Summary

After a daemon restart, recovered work-item pipelines had no original dispatch arguments. Cursor consequently lost its autonomous flags and fell back to buffered JSON output, hiding tool progress from the runner.

Restore the existing per-agent launch defaults when dispatch arguments are absent. Explicit dispatch options and role arguments retain their order.

Test plan

  • Regression failed before the fix with only the resume arguments present.
  • Work-item pipeline tests: 138 passed, 1 ignored.
  • Targeted all-features Clippy and formatting passed.
  • Focused code review approved; installed Cursor launch flags verified.
  • Linux and Windows CI: full workspace tests and documentation tests passed at 10f74a216a48de76d09ff71587a40d6fe4d7e125.
  • Full workspace/all-targets/all-features Clippy, formatting, Hakari, dependency/security scans and CodeQL passed.
  • CodeRabbit completed without blocking findings or unresolved threads.

The redundant local full-workspace run was stopped after both platform CI suites passed; its completed cases had no failures. Targeted local results above remain the local validation receipt.

Notes for reviewers

  • Existing shared argument construction is reused; no new dependencies or schema changes.
  • Original model, budget and timeout arguments remain unpersisted across daemon restarts, matching existing behavior.

📝 Walkthrough

The work-item send hook now selects default agent work arguments when no extra arguments are supplied. Explicit extra arguments remain in use when provided, and role arguments are appended. Tests cover recovered Cursor arguments and explicit options.

Changes: Work Launch Arguments

build_extra_args is now visible within the crate. The send hook uses work_item_launch_args, which selects defaults when extra arguments are empty and appends role arguments. Tests cover recovered Cursor flags and the order of explicit options. The boot-resume comment describes timeout defaults and the restoration of agent autonomy and streaming defaults.

Recovered launches receive default agent arguments when no extras are supplied, while explicit and role arguments remain supported. A hook-level regression test is recommended, but no concrete production failure is established.

Assert the arguments at the hook boundary.

The new tests call work_item_launch_args directly. real_agent_send_hook passes the resulting vector to run_headless_in_with_owner or run_headless_with_owner. A regression that bypasses the helper could omit Cursor defaults while both tests still pass. Add a focused hook-level test that captures and asserts the final launch arguments.
