chore: Anchored diff rendering: side-by-side window around a comment's line, selection highlighted - #962
Implementing the DiffDisplay port. Exploring the codebase and baz-cli reference.
Status
Done: Ported baz DiffDisplay into src/review/diff_display.rs (±3 view_window, hunk clipping, left/right AnchorSide / diffSide, plain + ANSI renderers with paired fg/bg, ansi_backgrounds_have_foreground guard). Wired DiffSide on ReviewThread, render_markdown_with_diff in review.rs, pr_diff_context_plain in dashboard/data.rs, and pr_approval_card_text optional diff block in notify.rs. Second commit: rustfmt on review_bots_tests.rs.
notify_pr_approval_gate still passes None for diff context (HTML hook exists; no PR patch fetch yet).
Dashboard exposes pr_diff_context_plain only; server/UI not calling it.
render_markdown_with_diff always uses AnchorSide::Right (no diffSide on ConsensusItem).
cargo clippy -p agentflare --lib -D warnings fails in agentflare-agent-registry (pre-existing; unrelated to this diff). The diff_display unit tests finished successfully: all 7 passed.
On branch task/388-anchored-diff-rendering-side-by-side-win you have anchored side-by-side diff rendering in src/review/diff_display.rs, integration hooks in review/notify/dashboard, and a small rustfmt commit so cargo fmt --check passes. Telegram approval cards still don’t load live diff text (notify_pr_approval_gate passes None for context)—that’s the main gap if you want full end-to-end approval UX.

Summary by CodeRabbit
New Features
Review summaries can include nearby pull-request diff excerpts alongside findings, with relevant lines highlighted on the correct side of the change.
Pull-request approval cards can show a diff excerpt when context is available.
The dashboard provides an endpoint for retrieving plain-text diff context for a file and line. Missing or unavailable context is indicated in the response.
Port baz DiffDisplay windowing and ANSI pairing so humans see the changed hunk at gates and in consensus output.

Reviews paused
It looks like this branch is under active development. To avoid overwhelming you with review comments due to an influx of new commits, CodeRabbit has automatically paused this review. You can configure this behavior by changing the reviews.auto_review.auto_pause_after_reviewed_commits setting.
The changes add side-aware diff rendering and make diff context available in consensus output, a dashboard endpoint, and PR approval cards. Review threads now include the diff side reported by GitHub.
Consensus output includes diff context in terminal and non-terminal modes; JSON output is unchanged. Adds a dashboard endpoint for plain-text context selected by path, line, and optional side.
Approval cards add an escaped “Changes” section when optional diff context is nonempty. The gate fetches the first change summary; failures produce no excerpt.

Summary
Thread side query and parsing src/github/review_threads.rs, src/supervisor/tests/review_bots_tests.rs
Adds DiffSide to review threads, requests diffSide, and parses and tests both sides.
getappz/agentflare#942: Adds the FileDiff and unified-diff parser types used by this PR’s diff renderer.
getappz/agentflare#955: Adds the PullRequestFile patch data consumed by this PR’s conversion and rendering functions.
Merge Risk: Moderate · up to 73f20
The new diff context can slow unrelated dashboard routes during slow GitHub responses, and long changed lines can cause an approval card to fail delivery. The renderer has smaller open edge cases. Address the blocking fetch and the card length bound before merging.

before push_ansi_span writes it, replacing C0 control characters other than tabs
so raw terminal control sequences cannot reach ANSI output. Preserve tabs and
the existing styling behavior.
- Around line 298-306: Use the anchor side’s line number consistently when
calculating the display window: update `line_in_window` to use
`anchor_line_number` for context rows, and update `clip_window_to_chunk` so its
hunk bounds do not also fold in `new_line` when the anchor is on the left.
Preserve right-side numbering for right-side anchors.
- Line 40: Update the end calculation in view_window to use saturating addition
for anchor.line_end and MAX_ADDED_VIEW_LINES, preventing overflow while
preserving the intended window boundary.

Bound the diff excerpt before sending the approval card.
first_change_summary renders complete source lines, and pr_approval_card_text inserts that output without a length limit. card_body does not truncate or split it. The card path bypasses the separate message splitter. Telegram can reject an oversized sendMessage request, and request_channel_approval only logs the error. Bound the rendered card while preserving valid HTML and the approval button.

Bound the diff excerpt used by pr_approval_card_text before it is inserted into
the approval card, since first_change_summary can produce unbounded source lines
and card_body does not truncate it. Truncate the content at a safe boundary
before wrapping it in HTML so the card remains valid and the approval button is
preserved.

…d the dashboard fetch
- view_window saturates at u32::MAX instead of overflowing on agent-supplied lines.
- ANSI spans replace C0 control characters (tab preserved) so untrusted patch
text cannot emit terminal escape sequences.
- clip_window_to_chunk and line_in_window use only the anchor side's numbering;
a left anchor no longer mixes old and new numbers when an earlier hunk shifts
the new-side numbering.
- The dashboard diff-context handler runs the GitHub client and list_files on
spawn_blocking instead of the async worker.
