Adds a lightweight smoke test (generates a PDF, verifies it's valid) to enable a real required status check.
Disables the inherited 24-job Ruby version matrix (ci.yml → ci.yml.disabled), since it tests upstream's current code, not the pinned commit this fork actually serves.
