Add more extensive unit tests to catch race conditions

Before upgrading to the latest version of go-ldap@v3.4.5, we should add more unit tests to catch potential race conditions.
Specifically, we should test the RequestTimeout parameter, since that seemed to be causing race conditions in v3.4.5
