I have a working Linux (X11) version in my fork, and I use it daily between Pop!_OS 22.04 and Windows 10. CONTRIBUTING.md says Linux is not planned, so before opening a pull request: would you consider it upstream, or would you rather it stayed in a fork?

What it does:

• Takes the Mac's place opposite the Windows app, in both directions. Pairs with the PC's code through the existing CPace exchange and speaks protocol v5 as it is.
• Edge push with resistance or a double-tapped key; keys, pointer, scroll and clipboard (text and images) cross both ways. The device you touch wins, as on the Mac and PC.
• A settings window and tray icon built from win_app's own theme, widgets and crossing effects, with start at login and a log file. Ships as a .deb and an AppImage.

What it changes outside linux_app/:

• The hello gains an optional platform field. Linux sends "linux"; a Mac sends nothing and stays a Mac, and older versions ignore the field, so no protocol version bump.
• The Windows app saves it and names the paired machine from one place (win_app/peer.py): "Mac" or "Linux computer" in every label, status line, tray item and accessible name. A Mac user sees exactly what they see today. A Linux peer always gets keys by position and never
  gets the notch arrival.
• protocol.py and receiver.py change identically in mac_app and win_app, so the shared-copy test still passes. The win_app suite (629 tests, 7 of them new) passes on Linux.

If you would take it, I would first shape it to the repo: its own byte-identical copies of the shared files instead of importing from win_app, split into whatever pull requests you prefer, and changed however you want. Not done yet: Wayland, and pairing Linux with a Mac.

I wrote it with the help of an AI coding assistant (Claude Code) and tested it on my own machines. I am happy to license it under GPL-3.0.
