Adding a Steam or Riot account no longer crashes the app.

The egui shell calls begin_setup from a job thread with no tokio runtime, so the detached setup launch (tokio::task::spawn_blocking) panicked with "there is no reactor running" (steam/setup.rs:63). Under Tauri the command ran inside its async runtime, which hid it.

what changed

  • setup launches start on a named std thread through spawn_setup_launch (platforms/mod.rs).
  • Steam and Riot setups use it; a failed spawn drops the Steam job with an error, or marks the Riot launch failed.

verified

  • a_setup_launch_runs_outside_a_tokio_runtime failed before the fix with the same panic, passes after.
  • cargo test --workspace and cargo clippy --workspace --all-targets -- -D warnings pass.
  • not verified: a real click on "add account", which stops and relaunches the local Steam client.

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • Bug Fixes
    • Improved account setup reliability by allowing setup launches to start independently of a Tokio runtime.
    • Setup now reports a clear error if it cannot start.

Walkthrough

Setup launches now run on a named standard thread instead of Tokio’s blocking pool. Riot and Steam handle thread-spawn failures in their setup paths.

Changes: Setup launch threading

Layer / File(s) Summary
Add the setup-launch thread helper
crates/accshift-core/src/platforms/mod.rs, crates/accshift-core/src/platforms/tests.rs
Adds a helper that starts a closure on a named standard thread. A test checks that the closure runs without a Tokio runtime.
Use the helper in platform setup
crates/accshift-core/src/platforms/riot/setup.rs, crates/accshift-core/src/platforms/steam/setup.rs
Riot records a failed launch state if spawning fails. Steam removes the setup job and returns a platform error if spawning fails.

Exercise a real setup caller.

a_setup_launch_runs_outside_a_tokio_runtime calls spawn_setup_launch directly. It does not call Steam or Riot setup. If either caller regresses to tokio::task::spawn_blocking, this test still exercises the unchanged helper and passes.

Add a caller-level test that invokes spawn_riot_setup_launch outside a Tokio runtime. This is the smallest correction because start_setup_profile calls that function at both production entry points. Use a deterministic AppCtx and client path, then assert that the caller returns without a panic and that the launch state is recorded.

Valid gap, fixed in b4c3803 another way. Calling spawn_riot_setup_launch in a test runs the real launch: prepare_clean_riot_launch quits and kills the local Riot client by name, and the Steam caller stops Steam. no_platform_code_spawns_on_the_tokio_blocking_pool instead fails when any file under src/platforms calls spawn_blocking(. With the old steam/setup.rs restored it fails and names that file; on this head, 650 core tests pass.

This change stops adding a Steam or Riot account from crashing when there is no tokio runtime running. It moves the detached setup launch off the tokio blocking pool and onto its own plain thread, with a clear error if that thread cannot start.
