Include Windows-only tests in the Windows selector
Add tests/windows/** to this path filter. A PR that changes only an existing Windows-only assertion or fixture, such as an expected value in tests/windows/windows-service-wrappers.test.ts, without adding one of the content markers leaves this filter false; the added-line scanner also returns false, and many such tests are skipped on the Linux shards via process.platform, so the PR receives no Windows validation and fails only in the later nightly run. The same selector should cover the repository's dedicated Windows test domain.

Bun 1.4.0 Windows fs copyFileSync read-only attribute source implementation CopyFileW
💡 Result:
In **Bun 1.4.0**, the Windows copy implementation is in `src/sys/copy_file.rs`. Its Windows branch calls `CopyFileW(source, destination, 0)`—the final `0` means it does **not** fail merely because the destination already exists. The source comment says no metadata is transferred; the call itself establishes that Bun delegates copying to Windows’ `CopyFileW`. ([fossies.org](https://fossies.org/linux/bun/src/sys/copy_file.rs?utm_source=openai))
The available source **doesn’t establish how a read-only destination is handled**—for example, whether Bun clears the attribute first. That behavior would depend on `CopyFileW` and Windows’ handling of the destination, not on an explicit read-only workaround shown in this source. The source covers the **1.4.0 release**, not necessarily later versions. ([fossies.org](https://fossies.org/linux/bun/src/sys/copy_file.rs?utm_source=openai))

Bun 1.4.0 node:fs chmodSync Windows read-only attribute implementation chmod Windows CopyFileW
💡 Result:
**No—`CopyFileW` is for copying files, not `chmodSync`.** Bun’s Windows copy implementation calls `CopyFileW` with `bFailIfExists = 0` (allowing the destination to be overwritten). That source establishes Bun’s copy path, not its chmod behavior. ([fossies.org](https://fossies.org/linux/bun/src/sys/copy_file.rs?utm_source=openai))
On Windows, chmod-style permission changes are generally limited to the file’s write/read-only state; Node’s documentation describes that limitation. ([nodejs.org](https://nodejs.org/download/release/v10.15.2/docs/api/fs.html?utm_source=openai)) I couldn’t verify from the available sources exactly how **Bun 1.4.0** implements `node:fs chmodSync` internally—so whether it toggles the Windows read-only attribute directly remains unresolved. Clear the read-only attribute from the sandbox copy.
On Windows, Bun 1.4.0’s copyFileSync(seed, owned) uses CopyFileW, which copies the source file’s attributes. A read-only seed therefore produces a read-only owned file. PowerShell may then fail to serialize cache updates and lose the warm-cache benefit. Clear the attribute on owned only, and add a test that verifies the copy is writable while the seed remains read-only.

… override in scope tests
… sensitive PRs The first run with the seed timed out seven of nine Windows shards, while a dev dispatch without it had one failure. Test sandboxes keep the runner's LOCALAPPDATA, so PowerShell 5.1 children already read the image's warm module-analysis cache; pinning PSModuleAnalysisCachePath to a seed that the prewarm step stops waiting on as soon as it is non-empty swapped that warm cache for a partial one, and every child re-analyzed modules. With the cause removed the shards no longer need to be advisory: a Windows-sensitive pull request now requires them the same way dispatch and the nightly schedule do.
The isolated settings children cold-import the management API graph. On Windows CI that takes 2-5 s, and the first child of a busy batch took over 10 s in run 37447563941, so the flat 10 s spawnSync bound killed a healthy child. Use watchdogMs like the other subprocess suites, and derive the per-test bound from it: spawnSync blocks the loop, so the test has to outlast the child it waits on. Local runs keep the old 10 s / 15 s values.
The contender case failed twice on Windows dev dispatches (37316384711, 37447563941) with "child event timeout after 45000ms; events=[]". The test finished at 55.6 s, which is only possible if that same child answered the cleanup "stop" command within seconds of the timeout; a wedged child would have held stop() for another 45 s. So the child was slow to reach "listening" while cold-importing the server graph on a busy shard, and then healthy. Give the listening waits twice the event budget and add one startup allowance to the per-test budget; every later wait is unchanged.

Use OWNER_LEASE_BUDGET_MS for the temp-crash test timeout.
On Windows, OWNER_STARTUP_WAIT_MS is 90 seconds, but this test has a 45-second outer timeout. The owner wait at line 542 and the successor wait at line 563 run sequentially, so the outer deadline can end the test before either startup wait reaches its intended deadline. Replace the fixed timeout with the existing derived lease budget.

Bun 1.4.0 test runner synchronous test callback duration check explicit test timeout spawnSync blocks and returns
💡 Result:
If you’re asking whether Bun’s **per-test timeout catches a synchronous test callback blocked in `spawnSync`**: **don’t assume it can interrupt the call.** `Bun.spawnSync` is explicitly blocking, while Bun documents the test timeout as a mechanism that throws to stop a test. That documentation does not establish that the timeout can fire while JavaScript is blocked inside a synchronous call. ([github.com](https://github.com/oven-sh/bun/blob/main/docs/runtime/child-process.mdx?utm_source=openai))
For a subprocess, set a **timeout on `spawnSync` itself**; Bun’s docs list a `timeout` option. The test’s own timeout is a separate safeguard, not proof that it can preempt a blocked synchronous callback. ([github.com](https://github.com/oven-sh/bun/blob/main/docs/runtime/child-process.mdx?utm_source=openai))
I found no version-specific source establishing this behavior for **Bun 1.4.0**. The docs I found are current and don’t identify a 1.4.0 implementation; the reported synchronous-wait timeout issue concerns **1.3.14**, so it does not confirm 1.4.0 behavior. (GitHub issue 37189 in oven-sh/bun (link omitted to avoid creating a cross-reference))

🌐 Web query:
Bun 1.4.0 source test runner explicit per-test timeout synchronous callback timeout after callback returns test timeout implementation
💡 Result:
In **Bun 1.4.0**, a test’s timeout is stored as a **deadline**, not enforced by interrupting its callback. When an entry starts, the runner sets its deadline to the current time plus the configured timeout; the execution loop checks that deadline when it resumes and marks the entry timed out if it has expired. ([fossies.org](https://fossies.org/linux/bun/src/runtime/test_runner/Execution.rs?utm_source=openai))
So a **synchronous callback that runs longer than its timeout can return first**: while it blocks the JavaScript thread, the runner can’t process the deadline. Once control returns to the runner, it can notice the expired deadline and report the timeout. That’s an inference from the deadline-and-check implementation, not a guarantee that every callback is forcibly stopped. ([fossies.org](https://fossies.org/linux/bun/src/runtime/test_runner/Execution.rs?utm_source=openai))
The 1.4.0 source is the Rust `src/runtime/test_runner/Execution.rs`; the nearby source entry explains that timeout handling also accounts for re-entry while a callback is still on the stack. ([fossies.org](https://fossies.org/linux/bun/src/runtime/test_runner/Execution.rs?utm_source=openai))

Give both symlink subprocess tests the shared test timeout.
In tests/config/settings-desktop-switch-apply.test.ts, the two symlink tests at lines 409 and 439 still use a 15-second test timeout. On non-Windows CI, their spawnSync child timeout is 30 seconds. If a child returns after 15 seconds but before 30 seconds, Bun 1.4.0 checks the expired test deadline when the callback returns and marks the test timed out. Use ISOLATED_TEST_TIMEOUT_MS, which gives these tests a 35-second bound on that CI lane.

Windows regressions kept landing on

changesjob now emitswindows: true when a PR touches Windows service, update, shim, intercept, ACL, process or harness paths, or when an addedsrc//tests/line names a Windows marker (win32,powershell,icacls,schtasks,Get-Acl,Get-CimInstance,process.platform,LOCALAPPDATA,USERPROFILE).scripts/ci/windows-sensitive-diff.shtreats the diff strictly as data (file + awk +grep -F), fails closed on invalid input, and selects Windows when the base parent cannot be read. Ordinary PRs still skip the nine shards. When they run, the aggregatecicheck requires them, the same as on dispatch and the nightly schedule.scheduleruns the fulllane=allmatrix (every scope forced on, so it is the complete matrix) against one resolveddevSHA, isolated in its own concurrency group. The native-main contender case timed out at 45 s waiting for a child's first event in two dev dispatches, yet finished at 55.6 s, so the same child answered cleanup's "stop" within seconds: slow cold start, not a wedge. Its "listening" waits now get twice the event budget. The Claude picker restart case had the same flat 10 s child bound next to an 8.5 s neighbour and failed at exactly 10 s three times; it now uses the watchdog too.cigate mirrors the new Windows conditions, and the ci-workflows tests pin them.An earlier revision also seeded a PowerShell module-analysis cache into every test sandbox and made the PR shards advisory. Its first CI run timed out seven of nine Windows shards, while a dev dispatch without the seed had one failure. Test sandboxes keep the runner's
LOCALAPPDATA, so PowerShell children already read the image's warm cache; the seed swapped it for a partial one. Both the seed and the advisory mode are removed.Implemented by lane B9 and finished by the coordinator; diagnosis in
