Investigation item 2 and 3 of the 2026-10-25 product brief.

  • Criterion 5 of the rerun (results-r2/) passes. The "171 expected blank lines" was a pro-rata estimate (26 blank rows x 1,301,174 / 197,430). The 26 blank rows all sit between source seconds 85 and 1,377 of the sample, and the replay's five phases (from results-r2/timeline.jsonl) passed over that stretch 3 + 0 + 1 + 0 + 3 times: 182 blank lines sent, so 1,301,174 - 182 = 1,300,992, exactly the lines returned. Every phase edge is at least 35 wall seconds from a blank row, so the count does not depend on timing. The two-arm runs agree (their scorer counted 156 = 6 x 26 blank lines sent, where pro-rata gives 141 and 135). New: rig/count-blank-sent.py.
  • Byte unit stated beside the rig: the limits count the UTF-8 size of the whole record the forwarder sends, not only the message (rate-object-*.js: this.utf8Size() with no argument measures fullText), and the run reads it from the utf8Size stamp.

…nt); state the byte unit

The 171 expected blank lines were a pro-rata estimate. The sample's 26 blank
rows sit in its first 23 minutes of source time and the replay passed over
them seven times, so 182 blank lines were sent and 1,301,174 - 182 =
1,300,992, the lines returned. rig/count-blank-sent.py counts them from the
replay and the timeline.
