[Feedback Requested] Regarding the Java version of YAVI

I am thinking it is time to upgrade the base Java version for YAVI. If you are watching this repository and use YAVI, please provide your feedback. I am considering the following three options:

• Upgrade to Java 17
• Upgrade to Java 21
• Keep Java 8

If there is no feedback, I plan to bump it up to 17.

Personally, I would follow the release cadence of Java LTS versions.
However, I'd be a little more conservative and follow one LTS behind:
The current LTS is 25, upgrade to 21. When JDK 29 is released, upgrade to 25 and so on.

Every time you do a JDK upgrade, make a new breaking version. The users that cannot follow to the new JDK, can use the old library version, while the rest can upgrade easily. Your library can evolve nicely with the newer language features and security updates.

Finally, my gut feeling (not backed by numbers):
The difficult upgrades are JDK 8 to JDK 11 and to a lesser extent 11 to 17.
Once a user upgrades to JDK 17, they can follow to the newer LTS version more easily.

I agree with @duponter, either following the latest LTS (in this case 25) or the previous LTS
