Lazy, chainable element reference. No queries execute until you call an action or assertion.

Locators are **strict**, like Playwright's: an action or single-element query on a locator that matches more than one element fails immediately with `strict mode violation: getByRole('button') resolved to 2 elements`, listing the matches. Narrow the locator, or pick one with `first()`, `last()`, `nth()` or `filter()`. `count()`, `all()` and `toHaveCount()` are not strict. A container and its own text child reporting the same label (an iOS button wrapping its text) count as one element.

**Actions** (all auto-wait for the element to be visible, enabled, and have stable bounds):

## Strict mode

Like Playwright, a locator used for an action (`tap`, `fill`, `check`, …) or a single-element query or assertion (`getText`, `isVisible`, `toBeVisible`, …) must resolve to exactly one element. When it matches several, the call fails at once — not after the timeout — with the locator and the matches spelled out:

```text
strict mode violation: getByRole('button') resolved to 2 elements:
1) Button "Submit" [submitBtn]
2) Button "Cancel" [cancelBtn]
Narrow the locator, or use .first(), .last(), .nth(i) or .filter().
```

`count()`, `all()`, `first()`, `last()`, `nth()` and `expect(...).toHaveCount()` are not strict. Native trees often report one control at two levels — an iOS `Button` and the `StaticText` inside it both carry the label — and such an ancestor chain counts as a single element, resolved to the outermost node.

## Accessible names

`getByRole('button', { name })` matches the element's own label, then its own text.

Apply ancestor-chain normalization to collection and positional selection.

The documentation states that an ancestor and its matching text child count as one element. count() and all() use raw queryAll results, and toHaveCount() delegates to count(). Positional methods also index raw parent results. These methods can therefore report or select both nodes instead of the collapsed outermost node.

Normalize matches with collapseAncestorChains in Locator.count() and
Locator.all(), and in positional selection where queryAll is called with
strategy.parent. Keep collection behavior otherwise unchanged so counts and
selected elements follow the documented ancestor-chain rule.

Include exact: false in locator descriptions.

If a caller uses getByText('Save', { exact: false }), a strict-mode or timeout error displays getByText('Save'). That describes a different query and hides why extra elements matched. Render both explicitly supplied values of exact.

Deduplicate the same node before checking ancestry.

If nested Cell nodes both contain one Button, getByType('Cell').getByRole('button') returns that same button once per parent. flattenNodes(outer.children) does not contain outer, so this helper retains both references and a single button causes a strict-mode violation. Treat identical references as one match.
