Summary

Each usage row in the tray panel now reads and draws like a CodexBar 0.70.0 Mac menu row. The backend sends a pace for every rate window, and the card draws the Mac bar with quota warning markers, a pace stripe and a pace line. This is PR 2 of the tray-card rework in W:/mac-parity/spec/tray-card-spec.md (section 6.2, item 2, and section 3.4). PR 1 (feat/mac-panel-chrome) owns the panel, header, footer and tray CSS tokens. This PR leaves them alone, so the panel stays dark until PR 1 lands.

What changes for users:

  • The title line holds the window name and its percent, as in "Session 58% left". The reset sits at the right end of the same line, as in "Resets in 2h 13m". The separate "N% used" line under the bar is gone.
  • New installs show "% left". A settings.json that already holds show_as_used keeps it (decision 7.2).
  • The bar is a 6 px rounded capsule. The fill uses the provider accent picked in Settings, and the standard bar blue otherwise.
  • Small cut-outs on the bar mark the Windows usage alert thresholds (decision 7.6). With the default alerts at 70% and 90% used, a "% left" bar has marks at 30% and 10%. Provider and per-window threshold overrides move the marks.
  • A pace line sits under the bar. It reads "14% in reserve · Lasts until reset", "12% in deficit · Runs out in 1d 21h" or "On pace". A session window says "Projected empty in 40m" instead of "Runs out". A green stripe (reserve) or a red stripe (deficit) on the bar marks where usage would be at an even pace.
  • Reset countdowns round minutes up, like the Mac. The Claude session now reads "Resets in 2h" where it read "Resets in 1h 59m". An absolute reset for the next day reads "Resets tomorrow, 9:24 AM".

What was removed and where it went

Removed Where it went
The "N% used" or "N% left" line under the bar The title line, as in "Session 58% left".
The reset text under the bar The right end of the title line. A long reset text wraps under the title, right-aligned, as on the Mac.
The reserve row ("12% in reserve" plus "Lasts until reset" or "Runs out in 2d 3h") The pace line under the bar. It also shows deficits, "On pace", and the session wording.
The reserve text inside the "On-pace budget" header The pace line. The header now reads only "On-pace budget". PR 3 retires the disclosure (decision 7.7).
The data-level bar colors (yellow at 25% left or less, orange at 5% or less, red when exhausted) The fill uses the provider accent or the standard bar blue. The threshold markers show the alert levels instead.
levelOf, getMetricPaceView and formatReserveDescription in MenuCardDetails.tsx lib/metricRowModel.ts (metricRowPresentation, metricResetText). The new components/UsageProgressBar.tsx draws the bar.
Fluent keys PanelReserveSuffix, PanelReserveLastsUntilReset, PanelReserveRunsOutInDaysHours and PanelReserveRunsOutInHours PaceOnPace, PaceInReserve, PaceInDeficit, PaceLastsUntilReset, PaceRunsOutIn, PaceRunsOutNow, PaceProjectedEmptyIn, PaceProjectedEmptyNow, UsageBarQuotaWarnings, UsageBarWorkDays, ResetTomorrowAt, ResetsInDaysMinutes and DurationDaysMinutes, translated in all 10 locales.
.menu-metric__reserve and the data-level fill rules in styles.css .menu-metric__head, .menu-metric__percent, .menu-metric__meta and the .usage-bar SVG rules. The --usage-bar-* tokens stay, because other rules still use them.
The tests "displays over-quota usage without overflowing the bar" and "keeps the reserve row when timing data is incomplete" "clamps over-quota usage to a full bar and 100% used" and the pace tests below. The backend only computes a reserve from a reset time, so a reserve without timing can't reach the card.

Decisions this PR implements

  • 7.2, "% left" for new installs. Settings::default() now sets show_as_used: false (rust/src/settings.rs). Every settings save has written show_as_used since the field was added in be956db (2026-01-16), because the field has no skip_serializing_if. So an existing settings.json keeps its value, and only a file without the key gets "% left". The same setting drives the tray icon text, the float bar, the account rows and the codexbar serve dashboard, so they also start in "left" on a new install. The 28 tray tests in tray_bridge.rs and tray_presentation_tests.rs that assert "used" text now set show_as_used: true themselves.
  • 7.6, markers from the Windows thresholds. The markers use the same thresholds as the usage alerts. Each row resolves high and critical separately, in the order <provider>:<window> override, then <provider> override, then the global setting. That is the order Settings::usage_thresholds uses in rust/src/settings/types.rs. The primary row reads the session window. The secondary and tertiary rows read weekly. Extra windows get no markers. A "% left" bar draws each mark at 100 minus the threshold. Marks at 0 or 100 and duplicates are dropped.

The per-window pace DTO

RateWindowSnapshot gains pace: Option<WindowPaceSnapshot> (commands/bridge/pace.rs, mirrored in types/bridge.ts). It holds stage, deltaPercent, expectedUsedPercent, actualUsedPercent, etaSeconds and willLastToReset. deltaPercent is actual minus expected, so a positive delta is a deficit and a negative one a reserve. from_fetch_result fills it for the primary, secondary, tertiary, model-specific and every extra window. It stays empty when the result is not pace_authoritative or the window is informational. A window without window_minutes falls back to 300 minutes on the primary lane and 10,080 minutes on the other lanes, as section 3.4 asks.

The card shows the pace only when it knows which wording fits:

  • Primary and secondary rows show it when windowMinutes is set. Up to 300 minutes reads as a session, and anything longer reads as weekly.
  • Tertiary and model-specific rows never show it. The Mac's Claude "Sonnet" row has no pace line either.
  • Extra windows show it only at exactly 300 or 10,080 minutes.
  • It hides when pace is off in Settings, at 100% used, and when expected usage is under 3%. A weekly window that runs out now still shows.
  • A rounded delta of 0 reads "On pace" and draws no stripe.

The four reserve_* fields stay. Section 3.4 says to remove them once the card stops reading them, and the card no longer does. But powertoys.rs serializes RateWindowSnapshot into the published \\.\pipe\WinCodexBar.Status payload, so removing them would break pipe readers. The pipe payload gains pace, which is additive.

Tests added

  • Rust, commands/bridge/pace.rs (8 tests). They pin the reserve and deficit signs, the ETA, no pace on an informational window, the 300-minute session fallback, the 10,080-minute fallback on the other lanes, the weekly pace when the primary is informational, no pace on any lane without pace_authoritative, and the camelCase field names.
  • Rust, settings/tests.rs. show_as_used_defaults_to_left_without_a_saved_value covers a missing file and a file without the key. show_as_used_keeps_a_saved_used_preference covers a saved true. The first failed before the default changed and passed after.
  • Vitest, lib/metricRowModel.test.ts (52 tests). They cover the countdown rounding, the absolute reset forms, the reset fallbacks, the percent labels, every pace text and hide rule, the threshold lookup order, the marker placement, the work-day ticks and the accessible value text.
  • Vitest, components/UsageProgressBar.test.tsx (8 tests). They cover the track and fill geometry, the 5 px marker cuts with 1 px stripes, the work-day ticks, the pace cut and its color by direction, and the progress bar role.
  • Vitest, MenuCard.test.tsx (8 new cases) and TrayPanel.test.tsx (1). They render the card and check the title line, the reserve and deficit stripes with their pace lines, the markers from global and provider thresholds in both views, the work-day ticks on the weekly bar only, and the markers at the notification thresholds through the tray panel.
  • Rust, locale/tests.rs. The translation checks for the tray panel now use the new pace keys.

Before and after images

Each sheet shows the Mac 0.70.0 menu, Windows before (main at 60d4ae3) and Windows after.

  • Sheets: W:/mac-parity/report/mac-usage-pace-bar/{Claude,Codex,OpenRouter,Copilot,Cursor,Vercel}.png
  • Raw captures: W:/mac-parity/win-runs/<Pack>@mac-usage-pace-bar/panel.png (after) and W:/mac-parity/win-runs/<Pack>/panel.png (before)
  • Mac shots: W:/mac-parity/shots/packs/<Pack>.png

The captures come from 9e50cfb. The last commit, c838ede, trims comments, renames four identifiers and removes informational-window checks that the row could never reach. It changes nothing on screen. The panel is dark because PR 1 changes the panel color. In the Claude capture, the panel frame ends before the content does, because win_run.py unclips the scroll container. The main capture shows the same.

What the sheets show:

  • Codex matches the Mac text word for word. Session reads "58% left", "Resets in 2h 13m" and "14% in reserve · Lasts until reset". Weekly reads "33% left", "Resets in 3d 4h" and "12% in deficit · Runs out in 1d 21h".
  • Claude's Session, Weekly, Sonnet weekly, Opus weekly and Daily Routines rows match the Mac text, except that Windows labels the first one "Session (5h)". By eye, the pace stripes sit where the Mac draws them, about 40% on Session and 50% on Weekly.
  • Vercel has no rate windows, so its card does not change.

Manual tray check for the coordinator

win_run.py shows the CSS in WebView2, but not the real tray at other display scales. Check these on the real tray with CUA:

  1. Each bar is a 6 px rounded capsule. The marker and pace cut-outs show the panel through them, with a thin stripe in the middle, and nothing draws outside the track.
  2. In the Codex pack, Session has a green stripe and Weekly a red one.
  3. A pace line wraps to at most two lines.
  4. A long reset text moves under the title and stays right-aligned. The OpenRouter "API key limit" row shows this. Check again at a larger Panel scale once PR 1 lands.
  5. At 100% and 150% display scale, the 1 px marker stripes stay visible.
  6. A profile without settings.json shows "% left" in the panel, the tray icon and the float bar. A settings.json with "show_as_used": true still shows "% used" after the upgrade.
  7. With the app theme on auto, Settings and the float bar stay dark while the panel is open.
  8. On an open panel, the reset countdown updates as time passes.
  9. UIA exposes each bar as a progress bar. Its value text names the markers, as in "63%. Quota warnings: 10%, 30%".

Gaps against the Mac shots

  • Copilot and Cursor show no pace line or stripe. The Mac shows one on both Copilot rows and on three Cursor rows. Both providers send windows without window_minutes (rust/src/providers/copilot/api.rs:495, rust/src/providers/cursor/api.rs:238, :242 and :281), and the card needs the length to choose the wording. A billing-period window length in those provider modules would fix it.
  • Cursor's third row arrives as the model-specific window, which uses the tertiary lane and never shows pace. The Mac shows pace on Cursor's "Third Party" row but not on Claude's "Sonnet" row, so one lane rule can't match both.
  • Extra windows show pace for any provider at exactly 300 or 10,080 minutes. The Mac shots cover only Claude's extra rows, so other providers are unchecked.
  • The bars are blue, and the Mac uses provider colors. PR 4 owns this (decision 7.5).
  • The markers sit at 10% and 30% left, and the Mac's sit at 20% and 50%. That is decision 7.6.
  • Row labels and row sets come from provider data, which this PR does not change. Claude shows "Session (5h)" and "Model-specific 78% left" where the Mac shows "Session" and "Sonnet 59% left", plus an "All models weekly" row the Mac lacks. Cursor reads "Plan" and "Model-specific" for "Total" and "Third Party". Copilot adds "AI credits" and a "Credits used 82% left" bar where the Mac has a CREDITS section. OpenRouter draws bar rows for Credits and for daily, weekly and monthly spend, and its reset slot holds text such as "Resets $31.58 remaining", as on main.
  • "On-pace budget" and "Usage details" still show. PR 3 retires them (decision 7.7).
  • The Mac's optional " · 1.5× headroom" suffix is not ported. Neither is the white stripe on a highlighted row, because Windows rows have no highlight state.
  • The Claude account rows still round the countdown down ("Resets in 1h 59m"), while the metric rows round it up ("Resets in 2h").

Follow-ups

  • The provider-level pace in bridge.rs still passes a 10,080-minute fallback for the primary window, where the primary lane now passes 300. They differ only for a primary window without window_minutes.
  • from_fetch_result computes the pace when a fetch completes (commands/providers.rs:1089). The delta and the ETA stay fixed until the next refresh, while the reset countdown keeps ticking. The old reserve row had the same limit.
  • weeklyProgressWorkDays has no Settings control, so the work-day ticks only appear when the value is set by hand. update_settings accepts 2 to 6, while the bar and the Mac accept 2 to 7.
  • PR 1 defines --mac-pace-punch and --mac-pace-stripe. The bar draws the same 6 px and 2 px sizes as SVG geometry and does not read them.
  • Open PR Simplify the Tauri shell crate and split its god files #796 (simplify/shell-crate) conflicts with this branch in 8 shell crate files. Most of this branch's hunks there are pace: None in test literals and the used-view opt-in in tray tests, and Simplify the Tauri shell crate and split its god files #796 moves those tests or switches them to ..Default::default(). Whichever lands second needs a rebase.

Affected areas

Tray panel metric rows, the show_as_used default (tray icon, float bar, account rows and the codexbar serve dashboard), Fluent strings in 10 locales, and the PowerToys status pipe payload (an added pace field).

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • New Features
    • Usage bars show usage pace, projected quota warnings, and weekly workday progress.
    • Metric rows display clearer reset timing and pace status, with localized labels across supported languages.
  • Updates
    • Usage percentages now default to showing remaining quota rather than quota used.
    • Usage bars clamp displayed usage at 100% when a quota is exceeded.

Decision 7.2 of the Mac card rework. Settings::default() now has show_as_used false, so a missing settings file or one without the key shows remaining quota. A saved settings.json always carries show_as_used, so existing users keep their choice. Tray tests that assert used-view numbers now opt into that view explicitly.
Every rate window in a provider snapshot now carries its own pace (stage, signed delta, expected and actual used percent, ETA, lasts-until-reset), behind the existing pace_authoritative gate. The session lane defaults to a 300-minute window and every other lane to 10080 minutes, matching the Mac UsagePaceText defaults. The bridge type mirrors it so the card can draw the pace tip and the pace meta line for each window.
The metric row's pace line and usage bar need their own strings. They are on pace, N% in reserve, N% in deficit, lasts until reset, runs out in, projected empty in, the bar's quota-warning and work-day names for screen readers, and the Mac's day-plus-minute and tomorrow reset forms. Each language takes its value from the Mac 0.70 Localizable.strings.
Each quota row now follows the Mac MetricRow. The percent follows the title ("Session 63% left") and the reset sits at the right end of the same line. It drops under the title when both do not fit.

The 6px bar fills in the provider accent. The high and critical notification thresholds punch quota warning markers into it, with per-provider overrides applied (decision 7.6). Weekly bars get work day ticks when weekly_progress_work_days is set. The expected pace shows as a green stripe for a reserve or a red one for a deficit.

A pace line under the bar replaces the separate reserve row. It reads like "12% in reserve · Lasts until reset" or "9% in deficit · Runs out in 2h 30m". The used-level bar colors are gone, and over-quota rows clamp to 100% as on the Mac.

The ftl-backed test translator moves into the shared locale harness for the new metric row model tests.
The metric row's pace line replaced the separate reserve row. Its four PanelReserve* strings and the .menu-metric__reserve rules have no readers left. The locale tests now check the pace line's own translations instead.

The reserve fields on RateWindowSnapshot stay. The PowerToys status pipe publishes RateWindowSnapshot as is, so dropping them would change that payload.
Drop comments that narrated the code or cited the Mac source. Rename
where a name now carries what the comment said: the pace window
fallbacks become SESSION_FALLBACK_MINUTES and WEEKLY_FALLBACK_MINUTES,
paceOnTop becomes paceDeficit so the bar reads it without inverting,
and the lane policy field becomes thresholdWindow.

MetricRow returns early for informational windows, so the row model's
own informational checks could not trigger. Remove them and their two
test cases.

Preserve expiry wording for non-informational metrics.

The reset-credits metric sets resetFormatMode to "expires", but the non-informational path calls metricResetText without that mode. Extend metricResetText to accept the mode, select the corresponding expiry or reset wording, and pass resetFormatMode from MenuCardDetails.tsx:413.

Fix the Ukrainian wording of the projected-empty strings.

The text reads "Projected empty at {}" and "Now projected empty". The wording is unclear and ungrammatical. Compare PaceRunsOutIn, which reads "Закінчується за {}".

Review comment at @rust/src/locale/uk-UA.ftl around lines 236 - 237:
Update PaceProjectedEmptyIn and PaceProjectedEmptyNow with clear, grammatical
Ukrainian wording that conveys the projected-empty timing and aligns with the
phrasing of PaceRunsOutIn; preserve the existing interpolation placeholder in
PaceProjectedEmptyIn.
