Summary

Adds a browser proof build for the React surfaces and a one-command runner for it, so UI checks can run in any Chromium browser without a Windows desktop.

  • Proof build (proof.html, src/proof/): runs the real App over mockIPC / mockWindows from @tauri-apps/api/mocks (already shipped with @tauri-apps/api, so no new dependency). Commands are answered from synthetic, bridge-typed fixtures with example.com identities. URL params: window (main, settings, flyout, floatbar), tab, fixture (default, two-codex-accounts, errors, empty), theme. pnpm dev:proof / pnpm build:proof (output in dist-proof/).
  • Production bundle unchanged: index.html → src/main.tsx never imports src/proof. isolation.test.ts guards this, and the production dist/ contains no mock code.
  • pnpm proof:check (scripts/proof-check.mjs, Node built-ins only): starts the proof server (or uses --url), launches Chrome, Edge or Chromium on its own profile (or attaches with --cdp), runs scripts/proof-scenarios.json, prints PASS/FAIL per scenario, and saves screenshots to .proof/screens/ (git-ignored). Steps: expectText, expectNoText, expectSelector, expectTheme, click (real CDP mouse events), expectCall (asserts a backend command and its args), screenshot. Every scenario also fails on console errors or warnings, uncaught exceptions, or unhandled backend commands. --headed shows the run in a visible window.
  • Mock drift guard: coverage.test.ts scans every invoke("...") in src/ and fails if a command has neither a fixture handler nor an entry in INERT_ACTIONS (user actions such as sign-ins, credential writes, and OS side effects that return null and are recorded for expectCall).
  • Docs: docs/WINDOWS_PROOF.md §5 covers the build, params, runner, and step types. AGENTS.md adds a "Browser proof" rule: webview-only changes (layout, copy, data and states, settings pages, provider siloing) may attach proof:check output and screenshots; tray, window chrome, theme behaviour under auto, the float bar window, blur-dismiss, and real provider data still need the CUA loop.

Scenarios included (9): tray panel default (plus a click into Claude's detail view), errors, empty; flyout; settings General dark (plus a click on the Menu tab) and light; Providers; Codex with two accounts (clicking Switch must call codex_account_switch with the personal account's id); float bar.

Found while building this

In the light theme the settings sidebar provider icons are forced white (filter: brightness(0) invert(1) in settings-layout.css has no light override), so they nearly disappear. The window buttons also render white there. Not fixed here; both need checking on the real app.

Commands run (Windows, apps/desktop-tauri)

  • pnpm exec tsc --noEmit -p .: pass
  • pnpm run lint: 0 errors (11 pre-existing warnings, none in src/proof)
  • pnpm run check:anti-slop: pass
  • pnpm test: 144 files, 1351 tests passed. Earlier full runs on a loaded machine each had one or two failures in TrayPanel.test.tsx, which is a pre-existing timing flake; that file passes alone.
  • pnpm run build and pnpm run build:proof: pass
  • pnpm proof:check against the dev server, headless: 9/9 PASS
  • pnpm proof:check -- --url <vite preview of dist-proof>: 9/9 PASS
  • pnpm proof:check -- --headed (Chrome 155): 9/9 PASS

UI proof

This PR adds proof tooling and does not change any desktop UI, so no CUA run was done. Screenshots from this build are "Chromium, mocked IPC" and are regenerated by pnpm proof:check.

No CHANGELOG entry (developer tooling only).

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • Tests
    • Added browser-based checks for desktop screens, including settings, provider and account states, tray and flyout views, and light and dark themes. Checks can run in supported Chromium-based browsers, attach to an existing browser session, capture screenshots, and flag unexpected interface or browser errors.
  • Documentation
    • Added instructions for running browser checks, selecting scenarios, and interpreting results. Clarified when browser-based evidence is sufficient and when additional desktop validation is still needed.

Full details: No Unapproved Dependencies

Explanation

The PR changes only scripts in apps/desktop-tauri/package.json; it does not add or modify dependency fields or a packageManager pin. The authoritative diff contains no changed Cargo.toml, npm/yarn lockfile, or pnpm lockfile. The description also states that no new dependency is required.

Full details: Ui Changes Include Windows Proof

Explanation

PASS. The PR adds visible browser-proof rendering under apps/desktop-tauri/src/proof/ (including main.tsx and the real App) and a proof entry page. The description includes a UI proof note and identifies the screenshots as “Chromium, mocked IPC.” It also reports build:proof and proof:check runs on Windows.

Full details: Provider Data Stays Siloed

Explanation

The prior siloing violation remains. The PR adds LOCAL_SPEND in shared apps/desktop-tauri/src/proof/fixtures/bridgeData.ts with provider-specific codex and claude entries (lines 18-22). hasLocalSpend branches on providerId in LOCAL_SPEND (lines 126-127), and the result controls providerChartData and usageSpendSummary (lines 135 and 202-204). router.ts sends these results through provider chart, local usage, and spend-summary commands (lines 232-237). This is cross-provider branching on specific provider IDs outside the permitted Rust provider modules.

Resolution

Remove LOCAL_SPEND and the providerId in LOCAL_SPEND branch from shared bridgeData.ts. Supply spend fixtures through generic scenario/provider-owned data without provider-ID matching. Keep provider and account identity data sourced only from the matching provider or account.

Full details: Secrets Handled Safely

Explanation

The prior secret-leak failure remains unresolved in the new runner. apps/desktop-tauri/scripts/proof-check.mjs:214-219 puts a caller-supplied CDP URL directly into an error, and fail() prints it with console.error; a URL containing token, cookie, API-key, or OAuth data can therefore reach logs. Lines 264-269 also store raw browser console arguments and exception descriptions, which runScenario prints at lines 385-386 and 416-418. Evaluation errors at lines 278-281 and CDP errors are likewise printed without redaction. The repository has SecretRedactor rules, but the changed runner does not use them, and no proof-runner regression tests cover these paths. The PR adds no credential-file deletion or keyring overwrite.

Resolution

Add a runner-side sanitizer that follows SecretRedactor rules. Apply it before storing or printing CDP URLs, CDP errors, browser console arguments, exception descriptions, evaluation errors, setup errors, and scenario diagnostics. Add regression tests with query, user-info, path, console, and exception secrets, and assert that runner output contains none of the secret values.

🟡 Minor · Move CDP setup inside the cleanup scope. · proof-check.mjs:392-404

apps/desktop-tauri/scripts/proof-check.mjs:392-404
🩺 Stability & Availability | 🟡 Minor | ⚡ Quick win

Move CDP setup inside the cleanup scope.

When startProofServer() and launchBrowser() succeed, a rejection from Cdp.connect, target setup, or page setup occurs before the current try/finally. main().catch(...) exits without killing the launched browser, so a failed run can leave the browser process and its profile alive. This can block later runs that reuse the profile.

🩺 Stability & Availability | 🟡 Minor | ⚡ Quick win

Handle proof-server spawn errors as setup failures.

When spawn() cannot create the local Vite process, its child emits an error event. startProofServer() does not handle that event, so the runner can terminate through Node's unhandled child-process error path instead of exiting through fail(2, ...).

Suggested fix

When --cdp runs against a browser on another host, the runner starts the proof server on 127.0.0.1:1430 unless --url is provided. The browser resolves that loopback address on its own host, so it cannot reach the runner's server. Document the remote workflow with both options.

@coderabbitai The three outside-diff findings from the review on 561aa1c are fixed in c5e7b82:

  • CDP setup outside cleanup: connect, target creation, attach, and page setup now run inside the try. finally closes the target only if it exists, kills the browser when CDP never connected or Browser.close fails, and always stops the proof server. Verified: --cdp ws://127.0.0.1:9/... exits 2 and leaves nothing listening on port 1430.
  • Proof-server spawn errors: startProofServer() handles the child's error event through fail(2, ...).
  • Remote browser docs: WINDOWS_PROOF.md now separates --cdp for a browser on this host from --cdp <ws-url> --url <base> for a remote browser, and explains why: the default server binds to 127.0.0.1.

The normal run still passes 9/9, and oxlint is clean.

- Line 228: Update the remote CDP documentation beside the `--cdp` workflow to
explain that CDP has no authentication: keep the endpoint bound to loopback and
access it through an SSH tunnel or authenticated bridge. Recommend attaching
only to a dedicated browser profile without sensitive session data, and clarify
that `--cdp` does not apply `.proof/browser-profile` because it attaches to an
existing browser.

@Finesssee, thanks for the update. Code inspection confirms all three fixes:

  • CDP connection, target creation, attachment, and page setup run inside try/finally. Cleanup guards the target close and includes the browser-kill fallback.
  • startProofServer() routes the child’s error event through fail(2, ...).
  • docs/WINDOWS_PROOF.md distinguishes same-host and remote-browser use and explains the 127.0.0.1 restriction.

These three findings are addressed. I did not rerun the scenarios or oxlint; those results are from your report.

Learning: In apps/desktop-tauri/scripts/proof-check.mjs, browser launch handling must cover both synchronous exceptions from Node.js spawn() and asynchronous child-process error events. On Windows, an existing file that cannot execute can cause spawn() to throw EFTYPE synchronously.

@coderabbitai Both failing pre-merge checks are addressed:

  • Provider data stays siloed (3264448): the shared LOCAL_SPEND map and the providerId in LOCAL_SPEND branch are gone from bridgeData.ts. Spend fixtures are now scenario-owned data (ProofScenario.localSpend). The shared builders look them up by providerId the same way they already look up scenario.providers, so there is no provider-specific matching. The provider-specific values sit next to the other per-provider fixtures in scenarios.ts. Spend still only appears for enabled providers.
  • Secrets handled safely (e9e536c): proof-check.mjs now has a redact() that mirrors the SecretRedactor patterns in rust/src/core/redactor.rs (bearer, cookie headers, token query parameters, JSON and key=value secrets, known key prefixes), plus URL userinfo. It covers both output paths: fail() (setup errors, including the CDP URL) and the per-scenario FAIL line (console errors, exceptions, evaluation errors). Verified: --cdp "ws://user:pw@127.0.0.1:9/...?token=abc123" prints ws://[REDACTED]@127.0.0.1:9/...?token=[REDACTED].

Checks run: proof Vitest 28/28, tsc 0 errors, oxlint 0, proof:check 9/9.

@Finesssee, code inspection confirms both fixes:

  • Provider data stays siloed: bridgeData.ts reads ProofScenario.localSpend by providerId. Provider-specific spend values reside in scenarios.ts. The lookup excludes disabled providers.
  • Secrets handled safely: proof-check.mjs applies redact() in both fail() and the per-scenario FAIL output. The patterns include URL userinfo redaction.

Both findings are addressed. I did not rerun the checks; the passing results are from your report.
