Problem and user impact

Contributors currently have to assemble PostgreSQL, Temporal, secrets, paths and the CLI host to run the app from source. npm run dev:stack starts an isolated source stack and prints its URL and one-time owner setup token. npm run dev:stack -- down stops it; npm run dev:stack -- reset removes its owned resources.

Change

Starts the API, Vite web app, worker and CLI host from the checkout, with migrations and Docker image digests read from the canonical Compose template. Each instance has private state, fresh secrets, separate provider homes, configurable loopback ports, verified process identities and labeled resources. The OpenCode version is read from the Dockerfile and installed beneath the state directory.

API edits restart the API, web edits use Vite HMR, and shared/worker edits rebuild their dependency chain before replacement. Readiness probes belong to their replacement generation. Cleanup verifies ownership, preserves independent resources and retains recovery state after an unsuccessful removal. The guide, platform notes and changelog describe setup, ports, troubleshooting, stop and reset.

The branch incorporates upstream through adb96ac77531649bd335078aacaa0318ce1d20a2. Git metadata operations sharing the same canonical common directory are coordinated across service instances and path aliases; unrelated repositories and later module linking remain concurrent. Regressions preserve original errors and release the queue after failure. The integration also cancels a notice timer on unmount, corrects two deterministic test-fixture assumptions, and installs the Linux media prerequisite needed by the unchanged full test suite.

Verification

Exact runtime source: b0ce62fedcc3e7d4731d98e1c7268b84a135dcfd.

I reviewed the relevant follow-up source and regression checks, personally started workflow attempt 2, and inspected the completed Linux and Mac job results.

Completed personal rerun Results
Ubuntu job 118064319663 Full stock check/tests/build/hygiene: 8,928 passed, 0 failed, 15 existing API skips; all 12 application + 8 lifecycle checks.
Intel-Mac job 118064319470 Full stock check/build/hygiene; 49 private API + 7 CLI-host + 110 dev-stack + 7 architecture tests, 0 failures or skips in those selected suites; all 12 application + 8 lifecycle checks.

The Linux total comes from the full-root test step only: 8,519 Vitest passes plus 409 TAP passes. Earlier focused suites are excluded. Mac has scoped native regression coverage; its Linux-only full-root test step is intentionally skipped. Both final guards verified the exact runtime HEAD and clean tracked/untracked source.

Original redacted output, browser/terminal screenshots and HTTP/API/WS receipts: Linux artifact 12188755132, Mac artifact 12190230995. Application checks cover normal owner setup and token-reuse rejection, real OpenCode terminal keyboard interaction, browser HMR, API/shared-code reload and exact source restoration. Lifecycle checks cover stop/reset, failure recovery and preservation of independent resources.

Coverage limits: native Windows/WSL2 execution, normal Mac keychain/provider authentication, model inference and desktop packaging are untested. The fresh isolated Mac CI browser uses a test keychain and synthetic data. Optional companion/browser services, host-root features and other provider CLIs remain outside the requested source-stack scope. The documented bounded PTY-helper mode repair preserves the helper bytes. The initial Mac menu/filter has a minor ANSI fragment; the reopened menu is clear. Colima cleanup passed with a disk-unlock warning; residual VM disk files were not separately inventoried. The metadata queue is process-local and does not coordinate arbitrary external Git processes.

  • Relevant automated tests pass on the runtime source identified above.
  • Personal source review, own rerun and completed results inspection are recorded.
  • Platform coverage, skips and limitations are listed.
  • Real browser/network evidence is supplied through screenshots and HTTP/API/WS receipts.
  • No operator credentials, tokens, personal memory, customer data, private owner paths or private operator runtime state are included.
  • Documentation and changelog are updated for the contributor command.
  • Security, migration, resource and rollback effects are described: private 0700 state/0600 secrets, loopback ports, ownership-checked cleanup and retained recovery data; installed data is not migrated. down retains data; reset removes owned state.

Closes #65.

Preferred payout is PayPal; I can share the receiving details privately. Wise is also available privately.

📝 Walkthrough

Adds npm run dev:stack to start and manage an isolated SpaceApp stack from source. The changes add instance-specific API storage, service reloads, capability and lifecycle proofs, contributor documentation, tests, and hosted Linux and macOS validation. They also serialize Git worktree metadata operations and update web notice timer cleanup.

Changes: Source Development Stack

Layer / File(s) Summary
Instance-specific API storage
apps/api/src/instance-storage.ts, apps/api/src/{app,auth,auth-routes,cli-agent-files,live-routes,plugins-service,space-control}.ts, apps/api/tests/dev-*.test.ts, apps/api/tests/instance-storage.test.ts, apps/web/vite.config.ts
API storage and OAuth secret paths now resolve by instance. Development paths must remain within a private install root. Development DOCX normalization requires an explicit direct command, and Vite proxy targets can use a configured API origin.
Private state and owned-resource controls
scripts/dev-stack/{state,resources,processes,readiness}.mjs, scripts/tests/dev-stack.test.mjs
Adds private-state and ownership validation, Docker port and resource checks, process identity and shutdown controls, and readiness tracking. Tests cover these controls and failure cases.
Stack lifecycle and source reload
scripts/dev-stack.mjs, scripts/dev-stack/{supervisor,source-build,reload-debounce,reload-proof-channel,acceptance-restoration}.mjs, package.json, .gitignore, CHANGELOG.md, CONTRIBUTING.md
Adds up, down, reset, and status commands, service startup and shutdown, source rebuild and reload handling, and reload proof mechanisms. Adds package scripts, ignores local stack state, and documents setup and operation.
Runtime, PTY, and terminal proofs
scripts/dev-stack/{opencode-runtime,opencode-wrapper,browser-proof,pty-capability,terminal-proof,capability-proof}.mjs, packages/cli-host/src/node-pty-spawn.ts, packages/cli-host/tests/node-pty-spawn.test.ts, scripts/tests/dev-stack.test.mjs
Adds pinned OpenCode verification, browser and PTY capability checks, and terminal session and geometry proofs. The CLI host selects the platform-specific stty executable.
Acceptance proofs and hosted validation
scripts/dev-stack/{acceptance,lifecycle-proof}.mjs, .github/workflows/dev-stack.yml, scripts/public-export.mjs, scripts/tests/{dev-stack,public-credential-install,public-package-metadata,public-suite}.test.mjs, docs/development-stack.md
Adds real-stack acceptance and lifecycle checks with proof artifacts and cleanup. Adds hosted Linux and macOS checks, registers the development-stack documentation, scripts, and tests in public exports, and adds supporting API regressions.

Git Worktree Metadata Serialization

Layer / File(s) Summary
Common-directory metadata queue
apps/api/src/worktrees/worktree-service.ts, apps/api/tests/room-pane-worktrees.test.ts
Serializes worktree metadata operations by real Git common directory. Tests cover concurrent creation and listing across aliases, failed additions, and creation while another operation links modules.

Web Notice and Regression Test Updates

Layer / File(s) Summary
Live-debug notice timer cleanup
apps/web/src/features/app-notices/useAppNotices.ts, apps/web/tests/workspace-overlays-controllers.test.tsx
Effect cleanup clears the active live-debug toast timer. Tests cover unmount cleanup and the full dismissal delay after replacing a toast.
Regression test assertions
apps/api/tests/agent-pane.test.ts, apps/api/tests/room-watchdog.test.ts, scripts/tests/public-credential-install.test.mjs
Checks sensitive fields against raw response data, sets watchdog event time relative to the latest setup event, and strips whitespace from the credential fixture’s byte count.

Full details: Linked Issues check

Explanation

Issue #65 is an active direct link. The reviewed head adds npm run dev:stack, ordered Docker, migration, API, Vite, worker, and CLI-host startup, printed URL and setup token, down, and ownership-checked reset. The implementation and tests cover private state and secrets, canonical image pins, loopback and configurable ports, reload behavior, OpenCode installation, /readyz, owner setup, CLI-pane operation, failure recovery, isolation, and cleanup. The workflow and documentation provide Linux and macOS coverage, prerequisites, commands, ports, troubleshooting, and platform limits. The reported Windows and provider-inference limits do not invalidate the coding requirements because the PR provides the requested WSL2 notes and the issue does not require provider inference.

Full details: Out of Scope Changes check

Explanation

The changes remain within issue #65. The supervisor, state, resource, reload, process, OpenCode, browser, terminal, and PTY modules implement or verify the source stack. API storage and diagnostic changes provide per-instance isolation. Worktree serialization supports concurrent CLI-pane setup. Fixture, timer, and test-suite changes make the stack validation deterministic. Documentation, workflow, changelog, and public-test registration support the feature. The changes do not add the excluded browser service, companion services, root-only features, published-image changes, launcher changes, or non-OpenCode provider CLIs.

Full details: Docstring Coverage

Explanation

Docstring coverage is 20.00% which is insufficient. The required threshold is 80.00%. Docstring coverage is scoped to functions touched by this diff. Analyzed 110 functions across 45 files. (2 skipped: 2 unsupported.)

Resolution

Write docstrings for the functions missing them to satisfy the coverage threshold.

Declare @xterm/headless in the root package.

terminal-proof.mjs is used by the root test suite but the root manifest does not declare @xterm/headless. It is declared only by @space/api, so the root scripts rely on npm hoisting it. A workspace dependency layout change can cause ERR_MODULE_NOT_FOUND.

I reproduced and corrected the reload-priority and pre-Compose cleanup cases, along with the storage-root, DOCX error and incident-log findings. The new regressions fail against the previous implementation and pass with the corrections locally.

Fresh Linux and Intel Mac validation of the corrected revision is running here. It includes the full project check/build, Linux test suite, Mac regressions and real application/lifecycle checks. I’ll update this PR once the new runs and review are complete.

Retain isolated development storage imports together with the current capture types, and keep the Unreleased development notes above the current 1.1.6 release.
Serialize owned worktree metadata operations by the canonical Git common directory while allowing unrelated repositories and post-add setup to proceed independently. Preserve typed failures and add deterministic concurrency regressions. Supply ffmpeg for the hosted Linux attachment fixture.
Inspect the raw browser-session response for synthetic secret values, private paths and private keys while permitting opaque public pane IDs. Give the manually recorded watchdog event a timestamp strictly after setup so latest-event assertions follow the existing timestamp/id ordering.
