Closes #65

Summary

Adds an isolated npm run dev:stack workflow for contributors to run the complete SpaceApp stack from a fresh source checkout without rebuilding the published application images.

The implementation:

  • derives the digest-pinned PostgreSQL/pgvector and Temporal images from packages/run-spaceapp/templates/compose.yml;
  • derives the pinned opencode-ai version from Dockerfile and installs it only under .dev-stack/;
  • creates per-checkout secrets and state, with secret files mode 0600;
  • binds API, Vite, PostgreSQL, and Temporal to loopback-only dev ports that do not collide with 4910/4911;
  • builds source workspaces before migrations on a fresh checkout, then starts the CLI host, worker, API under tsx watch, and Vite from source;
  • keeps SPACE_DEV_LOGIN=false and verifies normal owner setup;
  • supports status, rebuild, down, and reset; reset fails closed if owned Docker resources cannot be removed;
  • fails the supervisor if a required child process exits unexpectedly;
  • adds a real Ubuntu CI proof covering /readyz, owner setup over HTTP, the Getting Started room, a from-source OpenCode CLI pane, reset, and post-reset process/container/volume cleanup;
  • documents Linux, macOS Docker Desktop/Colima, and Windows 11 WSL2 contributor paths and troubleshooting in CONTRIBUTING.md.

Review notes

This PR is open for maintainer review. The current-head validation and the earlier integrated baseline are listed separately below, together with the remaining non-green checks and platform limits.

Existing application changes are scoped to Vite's configurable development API proxy and source-instance routing of canonical memory/CLI bootstrap to the dev-owned state root. Installed defaults are preserved; no release installer or published image changes are intended.

Current integration — 2026-10-19 JST

Current PR HEAD: 30903c6c6daaec266f181407e6ad3bffdc829406, tree e7178915377cd7a82a4afd9e99b7b0276658d2ad.

This merges the actual upstream main ref adb96ac77531649bd335078aacaa0318ce1d20a2 into 57fc285 without conflicts. Direct ref verification and GitHub comparison confirm 0 commits behind that main. The earlier PR base metadata still showed 14117daa before this integration; it was not sufficient evidence of the live branch.

Upstream commit ba7f46f had already fixed the Nous PNG fixture and design-run timestamp-ordering assertion. Those changes, the public-export updates, and release acceptance files are preserved exactly. The original fixture produced a 4×2 PNG before the application read it; this integration uses upstream's fixed 4×3 bytes and does not claim a newly authored product dimension fix.

Targeted validation on this new tree: Node 22.23.3 and FFmpeg 6.1.1, npm test -w @space/api -- tests/nous-attachments.test.ts tests/design-run.test.ts: 2 files, 9 tests passed. The three dev-stack command-lifecycle implementation/test files, including executable mode on dev-stack.mjs, are byte-identical to the already tested 57fc285 below.

Fresh hosted source-stack validation on this integrated tree is complete: Linux lifecycle PASS, including 65/65 unit/probe tests and the real source-stack acceptance workflow; macOS/Colima lifecycle PASS, with 60 tests passed and one Linux-specific pidfd test skipped. Both ran merge 1b77eb96c39b2c6c4d87dc4e31ddc8113e29ab52, whose entire tree exactly equals this published head's e7178915.

Security now passes Source/dependencies/SBOM, CodeQL, and all three image scans; the upstream Nous fix is no longer blocking the public test suite. The workflow remains non-green only because GitHub's dependency-review API returns 403 in the fork context; this is not a vulnerability verdict or proof of the graph's actual setting. The container matrix is complete: 6/6 jobs PASS, covering core, browser, and cli on both linux-amd64 and linux-arm64.

The launcher matrix passes Linux/macOS and still fails the unchanged Windows launcher. A separate launcher draft has now passed its four-platform matrix: Windows Node 22/24 each passed 184 tests with two existing POSIX-fixture skips, and Linux/macOS each passed 186 tests with no skips. It is not part of this PR, because issue #65 excludes changing run-spaceapp behavior; its upstream submission remains separate and subject to that repository's contribution/security process. These results do not turn this PR's unchanged Windows checks green. Sanitized CI stops at Verify export provenance. The exact job reports 13 manifest-covered files changed by this PR. All 13 match the original manifest on upstream adb96ac; 10 were sanitized in that export, which explains the 368-to-358 count difference. The manifest, verifier, export producer, and CI workflow are unchanged. This is the explicit outside-PR exception documented in issue #65 Terms. The job's subsequent candidate generation, tests, typecheck, build, and pack steps were skipped, so none is reported as passing from that job. Maintainers can incorporate accepted changes through their formal source/export process. New-head upstream source-stack actions remain action_required pending maintainer approval. These fork results do not claim upstream CI execution or manual WSL2 validation.

Process-lifecycle validation — recorded head 57fc285

Tested lifecycle HEAD: 57fc285f34487a83442bf83b32461d4a72888869.

The latest red-team fix tracks database migrations and pinned OpenCode installation with the same owned-process lifecycle as builds and services. Previously, down returned success while npm and its descendants survived during either startup stage. The new real-process regression checks leader/descendant cleanup, reset, and preservation of an unrelated process.

New local validation: on Node 22.23.3, both new cases fail on the unmodified 73237e2 baseline; the fixed complete test:dev-stack suite passes 65/65, with no failures or skips.

New hosted validation on this head: Linux source-stack lifecycle PASS, including all 65 unit/probe tests, readyz, normal owner setup/login, a working OpenCode pane, a shared-package rebuild, API watch, real browser DOM hot reload, worker failure and normal restart, and owned process/container/volume cleanup. The executed fork PR merge d459c6370f69b7af9f240975a89755fc3ace1bb9 has the exact same complete tree (cb4629f0c02340cac44c40587bd00eb740458b6d) as this published head.

The macOS/Colima full source-stack lifecycle is also PASS, including the new unit regressions, real readiness, normal owner setup, OpenCode pane, and successful down/reset cleanup. Both Linux and macOS completed on this published tree. WSL2 manual validation remains outstanding. Other checks completed on that recorded head: CodeQL and all three image scans PASS; the Security workflow overall is FAIL, with the same Nous attachment assertion (height expected 3, received 2) at tests/nous-attachments.test.ts:85 seen on unmodified upstream 14117daa, plus the fork dependency-review API failure. The launcher matrix passes Linux/macOS and fails the same four Windows permission/ACL tests on Node 22/24. Sanitized CI stops at Verify export provenance. These inherited failures remain non-green checks and are not silently waived.

Prior integrated baseline — 73237e2

Previous tested HEAD: 73237e256b8cc4f999f927888a346972259f8a61 (71 commits, merge commit of former PR head c0bafc5 plus upstream main at 14117daa). A fork-only integration candidate PR #2 was reviewed before promotion. GitHub now reports mergeable=true / mergeable_state=unstable rather than the prior dirty conflict. The 24-file PR diff against the then-recorded upstream base preserves our original source-stack changes and the upstream CLI/media/progress improvements.

Completed checks for that previous baseline:

  • Source-stack lifecycle: Linux PASS and macOS/Colima PASS. Linux Node tests 62/62 (including stalled HTTP response headers/body deadline and reserved PostgreSQL/Temporal port regressions). Both real source-stack jobs exercised readyz, owner setup/login, starter room, OpenCode CLI pane and owned cleanup; Linux further exercised web HMR, API watch restart, workspace rebuild, worker-failure fail-fast and interrupted source restore.
  • Six-job container matrix: 6/6 PASS (browser/core/cli on linux-amd64 and linux-arm64).
  • Security: CodeQL, source-detection, and all three image-scanning jobs PASS. Overall security workflow fails, as noted below.
  • Launcher platform matrix: Linux and macOS PASS; Windows Node 22 and Node 24 each fail four launcher tests (POSIX permission/ACL assumptions). The same four failures also occur on unmodified upstream main at 14117daa, independently verified via upstream platform matrix.
  • The Source, dependencies, and SBOM security job failed one upstream Nous attachments test (tests/nous-attachments.test.ts). The identical test and assertion also failed on unmodified upstream 14117daa: upstream Security 39188999463. It is not claimed as green.
  • The fork dependency-review check fails at GitHub's dependency compare API before it can produce a vulnerability verdict. The standalone sanitized public CI stops at the outside-PR Verify export provenance gate, the sole explicit check exception in issue #65.
  • After pushing this integration commit onto feat(dev): run the full SpaceApp stack from source #181, fresh fork checks may rerun and the upstream workflow runs still show action_required pending maintainer approval. No such rerun is described as passing until completed.

GitHub's dependency graph documentation includes forks, while its dependency-review compare REST documentation separately lists use against a fork as a 403 condition. Turning on a graph or submitting snapshots is therefore not a demonstrated fix for this check. The supported next step is the existing check in the eligible upstream PR context after maintainer workflow approval. No scanning policy or token permissions were weakened.

Acceptance limits: Linux/macOS lifecycle evidence does not establish manual WSL2 validation or manual visual OpenCode interaction. The current integration and non-green checks are listed above. The Nous fixture failure is addressed by the upstream fix now integrated; Windows launcher and fork capability/provenance checks retain their actual status. Maintainer review and issue #65's acceptance policy still apply. AI assistance disclosed; first-merged selection and the $450 payout are not presumed.

Explanation

Issue #65 is directly linked and has coding requirements. The supplied PR evidence shows npm run dev:stack starts digest-pinned PostgreSQL/pgvector and Temporal, builds source workspaces, runs migrations, and starts the source CLI host, worker, API watch process, and Vite server. It provides isolated state and Compose resources, loopback ports, mode-0600 secrets, normal owner setup, OpenCode installation in state, lifecycle commands, readiness checks, fail-fast supervision, and owned-resource cleanup. The Linux workflow covers readiness, HTTP owner setup, the Getting Started OpenCode pane, rebuild and hot-reload probes, worker failure, restart, and cleanup. The Linux and macOS lifecycle runs provide the requested platform evidence alternative to WSL2. CONTRIBUTING.md documents prerequisites, commands, ports, troubleshooting, macOS, and WSL2 paths. The Vite proxy and memory-path changes support configurable source-checkout operation.

Full details: Out of Scope Changes check

Explanation

The changes stay within issue #65. The Vite proxy change supports isolated API ports. The memory-directory, bootstrap, worker, and CLI environment changes keep source-checkout memory and OpenCode panes in the isolated development state. The tests and acceptance probes verify these behaviors. No change to published images, the run-spaceapp launcher, the browser host, root-only features, or non-OpenCode provider CLIs is shown.

For this bounty’s personal-check requirement, would personally running and checking the documented end-to-end flows, together with reviewing the change summary and test evidence, be sufficient? Or is a manual source-code review also required?

Use the installed directory for this test’s filename check.

If SPACE_MEMORY_ROOT contains space_memory.md while /opt/spaceapp/docs does not, usesLegacyMemoryFiles() returns the configured root’s convention. resolveCanonicalSpaceMemoryPaths({}) still resolves paths under /opt/spaceapp/docs, so this test fails under that valid environment. Pass SPACE_MEMORY_DIRECTORY to usesLegacyMemoryFiles() to match the resolver input.

Resolve both source paths from options.env.

If a caller passes options.env.SPACE_MEMORY_ROOT without changing process.env, this line scans the process-default directory. Line 715 also selects the index from the process default. The activity can read the wrong files or fail before building a snapshot. Resolve both defaults from options.env ?? process.env, while retaining the explicit path options.

Track transient npm migrations and pinned OpenCode installs using the existing owned-command lifecycle. A real-process regression reproduces both orphaned process trees before the fix and checks down/reset cleanup plus unrelated-process preservation.

Validation: Node 22.23.3 dev-stack suite 65/65; both new cases fail on the unchanged 73237e2 baseline.
Integrate upstream adb96ac, including ba7f46f's fixed PNG fixture and deterministic design-run assertions, while retaining the reviewed dev-stack command ownership and shutdown fixes.

Validated Nous and design-run API tests: 2 files, 9 tests passed on Node 22.23.3 and FFmpeg 6.1.1. Dev-stack production/test blobs remain unchanged from 57fc285.

Maintainer CI/review unblock for #65: the current PR head is 30903c6 (integrated with upstream adb96ac). The upstream Dev stack from source, CI, Security, and Container matrix runs at that SHA are still action_required, so I am not claiming that upstream CI has run or passed.

On the matching source tree, the fork's Linux and macOS/Colima source-stack lifecycle jobs passed, as did the six container-matrix jobs (links and exact-tree provenance are in the PR description). The fork's dependency-review API check and sanitized-export provenance gate are not green; manual WSL2/visual validation is not claimed.

Could a maintainer approve the pending upstream workflows when appropriate, and flag any remaining #65 acceptance gap that requires a targeted follow-up? I'll address concrete reviewer or CI findings rather than add unrelated changes.
