Summary

A capabilities document could advertise a known live rustgis-login: wrapper at several XML endpoint/template boundaries, allowing the document to supply authority instead of RustGIS choosing it. This is a confirmed boundary defect, not evidence that a remote service could discover or guess a binding.

Route WMS GetMap, WMTS KVP Get and ResourceURL, WFS GetFeature, and WCS GetCoverage addresses through the existing trusted-base resolver. During document-link resolution, a supplied wrapper contributes only its ordinary URL; only the trusted document base can supply a login, and only at the same origin. These five boundaries now resolve relative links against the capabilities URL, including query-only references that retain the endpoint path and replace its query. Ordinary HTTP(S) URLs, template placeholders, same-origin inheritance, cross-origin stripping of document authority, and oversized same-origin refusal are preserved.

Relative path segments ./.. normalize without altering template or query bytes. Selected WFS, WMTS KVP, and WCS endpoints replace capabilities operation keys before constructing requests, retaining unrelated parameters.

Add deterministic behavior regressions and document the trust rule. This is audit Split B only, independent of Split A's HEAD diagnostics and Split C's browser randomness. No credential persistence, new login methods, or broader authentication rewrite. No external project's code was followed.

Testing

  • cargo xtask ci — passed formatting, workspace Clippy with warnings denied, workspace tests, and layering.
  • pre-commit run --all-files — passed all configured hooks.
  • cargo test -p rustgis-data ogc::document_tests — 8 passed; covers all five endpoint/template boundaries, authority inheritance/stripping, URL/template preservation, malformed and oversized inputs, generated-capabilities operation keys, parsed-WFS offset paging, and relative dot-segment/raw-byte controls.
  • cargo test -p rustgis-data links_resolved_and_schemes_checked — passed.
  • cargo test -p rustgis-data linked_pages_drop_the_login_after_leaving_its_origin — passed.
  • cargo run -p rustgis-tiles --example ogc_document_login_smoke — throwaway smoke passed 128 parsed capabilities documents and 288 request preparations through actual logins::apply, using synthetic active logins. Foreign supplied bindings yielded no authority; same-origin links used only the trusted base login. No network, real credentials, or keychain access; smoke source removed afterward.
  • cargo run -p rustgis-tiles --example ogc_query_login_smoke — after the review fix, a throwaway smoke passed 16 documents and 36 prepared requests using synthetic active logins, checking query-only endpoint-path retention, old-query/fragment removal and trusted login selection. The regression failed before the fix and passed afterward; smoke source removed.
  • cargo run -p rustgis-tiles --example ogc_scheme_login_smoke — throwaway smoke passed 80 documents and 156 prepared requests, verifying unsupported schemes use the trusted fallback while colon-bearing path/query relatives preserve their target and login behavior. The regression failed before the fix and passed afterward; synthetic credentials only, no network/keychain I/O; smoke source removed.
  • cargo run -p rustgis-tiles --example ogc_empty_path_login_smoke — throwaway smoke passed 48 documents and 108 prepared requests for fragment-only references and query values containing https://, preserving the endpoint path, correct query semantics and trusted login selection. Both regressions failed before the fix and passed afterward; synthetic credentials only, no network/keychain I/O; smoke source removed.
  • cargo run -p rustgis-tiles --example ogc_compatibility_smoke -- dots and -- operation — actual native cache::download_blocking_within GETs to a bounded loopback server. Both failed before the fix and passed afterward: the tile request uses /tiles/0/0/0.png with signed query bytes unchanged; WFS sends one correct service/version/operation set while retaining map= and synthetic token encoding. The synthetic login header was observed on both requests. Explicit insecure consent for loopback only; no real credentials/keychain/external network; smoke source removed.
  • cargo build --locked --target wasm32-unknown-unknown -p rustgis-web — passed with AR_wasm32_unknown_unknown set to the installed Rust llvm-ar; the default Apple archiver failed to index Zstandard's wasm objects. No repository configuration change.

Reviewed with review-loop: 3 rounds, 0 findings fixed, 0 declined. All three fresh-context reviewers approved the initial behavior diff. Subsequent GitHub review identified additional reference-resolution regressions, fixed with failing-before/passing-after coverage and request-level smokes.

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • Bug Fixes
    • OGC service endpoints and WMTS tile templates now resolve relative links against their service document, including path-relative, root-relative, scheme-relative, query-only, and fragment-only links. Dot segments are resolved, and query-only links replace the existing query.
    • Links using URI schemes are rejected, while relative links containing colons remain resolvable when the colon does not mark a scheme. Login details are inherited only when a resolved link shares the document request’s origin. Runtime wrappers contribute their URL, not their login; links to other origins remain unbound.
  • Documentation
    • Clarified how service document links and login bindings are handled.

Walkthrough

OGC advertised endpoints and WMTS tile templates now resolve relative links against the capabilities URL. Document login bindings apply only when the resolved target has the same origin. Tests and documentation cover URL resolution and login-binding behavior.

Explanation

The title names the main change: service documents are prevented from choosing login bindings. The changeset routes WMS, WMTS, WFS, and WCS links through the trusted-base resolver so that advertised wrappers cannot supply authority. The title uses the conventional fix(data) prefix and is 65 characters, within a reasonable length. It does not describe the reference-resolution or dot-segment work in detail, which is acceptable because the title need not cover every detail.

Code review

Bugs

  • Query-only hrefs resolve against the wrong path (crates/data/src/ogc.rs:835, confidence about 50%). The PR routes relative OnlineResource and template hrefs through resolve. resolve_inner joins a query-only href such as ?map=/x.map to the document's folder, so https://host/cgi-bin/mapserv?… becomes https://host/cgi-bin/?map=…. Before this change the relative href was ignored and the endpoint was used, which was correct. The same gap affects the other changed sites and existing callers. The suggested fix and a regression row are in the inline comment.

Security

  • No new issue found. A supplied rustgis-login: wrapper is reduced to its URL, and its login is re-bound only when its canonical origin matches the trusted base. Malformed wrappers fall back to the endpoint. Foreign, @-userinfo, backslash and oversized cases are handled and tested.

Performance

  • Nothing notable. The extra parse calls are negligible.

Quality

  • The test loop shadows the requests helper with let requests = requests(&service);. Consider renaming it. Quality point, so it can wait for the release quality pass.
  • The PR body says relative links "remain intact", but relative OnlineResource and template hrefs at the five changed sites were previously ignored and are now resolved. That behaviour change is not described. Confidence about 80%.
  • A foreign wrapper is now stripped without any notice. The docs describe this, and no data is lost, so AGENTS.md's "Never silent" rule does not clearly apply. Low confidence.

AGENTS.md

  • No violations found. Test-code unwrap and panic are allowed by clippy.toml, the #[path] depths are correct, and there are no assets. Every changed is_web site now goes through resolve, and the remaining is_web filters in ogc.rs already resolve first.

Already raised: none. The prior-review list was empty, so I left no concerns alone.

Match the Operation form of WMTS GetTile when reading the KVP endpoint.

The WMTS 1.0.0 standard advertises KVP GetTile as <ows:Operation name="GetTile"> with a DCP/HTTP/Get child. wmts() matches only an element named GetTile, so that form is ignored and the KVP endpoint falls back to the capabilities URL. Add that form to the fixture, and match it the way the WCS GetCoverage lookup does.

Minor · Do not record another origin's saved connection on advertised tile templates. · ogc.rs:1419

crates/data/src/ogc.rs:1419
Minor · Security & Privacy · Poor tradeoff

Do not record another origin's saved connection on advertised tile templates.

tag records a connection on each new tile. For a tile at another origin, it selects the connection saved for that origin, or the only service connection there. This selection does not check whether the tile came from a document that advertises it. When that connection logs in, rebind_connection binds its login to each tile that records it at the same origin. A template advertised at another origin can therefore receive that origin's login.

The documented rule says that advertised endpoints and tile templates inherit only the login used to read the document. This binding does not come from that login.

The credentials are sent only to the other origin. The advertising service can still use this path to send authenticated requests to that origin, with paths and query strings it chooses. This PR does not add the path. Foreign absolute templates keep the same URL as before, and tag and rebind_connection are unchanged.

A localized fix is not established. Skipping the selection for foreign origins would also change how layers record their connection, which the tag comment describes as intended.

Review dispositions for the current head:

  • Query-only references: fixed in 00dca98. The resolver retains the capabilities endpoint path while replacing its query; regression coverage failed before the fix and passed afterward across all eight service fixtures. The new request smoke also passed 16 documents / 36 request preparations with synthetic active logins.
  • PR description: corrected to state that the five changed boundaries now resolve relative links, and scoped the authority statement to document-link resolution. Testing now includes the query-only regression and smoke.
  • Standard WMTS Operation name="GetTile": valid existing interoperability gap, but operation discovery is unchanged by this PR. This is out of scope for the document-authority fix; a separate compatibility change should retain coverage of the currently recognized form.
  • Later saved-connection association on advertised foreign-origin tiles: a separate existing engine association path, unchanged here, rather than inheritance of document-supplied wrapper authority. It requires a separately designed fix and private security follow-up; this PR does not claim to fix it.
  • The local requests variable naming is left for the release quality pass.
  • Removing a document-supplied wrapper's authority retains its ordinary target URL and is the intended trust-boundary enforcement. No dropped/truncated/approximated data or concrete notice requirement was identified.
  • The resolver's trust contract is documented. Additional parser/test-helper docstrings are left for the release quality pass; the bot threshold is not a repository gate.

Low (~25%): a same-origin link with a space, backslash or control character silently loses its login.

resolve ends with login_address::inherit (crates/data/src/login_address.rs:117-127), which compares origins with raw_origin. That function rejects the whole URL, query included, if it contains whitespace, a control character or a backslash. A same-origin link like that comes back as a plain URL and is requested anonymously, with no notice.

This PR routes WMS, WMTS, WFS and WCS endpoints and tile templates through resolve, so the case now reaches more addresses. Before this PR those links were used without a login, so it is not a regression. The docs say a link that cannot be rebound "is left unchanged and reported", which is not what happens here.

Possible fix: check the origin on the authority alone (raw_origin of the part before the path), or percent-encode spaces in resolve_inner. Either way, a test with https://maps.example.org/…?LAYERS=a b from a bound document would pin the behaviour.

This is pre-existing malformed-address handling, not a regression introduced here. This scoped fix retains the conservative origin check rather than broadening credential attachment or silently repairing URLs. Malformed-target handling and the existing documentation promise can be investigated separately. (reviewed at a433bad)

Bugs

  • Relative GetMap hrefs drop the document's own query parameters (crates/data/src/ogc.rs:838). Before this PR, a relative href fell back to endpoint(url), which kept MapServer's map=. Now it resolves to a bare URL, so map= is lost. Absolute hrefs already behave this way, so this extends an existing gap to relative hrefs. Confidence ~40%.
  • Scheme-like hrefs without // become folder-relative URLs (crates/data/src/ogc.rs:630). file:/x, mailto:x and ftp:x now resolve to <folder>/file:/x on the service host instead of falling back to the endpoint. Not an escape, since the origin is unchanged. Confidence ~25%.
  • Same-origin links with whitespace, a backslash or a control character silently lose their login (crates/data/src/ogc.rs:608, via login_address::inherit). raw_origin rejects the whole URL, so the link is requested anonymously with no notice. This is not a regression, but the docs' "left unchanged and reported" does not hold here. Confidence ~25%.

Security

  • No new issues found. A supplied wrapper is reduced to its URL in resolve and only the trusted base binding can be re-applied, and only at the same canonical origin. Malformed wrappers return None, which falls back to the endpoint.

Performance

  • Nothing notable.

Quality

  • Nits, left for the release quality pass: the new ? branch in resolve_inner has no comment explaining RFC 3986 §5.2.2 behaviour. The offer-matching block in oversized_same_origin_document_targets_fail_closed duplicates requests().

AGENTS.md

  • No violations found. Test modules use unwrap and panic, which clippy.toml allows in tests. The new code adds no unwrap or panic outside tests.
  • The ogc_document_tests.rs #[path] resolves to tests/support/ogc_document_logins.rs correctly, consistent with the existing ogc.rs fixture path.

Already raised, left alone: the query-only ? path issue (2 threads, 1 concern). The fix is in head commit 00dca98 (ogc.rs:630) and covered by the unit assertion at ogc.rs:4192. I did not re-post it.

Not verified: I could not run tests or the build in this session (no Bash), so the behaviour claims rest on reading the code.

Reject non-HTTP schemes before treating a link as relative.

resolve_inner rejects only values that contain ://. A link such as file:/etc/passwd has no ://, so it reaches the relative branch and becomes https://maps.example.org/folder/file:/etc/passwd. Before this change, is_web rejected the value and the service used endpoint(url). Now the request goes to a broken same-origin path. For a bound document, that request also keeps the document's login. The same applies to other schemes, such as mailto: or urn:. Reject any value that starts with a valid scheme before the relative branch. The existing tests miss this form because file:///etc/passwd is already rejected by the :// check.

Remaining review dispositions at a433bad:

  • Unsupported URI schemes without //: fixed in a433bad. The existing resolver now recognizes the leading RFC scheme grammar before relative resolution, without allocating or changing origin/login policy. The regression failed before the fix and passed afterward. Tests retain colon-bearing path/query controls; the synthetic parser/request smoke passed 80 documents and 156 prepared requests. Repository CI, pre-commit hooks and the wasm build passed locally; the new GitHub checks are running.
  • Carrying capabilities query parameters onto a relative endpoint is not part of this fix: the reference's nonempty path selects its own query under RFC 3986. Forwarding arbitrary map=/token parameters would add query propagation policy outside this PR. The inline thread records the same disposition.
  • Malformed-address spaces/backslashes/control handling is pre-existing. Conservative origin checks are retained rather than broadened or paired with silent URL repair; the inline thread records this scope decision.
  • The suggested query-only explanatory comment is left for the release quality pass; the endpoint-path/query behavior is covered by the regression assertion.
  • Extracting the oversized offer match is left for the release quality pass. That test intentionally inspects invalid oversized wrappers, whereas the existing helper assumes usable feature-info requests; directly substituting it would change the test contract.

The PR Testing section now includes the exercised scheme-regression smoke. No unrelated code, follow-up issues, or manual thread resolutions were added.

Bugs

  • Fragment-only hrefs resolve to the folder. resolve_inner handles ? but not #, so #x on /cgi-bin/mapserv becomes /cgi-bin/#x. These five boundaries used to ignore relative hrefs, so this is new exposure. Inline comment posted at crates/data/src/ogc.rs:634, with a one-line suggestion. Confidence ~35%, low severity.

No other bugs found. I checked the query-only case, the has_scheme rule, the wrapper handling in resolve and inherit, without_wms_keys on a bound URL, and the test helpers' module paths.

Security

  • None found. Wrappers only contribute their URL, and inherit re-binds only at the base's origin. file:, mailto: and other schemes are now rejected by has_scheme. I found no link in ogc.rs that bypasses resolve and accepts a wrapper unchecked.

Performance

  • None found.

Quality

  • No new findings worth raising. Two small points for the release quality pass: a has_scheme closure without a comment, and the for bad in [...] line break at ogc.rs:105 of the diff.

AGENTS.md

  • Non-test code adds no unwrap, expect, panic! or unsafe.
  • The trust rule is documented in docs/user-guide/data.md and in the resolve doc comment.
  • Tests cover both directions (trusted base keeps its login, foreign wrappers don't).

Earlier concerns

Five existing threads were reviewed. None were re-posted:

  • Query-only path loss: fixed in this PR's ? branch, and the thread is resolved.
  • Non-web schemes such as file:/x: addressed by has_scheme and covered by the new test cases.
  • Dropped map= document parameters on relative GetMap hrefs: still open and unanswered. The code at ogc.rs:842 is unchanged, so I left it alone.
  • Same-origin links with a space, backslash or control character losing their login: still open and unanswered. login_address::inherit is unchanged, so I left it alone.

Four concerns were left alone in total (two open, one addressed, one fixed).

Approved continuation dispositions at 42c1a25:

  • Query-only references containing a URL: fixed in 42c1a25. Query-only handling now runs before scheme/substring rejection, so ?upstream=https://… retains its advertised query rather than using endpoint fallback. Leading unsupported URI schemes remain rejected.
  • Fragment-only references: fixed in 42c1a25 with a separate branch that preserves both the endpoint path and the existing query, replacing only the fragment. Reusing base() for this case would incorrectly drop the query, so the suggested shared ?/# branch was not used.
  • Both regressions failed before the fix and passed afterward. All four document tests and the existing resolution regression passed. A synthetic-login parser/request smoke passed 48 documents and 108 prepared requests with bare and bound bases; its temporary source was removed. Repository CI, pre-commit hooks, and the wasm build passed locally; new GitHub checks are running. PR Testing evidence is updated.
  • The suggested has_scheme comment and for bad line-break preference are left for the release quality pass.

The earlier base-query forwarding and malformed-origin concerns are already answered directly in their threads at a433bad, in replies 4480820259 and 4480820674 respectively. The later review summary saying they were unanswered is stale; their approved scope dispositions remain unchanged. No threads were manually resolved or unrelated issues opened.

Bugs

  • Medium, ~60% confidence: A fragment-only href (#…) now keeps the capabilities document's SERVICE/REQUEST/VERSION keys. The WFS, WMTS KVP and WCS builders append their own keys with with_query and never strip these, so the request carries duplicate keys. Before this PR the # href was ignored and endpoint() stripped the keys. Posted inline on crates/data/src/ogc.rs:1529, with a suggested .map(|h| endpoint(&h)) fix for the WMTS KVP (line 1323) and WCS (line 1706) sites too. WMS is unaffected because without_wms_keys already strips them.
  • Checked and fine: wrapper handling in resolve/inherit (the document's binding is re-applied only at the same origin), the ? branch (replaces the query and keeps the document path), the has_scheme rule, and the :// exemption for query-only references.

Security

  • No new issues. Scheme-relative and query-only links cannot change origin, and inherit only rebinds same-origin results.

Performance

  • None worth raising.

Quality

  • The # test fixture has no OGC keys, so the bug above is untested. This is part of the inline comment.
  • from.split('#').next().unwrap_or(from) never takes the fallback, since split always yields a first item.
  • The has_scheme closure in resolve_inner is dense; a named is_scheme helper would read better.
  • The resolve doc comment still lists only absolute, scheme-relative, host-relative and folder-relative forms, not the new query-only and fragment-only cases.
  • ogc_document_tests.rs repeats the offer-to-URL match in requests() and in the oversized test.

These are quality points, so per the repo's review rules they can wait for the release quality pass.

AGENTS.md

  • Test code follows the repo's conventions (clippy.toml allows unwrap in tests, and panic! is used in existing tests). No line in the PR exceeds the 140-column rustfmt width.
  • No new dependencies, and no wasm impact.

Earlier concerns left alone: 6 existing review threads were not re-raised. Five were already answered or fixed (query-only path, :// in query-only references, scheme-like hrefs, fragment handling, and the query-only path test). The sixth, about relative GetMap hrefs dropping the document's own query, was answered by the author as intentional, so I did not re-raise it. The same-origin whitespace login-drop thread was answered as pre-existing, and I left it alone too.

Normalize .. segments in the shared OGC relative resolver.

For a reachable WMTS ResourceURL containing ../tiles/{z}/{y}/{x}.png, resolve_inner creates a literal /folder/../tiles/ path. service.add stores that path without calling template::join, and the native tile path passes it to ureq without URL-resolution normalization. The request target can therefore differ from the intended parent-relative URL. The shared resolver is the correction site for the WMS, WMTS, WFS, and WCS call sites that use resolve.

The .. segment does not change the login-origin decision because origin excludes the path.

Approved compatibility dispositions at 0db2ef8:

  • Stale capabilities operation keys: fixed in 0db2ef8 at the selected WFS, WMTS KVP, and WCS endpoints, reusing the existing endpoint() cleanup. Generated-capabilities regressions verify one correct SERVICE/REQUEST/VERSION, preserved map= and raw synthetic token encoding, both WCS operations, and parsed-WFS offset paging through all three requests/features with no incomplete-result notice. WMS retains its existing cleanup; REST templates keep their own query semantics.
  • Literal dot segments in relative paths: fixed in 0db2ef8 by a private, allocation-conscious path append routine, not a general URL-parser cutover. Relative/root-relative/scheme-relative paths normalize literal ./.. without changing placeholders, percent escapes, repeated/trailing slashes, or query/fragment bytes; parent traversal stops at root. Absolute advertised HTTP(S) URLs retain their bytes and cannot contribute a binding.
  • Both defects were observed before the fix in actual native GET request targets using cache::download_blocking_within and a bounded loopback server. After the fix, the tile GET targets /tiles/0/0/0.png with signed query bytes unchanged, and WFS sends one correct operation set. Both carry only the synthetic login header. No real credentials/keychain/external network were used; temporary source removed.
  • All eight document regressions, the existing resolver regression, WCS coverage test, full repository CI, pre-commit hooks and wasm build passed locally. The obsolete test assertion pinning an internal trailing & was removed rather than re-pinned; its consumer-visible DescribeCoverage request assertion remains. Documentation and the PR's authored summary/Testing evidence were updated.
  • Remaining quality suggestions—harmless fallback simplification, helper extraction/readability, resolver-comment wording and test refactoring—are left for the release quality pass. Previously dispositioned duplicates remain closed.

Bug (about 70%): path-relative and host-relative hrefs containing :// in their path or query are still rejected.

href.contains("://") runs for every non-?/# reference. So /cgi-bin/mapserv?map=/x.map&url=https://data.example/t or tiles/{TileMatrix}/{TileRow}/{TileCol}.png?src=https://… returns None. The callers then fall back silently: WMS, WMTS KVP, WFS and WCS use endpoint(url), which drops the advertised path and query, and WMTS ResourceURL templates are removed by filter_map with no notice. The earlier thread about ?upstream=https://… fixed only the ? branch. The same class remains for every other relative form.

has_scheme already rejects a leading scheme (file:, mailto:, https:), so the substring check adds nothing except this false rejection. Removing it is safe: //host… is handled after this check and has_scheme returns false for it.

Suggested change

A regression case would be resolve("https://x.org/folder/c", "/cgi-bin/mapserv?url=https://data.example/t") expecting https://x.org/cgi-bin/mapserv?url=https://data.example/t, plus a ResourceURL fixture with ?src=https://….

Fixed in 8d99cc0: removed the whole-string :// rejection while retaining leading unsupported-scheme validation. Added regressions across WMS/WMTS/WFS/WCS and realistic WMTS templates; a real loopback parser/template/HTTP smoke confirmed exact URL-valued queries and trusted-base-only login inheritance.

Quality (test coverage, about 60%): the WCS endpoint assertion was deleted rather than updated.

The removed line pinned the old trailing & (…mapserv?map=/m/soc.map&). That value came from the raw href. With the change, endpoint() drops the empty pair, so the new value is …mapserv?map=/m/soc.map. Deleting the assertion leaves c.endpoint unpinned for WCS 2.0. Restoring it with the new value keeps coverage of the endpoint and documents the change. Per the review rules this can wait for the release quality pass, but the deletion is worth fixing in this PR.

The internal-format assertion was intentionally removed rather than repinned. Exact DescribeCoverage request coverage remains, alongside regressions for both WCS operations. (reviewed at 8d99cc0)

Regression (about 55%): a relative same-origin link with a space, backslash or control character now loses its login silently. This is in resolve, which calls inherit at line 612.

The earlier thread was answered for absolute links, which were already anonymous before this PR. Relative links behave differently. Before, a relative OnlineResource was filtered out by is_web, so endpoint(url) kept the document's binding. Now resolve returns the joined URL and inherit calls origin(url), which runs raw_origin over the whole URL. That rejects it because of the space, so the URL comes back unbound and is requested anonymously with no notice.

Possible fix: have inherit check only the authority (the part before the first /, ? or #). The wrapper then keeps the binding, and parse refuses it because raw_origin rejects the whitespace. The request fails closed instead of going out anonymously. Percent-encoding the whitespace in resolve_inner would also work. Either way, add a test with a relative href containing a space in a bound document.

The relative-link distinction is real, but the examples are malformed URLs rejected by the existing conservative origin validator. URL repair and malformed-target authentication policy remain outside this scoped fix. (reviewed at 8d99cc0)

Bugs

  • Path-relative and host-relative hrefs with :// in their query or path are rejected (about 70%). href.contains("://") in resolve_inner returns None for /cgi-bin/mapserv?url=https://…. Callers then fall back silently to endpoint(url), and WMTS ResourceURL templates are dropped with no notice. The earlier ?upstream=https://… thread fixed only the ? branch. The suggestion is to remove the substring check, since has_scheme already covers leading schemes. Posted inline.
  • Regression: a relative same-origin link containing a space, backslash or control character loses its login silently (about 55%). Before this PR, relative links fell back to endpoint(url) and kept the binding. Now inherit's raw_origin check rejects the whole URL, so the request goes out anonymously. This is new evidence the earlier answer does not address, since that answer covered absolute links only. Posted inline.

Security

  • No new issues found. Every raw href reaches resolve before use (checked is_web callers at ogc.rs:1192, 1370, 2705). Supplied wrappers are stripped by inner and rebound only by inherit at the document's origin. push_resolved_path cannot escape the host, and its truncate offsets stay on char boundaries.

Performance

  • Nothing notable.

Quality

  • The WCS endpoint assertion was deleted, not updated (about 60%, ogc.rs:6432). The removed line pinned the old trailing &. The new value is …mapserv?map=/m/soc.map, so the endpoint should be pinned again. Posted inline with a suggestion. This can wait for the release quality pass, but it is a coverage loss in changed code.

AGENTS.md

  • Test module, wasm, layering and the unwrap rule look compliant. clippy.toml allows unwrap in tests. I did not run tests or CI, since I had no shell. The author reports cargo xtask ci passing.

Earlier threads left alone: 7 of 9 existing threads. Two I re-raised with new evidence (the space thread and the :// class). The map= query-drop thread is answered by a MEMBER and not re-raised. The fragment, duplicate-key, scheme-like and query-only threads are fixed by the current code.

Allow :// in the query of path-relative links.

The guard at crates/data/src/ogc.rs:630 checks href.contains("://") against the whole href. A path-relative advertised link such as tiles?upstream=https://data.example/tiles therefore returns None, even though its query value is not a URI scheme. The query-only form ?upstream=https://... returns earlier at line 620 and is accepted. The same query value is handled differently depending on whether a path precedes ?.

When the guard returns None, the WMS GetMap link falls back to endpoint(url), which drops the advertised query. The WMTS ResourceURL template is removed from the candidate list. The PR states that relative links resolve without rewriting query values. The fix below applies the :// check only to the path before the first ? or #.

No new defects found at high confidence. I traced the new resolve_inner branches (?, #, //, relative, dot-segments) and push_resolved_path, the login_address::inherit authority check, and the WMS/WMTS/WFS/WCS call sites. Note that I could only read the code, not compile or run the tests, so the PR's smoke-test claims are unverified here.

Bugs

  • No high-confidence bugs. Checked the .. truncation against char boundaries (no panic path), the query-only and fragment-only cases, and the // host split.
  • Low (~15%): endpoint() now also strips f, sections and acceptversions from advertised WFS, WMTS KVP and WCS endpoints (ogc.rs:717-735, called at :1356, :1563, :1741). Before, that stripping applied only to the fallback address. A server that advertises a real f= parameter would now lose it without a notice.

Security

  • None found (~85%). The binding always comes from the document's own from, via inherit. A wrapper in a document link is unwrapped to its URL only. raw_origin refuses userinfo, whitespace, backslashes and malformed authorities, so a foreign-origin link cannot receive the base binding.

Performance

  • None significant. Per-link work is linear in the href length.

Quality

  • Nit: the resolve doc comment (ogc.rs:604-607) doesn't mention the new query and fragment branches or the None cases (empty href, malformed wrapper).
  • Nit: the has_scheme closure inline in resolve_inner (ogc.rs:626-629) would read better as a named helper.
  • Nit: oversized_same_origin_document_targets_fail_closed rebuilds the request list instead of reusing requests().
  • The deleted WCS endpoint assertion is already raised in an open thread; left alone.

AGENTS.md

  • Never silent (~35%): the new explicit rejection at ogc.rs:630-632, and the resolve(...) → None fallbacks in the WMS, WMTS, WFS and WCS builders, drop a link or fall back to the endpoint without a notice. AGENTS asks for a notice through Session::notify or ToolResult::messages. The pattern predates this PR, but the PR now rejects more relative forms on these lines.
  • Doc precision (~90%, trivial): docs/user-guide/data.md says a wrapper "contributes its ordinary URL". A malformed wrapper is dropped instead.

Earlier concerns

  • Left alone, 4 in total, all already raised:
    • Open and unanswered: relative same-origin links containing a space, backslash or control character lose their login silently (the thread at ogc.rs:617, still present at ogc.rs:611-612). The WCS endpoint assertion deletion, which the thread says to restore with the new value.
    • Answered by the author: absolute same-origin links with whitespace (pre-existing), and relative GetMap hrefs dropping the document's query (author cites RFC 3986 §5.2.2).
  • Checked as fixed in the head and not re-raised: query-only hrefs, fragment-only hrefs, :// inside query values, scheme-like hrefs, and duplicate WFS/WMTS/WCS operation keys.

No inline comments posted: nothing I verified is a defect on a changed line with high confidence, and the items above are either low-confidence or quality nits.

Disposition of the remaining observations in the latest Claude review, reviewed at 8d99cc0:

  • Parameter stripping — skip as unsubstantiated. endpoint() does remove f, sections, and acceptversions; no concrete supported-service failure establishes that these are unrelated required parameters rather than operation/discovery state. No further sanitizer change is made here.
  • Rejection/fallback notices — skip. The review identifies an existing rejection/fallback pattern, not a demonstrated new valid-input failure. The latest fix removes a false rejection of relative links containing URL-valued query parameters.
  • Quality observations — deferred. Resolver documentation detail, extracting the scheme predicate, reusing the request helper in the oversized-target test, and wording about malformed wrappers are left for the release quality pass. Repeated quality suggestions do not reopen the earlier dispositions, and none are included in this push.
