fix(tiles): use browser crypto for service login bindings - #1473
Browser web-service login bindings are bearer capabilities, but their wasm generator used a time/counter/hash fallback that provided uniqueness rather than cryptographic unpredictability.
Use the existing getrandom dependency's supported wasm_js backend, which calls globalThis.crypto.getRandomValues in windows and workers. Remove the predictable fallback entirely.
Refuse activation with a fixed, non-secret error when secure generation is missing or fails. Failed replacement preserves the prior active binding and credential. Keep native generation, the 128-bit hex format, collision retries, origin/HTTP-consent rules, and session-only semantics unchanged.
Replace superficial token-quality assertions with regressions for partial-source failure, preservation of live credentials, collision retries, and exhaustion; document the secure-source requirement.
This is audit split C only. It does not change OGC document-wrapper handling, native HEAD diagnostics, or credential persistence. No practical token-guessing exploit is claimed. Uses rust-random/getrandom's existing backend; no third-party source or assets copied.
Testing
cargo xtask ci — formatting, workspace Clippy, workspace tests, and layer checks.
pre-commit run --all-files.
cargo build --target wasm32-unknown-unknown -p rustgis-web — macOS build uses the Rust toolchain's llvm-ar for wasm archives.
cargo test -p rustgis-tiles before rebase — 279 passed; final workspace CI includes 282 passing tiles tests. Focused engine service-login tests — 39 passed.
cargo deny --locked check licenses and cargo xtask notices; shipped notices remain current. The license check reports the existing webpki 0.22.4 missing-manifest-license warning.
Actual browser verification used a temporary harness loading the real engine and tiles wasm, not the rendered egui application. Window and DedicatedWorker activation delegated to native browser Crypto.getRandomValues; the 16 returned bytes matched the generated binding. Successful replacement rotated/revoked bindings, and logout revoked the current generation, including with crypto unavailable.
Controlled missing crypto, missing method, and throwing/partially-writing source refused fresh activation and preserved the prior binding and credential on failed replacement. The pre-fix login module, loaded for comparison, activated with crypto absent. Temporary harness, baseline copy, server, and browser tabs were removed.

Summary by CodeRabbit
Security
Login bindings now use cryptographically secure randomness on desktop and in supported browsers. If secure randomness is unavailable or fails, login creation is refused instead of using a predictable fallback.
Failed login creation leaves the existing active login unchanged. Token collisions are retried without replacing existing logins.
Documentation
Updated the user guide and architecture documentation with login token behavior and failure handling.
Login activation now uses secure randomness on native and wasm targets. Failed random generation and repeated token collisions do not install a login or replace an existing one. Tests and documentation cover these behaviors.

getrandom uses its wasm_js backend on wasm targets. Activation passes a random-byte source to token generation, and the wasm fallback is removed. Tests cover random-source failures and collision retries. Documentation describes the secure randomness requirements and failed replacement behavior.

Explanation
The title names the main change: browser web-service login bindings now take their random bytes from the browser crypto source, which the PR implements through getrandom's wasm_js backend and removes the predictable fallback. It follows the conventional-commit style and stays under 60 characters. It does not mention the refusal behavior on failure, which is a detail and not the main point.

A rabbit checks the token’s source, Secure bytes set the binding course. If random fails, no login lands, Old bindings stay in steady hands. Four collisions, then we stop, And let the prior login hop.
No bugs, security problems, or performance issues found. One minor test-coverage nit. No prior review threads exist on this PR, so nothing was skipped as already raised.
Bugs: None found (confidence: high). activate_with_random generates the random bytes before it inserts anything, so a failed source returns early and leaves the prior entry in place. The caller in crates/engine/src/service_logins.rs:198 activates before it removes the old generation at line 203, so a failed replacement keeps the old login. The collision retry loop still never overwrites a live entry, and the four-attempt bound is enforced.
Security: None found (confidence: high). The predictable wasm fallback is removed, and tokens still come from 128 bits of getrandom output. Error messages are fixed strings and carry no secret material.
Performance: None found (confidence: high). The random read happens under the existing entries mutex. It is a single 16-byte read, so the cost is negligible.
Quality:
Minor nit, test coverage (confidence: medium). The removed bindings_are_long_distinct_and_not_a_sequence was the only test that checked the production token format: 32 lowercase hex digits, plus a bind round trip. After this PR, no test checks the output of the real generator. The new tests use injected byte sources, which is good, but a single format assertion on random_token with a fixed byte array would keep the documented contract covered. This can wait for the release quality pass.
AGENTS.md: No violations found (confidence: high).
No unwrap, expect or panic is added to non-test code. fill_random uses map_err.
Every failure path returns a visible error, which meets the never-silent rule.
The wasm_js feature is gated to target_arch = "wasm32" in crates/tiles/Cargo.toml, and getrandom is already an existing dependency, so no new crate is introduced. Cargo.lock is not in the diff.
docs/architecture.md and docs/user-guide/data.md are updated to match the new behavior.
The PR adds no copied third-party code and no assets.
