fix(ui): start the Script pane blank when another project opens (#1511) - #1524
Opening another project (New, Open, the sample, a template) left the Script pane with the previous project's script, results and run count. This happened whether the app, a script, the assistant or an agent opened it. Now the pane starts blank, like the project:
The pane remembers which project its script is for (Session::opened). When the open project changes, it clears the script, the results and the Run # count at once, with runs still to land or not, so the old script can't be run again in the new project.
Each queued run records the project it was asked in. One asked in the previous project that lands without running (left or cancelled) adds nothing to the pane; its "Run Script was left" notice stays among the session's notices.
A script that opens a project itself (project.sample, project.open) is kept with its results, as Run #1 in the project it opened.
User guide: the Script pane paragraph says what goes with the old project and what stays.
Testing
cargo fmt --check, cargo clippy -D warnings, cargo nextest run --workspace (4263 passed, 21 skipped), doctests and cargo xtask layers: all green after rebasing onto main with feat(ui): the Script pane's last run whole in a Details window #1516, and again after the review fixes.
New test analysispane::tests::another_project_starts_the_script_pane_blank. It covers:
results kept in their own project;
project.new from a command clearing everything, including an open Details window with the pane hidden;
a script written but never run clearing on project.sample;
Script content, results, and run history are now kept with the project they belong to. Opening a different project clears the previous project’s script-pane state, while a script that opens a project keeps its results there.
Run numbering now starts at 1 for each project, and late results from another project are handled without mixing project histories.
Documentation
Updated the Script pane guide to explain how project changes affect scripts, results, run counts, and the Details window.
The Script pane now tracks the project associated with its script and results. When another project opens, the pane and Details window clear stale state. Runs are numbered per project, and results from a run that opens a project itself remain associated with that project.

Summary
Track and reset Script state crates/ui-egui/src/analysispane.rs, docs/user-guide/analysis.md
Workflow records the associated project. The Script pane and Details window check for project changes and clear the script, results, and last run when another project opens. Tests and the guide cover project switches and runs that open a project.
Scope run results to projects crates/ui-egui/src/analysispane.rs
Queued runs record their starting project. A failed run from a replaced project is ignored, while successful runs are retained. Run numbering continues only for the same project and starts at 1 for another project.

Full details: Title check
Explanation
The title names the main change: the Script pane now starts blank when another project opens. It matches the changeset in analysispane.rs and the user guide, and it names the fix (fix(ui)) and the issue number (#1511). It is short, single-sentence, and specific.
Full details: Linked Issues check
Explanation
[#1511] Requirement: when another project opens, the Script pane starts blank (script, results, Run # line). Evidence at head: start_over_in_another_project (analysispane.rs) clears w.script, w.script_out and w.script_last when w.script_project differs from session.opened, then records the current project. It runs at the start of script_pane and script_details, so it covers the Details window with the pane hidden. Because the check uses session.opened, it applies to UI, script, assistant and agent project changes. Requirement: an in-flight run is left, and its 'Run Script was left' notice stays. Evidence: readjob.rs placed() returns Gone::Project when session.opened differs from the run's asked.opened. leave() passes NotRun to the run's then-callback, and the notice is recorded with session.notify. script_ran returns early for a non-Ran landing from a replaced project, so nothing is added to the pane. Requirement: a script that opens a project itself keeps its text and results, as Run #1 in that project. Evidence: script_ran sets n to 1 when asked_in differs from opened, and a Ran landing is not discarded. Requirement: automated test. Evidence: analysispane::tests::another_project_starts_the_script_pane_blank covers these cases, including the hidden pane with Details open and a run landing after a project change. Residual, non-blocking uncertainty: I did not confirm that Session::opened is strictly monotonic, so an A→B→A change within one frame would not clear. I did not read the user guide diff. Neither point changes the verdict on the issue's stated cases.
Full details: Out of Scope Changes check
Explanation
[#1511] The whole-PR diff of crates/ui-egui/src/analysispane.rs changes only Script pane project tracking, queued-run project tags, the ScriptRun doc wording, and the new test. Each hunk maps to the issue's requirement or to its direct support. The Details window check is part of the Script pane requirement, because the Details window shows the same run. The docs/user-guide/analysis.md change, per the raw summary, describes the same clearing behavior. No unrelated code change was found in the inspected hunks. I did not inspect every file in the PR, so the claim covers the reviewed diff and the summary's file list.

Full details: Description check
Explanation
The description follows the repository template closely. It has Summary, Testing, UI evidence, and Related issue sections. The Summary explains what changed and why: another project opening left the Script pane with stale script, results, and run count, and the PR makes the pane reset when the project changes. The Testing section lists the commands run, the new test and what it covers, and manual desktop checks. The UI evidence section includes before and after screenshots, which the template requires for visible UI changes. The Related issue section says Closes #1511. The template's placeholder comments were replaced with content. The only minor gap is that the UI evidence section uses HTML img tags that may not render, but the screenshots are attached and the section is complete.

A rabbit checks the project name, Old scripts and results leave the frame. New runs count from one once more, The Details window closes its door. A project-opening script stays, With results kept through its change of ways.
Run number carries over when a script opens a project itself (high confidence). script_ran computes n from the previous script_last before it updates script_project. A script run Run #3 in project A that runs project.sample shows Run #4 in project B, not the Run #1 the PR and the ScriptRun doc promise. The new test starts with script_last == None, so it misses this. Inline comment posted at crates/ui-egui/src/analysispane.rs:1622, with a suggestion.
Old script can run in the new project and survive the clear (medium confidence). While a run is still landing, the box keeps the old script and Run is still enabled. A Run or Ctrl+Enter during that wait queues the old script, which then runs in the new project. The queued run keeps script_started non-empty, so the clear is skipped, and once it lands as Ran, script_project matches and the clear never happens. Inline comment posted at crates/ui-egui/src/analysispane.rs:1570.
Security
None found. The change touches only UI state and docs, and adds no input parsing or I/O.
Performance
None found. start_over_in_another_project runs once per frame and does constant work.
Quality
docs/user-guide/analysis.md:156 is left as a short ragged line ("and the rest of the window stay in") after a partial reflow of the paragraph. Nit, low priority.
Clearing unrun script text on project open has no notice or undo. The PR documents this as intended, and it is UI input rather than project data, so I did not raise it under the "never silent" rule. Noting it so the maintainer can confirm it is what they want.
AGENTS.md
No violations found. The new code has no unwrap, expect, or unsafe, and no new user-visible strings. The test module's unwrap() calls match the rest of the file. script_details is called every frame from lib.rs:4786, so the Details window check does run when the pane is hidden.
Checked and left alone
The prior-reviews file has no threads, so there were no earlier concerns to skip.
The project counter logic holds: Session::opened is bumped in project.rs:162 and restored by guarded on failure, so a failed script cannot leave a stale project id that would match a later one.
readjob::stop only runs at exit, so the script_started queue is not left stale by normal use.

No blocking bugs found. I traced the new paths: start_over_in_another_project runs at the top of script_pane and script_details on every frame, so the old script is cleared before any Run can fire. A script that opens a project itself keeps its results and restarts at Run Add RustGIS: pure-Rust desktop GIS with a ribbon UI #1 (asked_in != opened). A left or cancelled run returns early and adds nothing. Session::opened only changes in cmd/project.rs:162 and is restored by the guarded rollback, so nothing else moves it. Confidence: high.
Security
None found. The diff adds no parsing, I/O or input handling.
Performance
None found. The per-frame work is a comparison and a few clears.
Quality
Nit, left for the release quality pass: script_started is now a three-field tuple (u64, Instant, u64). A small struct would read better. Confidence: medium.
Nit, left for the release quality pass: the new docs/user-guide/analysis.md line in the Script paragraph is about 165 characters, while the paragraph is wrapped near 100. Confidence: high.
AGENTS.md
No unwrap, expect, panic or unsafe in non-test code.
No new user-visible strings, so no tl! wrapping is needed.
The new test covers both the lossy and the clean cases.
Confidence: high.
Already raised (left alone)
3 earlier threads on this PR.
Batched-read notice (CodeRabbit, minor): still present in unchanged readjob::land code. Not re-posted.
Old script text surviving during the wait (github-actions, outdated): the pane clears at the next frame, before any Run. Resolved.
Posted inline
crates/ui-egui/src/analysispane.rs:2039: the PR description says a run still under way is waited for and cleared after it lands. The code, this test, and the user guide all clear at once. The description looks stale and should be updated.
Change size
Compared: the whole PR against main (merge base 009b80f to PR head b7cf555).
Checked the Script pane reset in analysispane.rs against readjob::land, Session::opened (bumped in cmd/project.rs:162, restored on rollback in lib.rs:1618), and the Ctrl+Enter path (only reachable through script_pane, which resets first). The four earlier threads are all resolved or withdrawn, and the fixes are in the code. I left them alone and didn't re-raise any.
Bugs
None found. A left or cancelled run from a replaced project is the only NotRun that reaches the early return. A Ran landing with asked_in != opened only happens when the script opened the project itself, which is the intended case. (Confidence: high)
Security
None found.
Performance
None found. The reset is a constant-time check per frame.
Quality
Nits, suitable for the release quality pass:
script_started is now a positional (u64, Instant, u64). A small named struct would make the pop_front destructure in script_ran self-describing. (Confidence: high that it's a readability point)
start_over_in_another_project reads as if it causes the project switch. A name like blank_if_project_changed says what it does. (Confidence: medium)
The new test calls start_over_in_another_project directly, so the one-line call in script_pane isn't exercised. A kittest frame would prove the wiring. (Confidence: medium-low)
The analysis.md reflow around lines 221–225 leaves uneven line lengths. (Confidence: high, cosmetic)
AGENTS.md
The PR says "No screenshots: the change only empties the pane", but AGENTS.md asks for screenshots of any visible change, "before and after for changed UI". Clearing the pane when a project opens is visible behavior. Please add a before/after pair, or explain why this case is exempt. (Confidence: medium-high)
Otherwise compliant. No unwrap/expect/panic in non-test code, no new user-visible literals (it reuses tl!("Running…")), no layering change, and the user guide is updated.
Change size
Compared: the whole PR against main (merge base 009b80f to PR head beb482e).
Bugs: None found. I traced the changed paths against the surrounding code and they hold:
Runs are left, not run, when the project changes. readjob::placed returns Gone::Project when session.opened differs from the project the run was asked in, so Landed::Ran only arrives for the same project, or for a script that opened one itself. The asked_in check in script_ran matches that. (High confidence.)
opened only changes in cmd/project.rs::reset, which runs after the new project has parsed. A failed open leaves it alone, and a rolled-back command restores the old value. (High confidence.)
Scripts can only start from script(), which is drawn inside script_pane, and start_over_in_another_project is the first line of that function. So a run can't be queued into a new project while the reset is pending. (High confidence.)
The n count is computed before script_project is updated, so the carry-over bug from the earlier thread is gone. The test covers it. (High confidence.)
Security: None. The change is UI state only. It adds no input parsing, file access or I/O.
Performance: None. The reset is one field comparison per frame.
Quality:
Reopening the same project also clears the pane, because reset bumps opened unconditionally. That matches "another project opened" in the code, but the PR text says the pane clears "when the open project changes". Consider stating the reopen case in the guide, or confirm it is intended. (Low confidence, 35%.)
docs/user-guide/analysis.md, the reflowed Script paragraph: the line beginning "the first line of any other kind" is much shorter than its neighbours, so the paragraph wraps raggedly. Reflow it. This is a style point, so it can wait for the release quality pass. (Nit, high confidence.)
AGENTS.md: No violations found.
No unwrap, expect or panic in non-test code. The new code uses saturating_add and unwrap_or.
No new user-visible literals, so no tl! wrapping is needed.
No new dependencies.
The guide matches the code.
The tests use unwrap as the existing tests in the file already do.
Prior review threads: four threads on this PR. I did not re-raise any of them.
The stale-description thread is fixed in the PR body.
The run-number carry-over thread is fixed in b7cf5559, and the regression test covers it.
The old-script-runs-in-new-project thread is fixed. The pane now clears at once, and the test presses Run during the wait.
The batched-notice wording thread is answered and left for the release quality pass. I agree with that.
I could not run the test suite or clippy here (no shell). The checks above come from reading the diff against the surrounding source.

Bugs: None found. I traced the new logic against readjob::land, Session::reset and Session::guarded, and against each test scenario in another_project_starts_the_script_pane_blank. The queue pairing in start_script and script_ran stays in step with readjob's FIFO, the Ran/NotRun split matches what placed and leave do, and the script-opened-project case works in both the desktop and synchronous paths. Confidence: high. I did not compile or run the tests, so this rests on reading.
Security: None found. No new input parsing, paths, or external calls.
Performance: None found. start_over_in_another_project runs up to twice a frame and does constant work.
Quality:
script_started is now a bare (u64, Instant, u64) tuple, read by position in script_ran, in the any(...) check, and in the tests. A small struct with named fields would read better. Confidence: medium. Left for the release quality pass.
The new test covers about six scenarios in roughly 65 lines. Splitting it would make failures easier to read. Confidence: low. Left for the release quality pass.
AGENTS.md: No violations found. There are no unwrap, expect or panic calls in non-test code. The only user-visible string is the existing tl!("Running…"). Each left run still reports through leave → notify. The change adds no dependencies and no new file formats.
Observation (not a defect): The script text is now cleared without a notice when another project opens, so typed-but-unrun text is discarded silently. The issue asks for a blank pane, so this is probably intended. Confidence that it needs changing: low. Raise it only if you want the text kept.
Earlier review threads: Five threads were already on this PR, and I left all five alone. The batched-notice thread was withdrawn after the author's reply. The stale-description thread was answered, and the PR body now matches the code. The "Running…" row, the run-number carry-over and the old-script-survives threads are fixed in 20f979f and b7cf555, and the code at those lines matches the fixes.
