Could we handle the reverse cross-package baseline case here? If an external TestValidateErrors is baselined and someone adds an internal canonical TestValidate, neither analysis pass reports it. Internal analysis sees only the new test; external analysis selects the imported canonical test as primary, suppresses it because imported is true, and suppresses the external test through the baseline.
This lets new tests expand existing violations despite the cross-package one-test rule. Please report the conflict on the new internal declaration and add a regression fixture for a baselined external scenario plus a new internal canonical test, including changed-line filtering.

Done. Added reverse cross-package baseline detection that reports on the new internal test declaration, with a baselined-external regression fixture and changed-line position assertions.

Could we verify declaration identity rather than accepting a matching string ID here? An anonymous interface method such as interface{ Run() } gets an empty receiver name, so its symbolID collides with a package-level production func Run(). A test that only invokes a test double through that interface is then incorrectly mapped to the production function and receives naming or duplicate-test diagnostics.
Please retain the originating *types.Func and compare declaration identity, normalizing generic instances with Origin(). A regression fixture with both a production Run function and a test-only anonymous-interface Run call would cover this.

Done. Call resolution now compares normalized types.Func declaration identity via Origin() instead of string symbol IDs, with anonymous-interface and generic-method regression fixtures.

Move existing error, real-world credential, and unsupported log-level scenarios into their canonical top-level test functions. This demonstrates the structure required by TESTING.md without changing test behavior. Signed-off-by: Bryan Cox <brcox@redhat.com> Commit-Message-Assisted-by: Claude (via Claude Code)
Add type-aware mapping for package functions and methods, including external tests and method aliases. Use conservative call-based disambiguation when a test name does not identify one production symbol. Cover split, ambiguous, generated, exception, and integration-style fixtures. Register the analyzer without enabling production lint yet. Signed-off-by: Bryan Cox <brcox@redhat.com> Commit-Message-Assisted-by: Claude (via Claude Code)
Enable testfuncstructure in root and API golangci configs and wire the plugin into API lint targets. Document mapping and exception rules, and baseline existing declarations by exact path and test name. This keeps current debt reviewable while new violations fail and follow-up changes can remove entries incrementally. Signed-off-by: Bryan Cox <brcox@redhat.com> Commit-Message-Assisted-by: Claude (via Claude Code)
Share analysis facts between production and external test packages to exclude generated/test-only declarations and detect split tests across package variants. Use repository set conventions, remove stale baseline entries, and validate that each remaining exception names an existing test. Restore unrelated test consolidations so this branch remains within the analyzer's scope. Signed-off-by: Bryan Cox <brcox@redhat.com> Assisted-by: LLM
Do not use an explicitly suppressed internal scenario as a duplicate witness against an external canonical test. Preserve the distinct legacy-baseline protections and cover both behaviors with regression fixtures. Complete the exact baseline for pre-existing canonical declarations exposed by baselined ambiguous tests. Signed-off-by: Bryan Cox <brcox@redhat.com> Assisted-by: LLM
Exclude explicitly suppressed tests from duplicate accounting while preserving legacy baseline protections and exported suppression metadata. Resolve aliases when checking testing.T parameters, and cover same-package and cross-package exceptions, baselines, and direct/chained aliases with fixtures. Skip the reverse cross-package conflict when the internal canonical test is already baselined. Add regression fixtures for both-baselined cross-package tests and exported methods on unexported receiver types.

What this PR does / why we need it:
Adds the
testfuncstructureanalyzer to machine-enforce theTESTING.mdrule that scenarios for one production function or method belong in one top-level unit test. The analyzer:

Fixes https://redhat.atlassian.net/browse/CNTRLPLANE-4486
Special notes for your reviewer:
The legacy baseline is keyed by exact file and test declaration. It is migration debt and should shrink as follow-up changes consolidate existing tests.
Verification:
make test-lintermake hypershift-lint-allmake lintmake verify-quickand changed-package testsThe local full
make verifyrun reached the CRD schema phase after generation, update, staticcheck, formatting, vet, and parallel checks passed. Its in-worktree CRD invocation was blocked by an unrelated invalid branch entry in the shared local git config; the same CRD comparison passed from clean repository metadata.Checklist:
