What this PR does / why we need it:

When named certificates signed by an external CA are configured for the KAS external endpoint, the CA is not included in the root-ca ConfigMap.
This breaks TLS verification for in-cluster service accounts and external tools (e.g. ArgoCD) connecting to the KAS external endpoint, because kube-root-ca.crt in the guest cluster only contains the HyperShift self-signed root CA.

Fix

  • Add ExtractCACertificatesFromChain() to extract non-leaf CA certs from a PEM chain
  • Update ReconcileRootCAConfigMap() to accept and append named certificate CAs
  • Add getNamedCertificateCAs() to fetch named cert Secrets and extract their CA chains
  • The default case (no named certs) is unchanged

Testing

  • Unit tests for ExtractCACertificatesFromChain (6 cases) and ReconcileRootCAConfigMap (4 cases)

Which issue(s) this PR fixes:

Fixes OCPBUGS-49691

Checklist:

  • Subject and description added to both, commit and PR.
  • Relevant issues have been referenced.
  • This change includes docs.
  • This change includes unit tests.

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • New Features
    • The trusted CA bundle now includes CA certificates from configured named serving certificates, alongside the root CA and observed ingress certificate.
    • CA certificates are collected from the non-leaf certificates in a serving certificate chain. If the chain contains no CA certificates, a separate CA certificate is used when available.
    • Named certificates without a Secret reference are skipped. If a referenced Secret cannot be retrieved, reconciliation reports an error; Secrets without valid CA certificates are omitted from the bundle.

Walkthrough

PKI reconciliation now retrieves configured named-certificate Secrets and passes extracted CA certificates to root CA ConfigMap reconciliation. The controller extracts CA certificates from the tls.crt chain and filters certificates in ca.crt. A Secret lookup failure stops reconciliation before the ConfigMap update. Tests cover certificate filtering, chain extraction, ConfigMap aggregation, and controller behavior.

The fallback test uses distinct leafPEM and rootCAPEM fixtures, but it only checks that the returned CA data is non-empty. A result containing the leaf certificate would therefore pass. A focused assertion against rootCAPEM would improve coverage of the fallback behavior.

Assert both CA certificates in the split-chain case.

The split-chain test checks only that ca.crt is non-empty. It can pass if a regression drops either the intermediate from tls.crt or the root from ca.crt. Add expected CA counts for each successful case. The split-chain case should expect two CA blocks.

Update the table-driven certificate test to specify the expected CA
certificate-block count for each successful case, then count certificate blocks
in each result’s ca.crt and assert the matching count; expect two blocks for the
split-chain case and preserve the existing result-count and non-empty checks.

When named certificates are configured for the KAS external endpoint via
spec.configuration.apiServer.servingCerts.namedCertificates, the CA that
signed those certificates was not included in the root-ca ConfigMap.
This caused TLS verification failures for in-cluster service accounts
and external tools connecting to the KAS external endpoint.

Extract non-leaf CA certificates from named certificate Secret chains
and include them in ReconcileRootCAConfigMap() so they propagate to the
guest cluster's kube-root-ca.crt trust bundle.

Signed-off-by: Borja Clemente <bclement@redhat.com>
Add unit test for the extraction of CAs from the named certificate chain
and the bundling on reconciliation.
