Summary

Wires CI for the etcd data re-encryption e2e tests added in openshift/hypershift#9227 (CNTRLPLANE-4377).

AWS KMS rotation — new dedicated job e2e-v2-aws-kms-reencryption

Needs its own job because AWSKMSKeyRotationTest and AWSKMSConsecutiveKeyRotationTest require a cluster created with --kms-key-arn (the kms-reencryption variant), which is not in the default AWS test matrix.

  • hypershift-aws-create-guests-ref.yaml: declares HYPERSHIFT_ETCD_KMS_KEY_ALIAS so callers pass an alias without embedding a full ARN
  • hypershift-aws-create-guests-commands.sh: forwards the alias as HYPERSHIFT_ETCD_KMS_KEY_ARN; the AWS KMS SDK accepts both full ARNs and alias/<name> identifiers
  • hypershift-aws-run-e2e-v2-chain.yaml: declares E2E_AWS_KMS_KEY_ARN_ALTERNATE so the alternate key flows through to the Ginkgo test binary
  • AWS infrastructure: alias/hypershift-ci (primary) and alias/hypershift-ci-alternate (alternate) already exist in the CI AWS account

AESCBC rotation — added to existing e2e-v2-aws job

AESCBCKeyRotationTest generates its own random 32-byte key at runtime and runs on the existing public cluster (no special cluster setup). The etcd-encryption-reencryption label is added to the public cluster's label filter in aws.go's TestMatrix() in openshift/hypershift#9227, so the test runs automatically as part of the regular AWS job.

Azure KMS rotation — added to existing e2e-v2-azure-self-managed job

AzureKMSKeyRotationTest and AzureKMSConsecutiveKeyRotationTest run on the existing public Azure cluster, which is already created with --encryption-key-id (Azure KMS). The etcd-encryption-reencryption label is added to its label filter in azure.go's TestMatrix() in openshift/hypershift#9227.

  • hypershift-azure-run-e2e-v2-selfmanaged-chain.yaml: declares E2E_AZURE_KMS_KEY_VERSION_ALTERNATE so the alternate key version flows through to the test binary
  • hypershift-azure-e2e-v2-self-managed-workflow.yaml: adds hypershift-write-test-plan step
  • hypershift-azure-create-selfmanaged-guests-commands.sh: reads test-plan.yaml from SHARED_DIR
  • E2E_AZURE_KMS_KEY_VERSION_ALTERNATE added to the existing e2e-v2-azure-self-managed job (pending: alternate key version to be provisioned in the hypershift-ci-jobs-self-managed-azure-e2e Vault collection)

Test plan

  • Rehearse pull-ci-openshift-hypershift-main-e2e-v2-aws-kms-reencryption on this PR once Add e2e tests for etcd data re-encryption after key rotation hypershift#9227 merges and confirm AWSKMSKeyRotationTest and AWSKMSConsecutiveKeyRotationTest pass
  • Confirm AESCBCKeyRotationTest runs as part of the regular e2e-v2-aws job (public cluster, via label filter)
  • Confirm AzureKMSKeyRotationTest and AzureKMSConsecutiveKeyRotationTest run as part of e2e-v2-azure-self-managed once the alternate key version is provisioned
  • Confirm existing e2e-v2-aws and e2e-v2-azure-self-managed jobs are unaffected otherwise

Summary by CodeRabbit

Adds CI coverage in openshift/release for HyperShift etcd data re-encryption tests. The new optional AWS KMS job passes primary and alternate key identifiers and selects the etcd-encryption-reencryption test matrix. The existing AWS job adds AESCBC rotation coverage, and the Azure self-managed job adds KMS rotation coverage while retaining E2E_AZURE_KMS_KEY_VERSION_ALTERNATE.

The Azure workflow removes the custom test-plan write and file-reading steps. It uses the existing job’s default test matrix. Provisioning the alternate Azure key version is still pending.

No test results are reported.

Wires CI for the etcd data re-encryption e2e tests added in
openshift/hypershift#9227 (CNTRLPLANE-4377).

Changes:
- New `e2e-v2-aws-kms-reencryption` presubmit (optional, rehearsable)
that creates a single KMS-encrypted hosted cluster and runs only the
  `etcd-encryption-reencryption` label-filtered tests.
- `hypershift-aws-create-guests-ref.yaml`: add `HYPERSHIFT_ETCD_KMS_KEY_ALIAS`
env var so callers can pass an alias without hardcoding an ARN.
- `hypershift-aws-create-guests-commands.sh`: forward the alias as
`HYPERSHIFT_ETCD_KMS_KEY_ARN` before invoking create-guests; the AWS
KMS SDK accepts both full ARNs and alias identifiers.
- `hypershift-aws-run-e2e-v2-chain.yaml`: declare
`E2E_AWS_KMS_KEY_ARN_ALTERNATE` so the alternate key flows to the
test binary for the rotation tests.

The primary key (`alias/hypershift-ci`) already exists in the CI AWS
account and is used by the v1 e2e suite. The alternate key
(`alias/hypershift-ci-alternate`) must be created in the same account
with the kms-provider IAM role added as a key user on its key policy.

Walkthrough

The CI configuration adds an optional arm64 AWS KMS re-encryption e2e job and key inputs for AWS and Azure e2e steps. The AWS guest-creation step forwards a configured KMS key alias. The Azure job sets the alternate key version to an empty value.

Add the AWS consecutive rotation test.

The aws-kms-reencryption plan selects the re-encryption suite, but RegisterEtcdEncryptionReencryptionTests registers only AWSKMSKeyRotationTest for AWS. The consecutive test in this source is Azure-specific, and no AWSKMSConsecutiveKeyRotationTest symbol exists in the v2 test tree. The job therefore does not exercise the intended AWS consecutive-rotation scenario. Implement and register that test before relying on this plan for the stated coverage.

AESCBC and Azure KMS rotation tests run against the same public cluster
that existing jobs already provision. Drop the dedicated optional jobs for
each and instead let the tests run via the etcd-encryption-reencryption

Azure KMS rotation tests now run via the existing e2e-v2-azure-self-managed
job's default test matrix (etcd-encryption-reencryption label added to the
public cluster in hypershift#9227). No custom TEST_PLAN override is needed,
so remove the hypershift-write-test-plan step from the workflow and the
test-plan.yaml reading from create-guests and run-tests commands.

Keep E2E_AZURE_KMS_KEY_VERSION_ALTERNATE declared in the run chain so the
alternate key version flows from the job env to the test binary.

Drop the dedicated e2e-v2-aws-kms-reencryption optional job and instead
add HYPERSHIFT_ETCD_KMS_KEY_ALIAS and E2E_AWS_KMS_KEY_ARN_ALTERNATE to
the existing e2e-v2-aws job. The kms-reencryption cluster variant is now
part of the regular AWS TestMatrix in hypershift#9227, following the same
pattern as TestCreateCustomCluster in v1 e2e.

Comment: /pj-rehearse list to get an up-to-date list of affected jobs
Comment: /pj-rehearse abort to abort all active rehearsals
Comment: /pj-rehearse network-access-allowed to allow rehearsals of tests that have the restrict_network_access field set to false. This must be executed by an openshift org member who is not the PR author

Once you are satisfied with the results of the rehearsals, comment: /pj-rehearse ack to unblock merge. When the rehearsals-ack label is present on your PR, merge will no longer be blocked by rehearsals.
If you would like the rehearsals-ack label removed, comment: /pj-rehearse reject to re-block merging.
