fix(deps): update zstd crates past the October advisories - #1820
A batch of RUSTSEC advisories dated 2026-10-16 reached the advisory database partway through today, so every supply-chain run since then fails. Nothing in the lockfile changed; cargo audit fetches the database at run time. Main is affected too, and other open PRs have started failing on it.
Fixed properly:zstd to 0.14.3, zstd-safe to 8.2.0, zstd-sys to 2.1.2, each the patched release its advisory names, plus yoke-derive to 0.8.4 because 0.8.3 was yanked. That clears four of the seven vulnerabilities.
Ignored: the rest reach the graph only through the vendored Pingora fork, where quixotic-plecostomus-header-serde pins zstd 0.13. Their fixes are zstd >= 0.14.3 and zstd-safe >= 8.2.0, both semver-incompatible with what the fork allows, so no resolution of this lockfile can reach them. Praxis core's main carries the same versions. cargo audit needs three entries and cargo deny thirteen, because the two differ on whether informational advisories are errors; both lists share one removal condition, recorded inline.
Worth an explicit call: thirteen ignores is a lot, and these are memory-corruption findings rather than the unmaintained-crate notices already in those files. If you would rather carry the red until the fork moves, dropping the two config hunks keeps the four genuine upgrades. The upstream fix belongs in the Pingora fork and I can file that separately.
cargo deny check and cargo audit exit 0 locally, make test passes, clippy is clean, and both supply-chain jobs pass here.

Chores
Updated security advisory handling for known issues associated with a pinned compression dependency. The advisories remain tracked, and the exceptions are intended to be removed when an updated dependency version is available.
A batch of RUSTSEC advisories published on 2026-10-16 landed in the
advisory database today, so every run of the supply-chain job now fails
on seven vulnerabilities in the zstd family. The lockfile has not
changed; only the database has.
Four of the seven are ours to fix and are updated here: zstd to 0.14.3,
zstd-safe to 8.2.0, zstd-sys to 2.1.2, each of which is the patched
release named by its advisory. yoke-derive moves to 0.8.4 because 0.8.3
was yanked.
The other three reach the graph only through the vendored Pingora fork,
whose quixotic-plecostomus-header-serde pins zstd 0.13. Their fixes are
in zstd 0.14.3 and zstd-safe 8.2.0, both semver-incompatible jumps from
what the fork allows, so no resolution of this lockfile can take them.
Praxis core is in the same position on its own main. They are ignored
with the reasoning recorded alongside them and should be removed once
the fork moves.

The audit and deny configurations now ignore specified RustSec advisories related to zstd dependencies. Comments describe the dependency constraints and when to remove the ignores.
Changes: zstd advisory configuration
Layer / File(s)
Summary
Advisory ignores and dependency notes .cargo/audit.toml, deny.toml
Both files add zstd-related advisory ignores and document the pinned-version constraints. The deny configuration includes additional advisories because cargo-deny reports informational unsound advisories.
praxis-proxy/ai#1812: Adds zstd advisory ignores to the same configuration files and documents the same dependency constraint.

The patched dependency selection is currently protected only by the lockfile, while the advisory is ignored globally. Guard against a downgrade before merging, or explicitly accept that audit blind spot.

The supply chain runs two tools against different config. cargo-audit
reads .cargo/audit.toml and treats the informational "unsound"
advisories as warnings, so three entries were enough for it. cargo-deny
reads deny.toml and errors on those same advisories, so it still failed
on all thirteen.
List them in deny.toml as well, with a note on why that list is the
longer of the two. Both tools now pass locally.

Replacing zstd 0.14.0 let the resolver move
quixotic-plecostomus-core, whose requirement is a bare `^0`, onto the
0.13.3 copy that header-serde's `^0.13.1` pin keeps in the graph. That
is a legal resolution but a silent downgrade onto an unpatched line, so
the lockfile holds it at 0.14.3.
