test(pins): single-source Codex and Claude Code pins - #1827
First of three stacked PRs automating the pinned-client and vLLM bumps. This one cuts the number of sites a bump must touch and closes the existing drift, without adding tooling.
Claude Code has one version. The CPU lane moves from 2.1.267 to the manifest's 2.1.278, which the GPU lane already runs, and now asserts claude --version. The duplicate CLAUDE_CODE_VERSION constant in claude_code_vllm.rs is replaced by CLAUDE_CODE_PINNED_VERSION. The manifest gains a major_series = 2 tripwire.
Codex has a manifest:fixtures/codex-cli/pin.toml and CODEX_PINNED_VERSION. Both Codex jobs in integration.yaml go from about 20 hardcoded 0.144.1 strings to one job-level CODEX_VERSION, and the cache key now hashes the checksum fixture instead of embedding it.
The Codex WebSocket replay fixture is tied to the pinned version, so a Codex bump stays red until the fixture is recorded again against the new build. Renaming the old recording would misstate its provenance.
OpenCode 1.x gets the checksum-fixture test that 2.x and pi already had.
vllm/Containerfile is pinned by tag@digest, matching every other vLLM reference.
Compaction-reserve comments no longer call 2.1.267 the pinned version; they now say the reserve was measured on 2.1.267 and needs re-validating on a bump.
New offline tests (codex_pin.rs, plus additions to claude_code.rs and opencode.rs) hold each manifest, constant, URL, checksum fixture and CI env together.

Walkthrough
The changes centralize Claude Code and Codex CLI version pins across manifests, CI workflows, and integration tests. They add offline checks for pin consistency and checksum fixtures. The vLLM Containerfile now pins its base image by digest.
Changes: CLI Pin Alignment
Layer / File(s)
Summary
Shared CLI pins and manifests tests/integration/tests/suite/harness.rs, tests/integration/fixtures/claude-code-cli/pin.toml, tests/integration/fixtures/codex-cli/pin.toml
The Claude Code pin changes to 2.1.278, and the shared harness adds the Codex pin 0.144.1. The Claude Code manifest adds a major-series setting. The Codex manifest specifies its version, platform, release archive, and expected version output.
CI version wiring .github/workflows/integration.yaml, .github/workflows/vllm-integration.yaml
CI uses version variables in Codex cache, download, checksum, and test paths. The integration workflow checks the Claude Code version against its pin.
Offline tests check pin manifests, release metadata, checksum fixtures, WebSocket recording names, and workflow version references. Claude Code and Codex acceptance tests use shared version constants. The OpenCode suite adds checksum-fixture validation.

- Around line 83-99: Scope the Codex pin assertions to the `codex-http`,
`codex-websocket`, and `vllm-gpu-codex-acceptance` job blocks instead of
counting matches across each workflow file. Scope the Claude pin assertion to
the `test-integration` job’s `Install pinned Claude Code CLI` step, not
`anthropic-sdk`; scoped text checks are sufficient.

and any dependent scenario values only if the new measurement requires it.

Update the Claude CPU fixture alongside the version bump
.github/workflows/integration.yaml:181
Claude Code 2.1.278 skips the preliminary title request that 2.1.267 sent. The unchanged mock backend still returns title_sse first, so the new client treats it as its final answer and exits without executing Bash or completing the task.
First of three changes automating pinned-client bumps. This one cuts the
number of sites a bump must touch and closes the existing drift, with no
new tooling yet.
- Claude Code: move the CPU lane from 2.1.267 to the manifest's 2.1.278,
which the GPU lane already runs, and make the CPU job assert the
installed version. Drop the duplicate constant in claude_code_vllm.rs
in favor of CLAUDE_CODE_PINNED_VERSION, add a major_series tripwire,
and add offline tests tying the manifest, constant, URL, and CI env.
- Codex: add codex-cli/pin.toml and CODEX_PINNED_VERSION. Each Codex CI
job now derives every path, URL, and version check from one job-level
CODEX_VERSION, and the cache key hashes the checksum fixture instead of
embedding it. The WebSocket replay fixture is tied to the pinned
version, so a bump must recapture it. codex_pin.rs enforces it all.
- OpenCode 1.x: add the checksum fixture test 2.x and pi already have.
- vllm/Containerfile: pin the base image by tag@digest, matching every
other vLLM reference.
- Reword compaction-reserve comments that claimed 2.1.267 was pinned to
say where the value was measured.

Address review feedback on praxis-proxy#1827:
- codex_lanes_are_wired_in_ci now requires the pinned CODEX_VERSION once
inside each of codex-http, codex-websocket, and
vllm-gpu-codex-acceptance, so an assignment in an unrelated job can no
longer satisfy a job with the wrong version.
- claude_code_lane_is_wired_in_ci now looks only at the test-integration
job's "Install pinned Claude Code CLI" step.
- Record that the GPU compaction scenario, which already ran 2.1.278,
still self-compacts mid-task with the 15,048-token reserve.

Build the job and step text from line iterators instead of byte-offset
slices, which clippy's string_slice lint rejects.

Claude Code 2.1.277 removed the background Haiku auto-title request from
`claude -p` runs launched outside an SDK or IDE, so the CPU lane's pinned
2.1.278 no longer sends it. The mock backend still pre-seeded a title
response, which the first real coding turn then consumed; the CLI saw no
tool call and exited after a single POST.
Serve the two coding turns first so the mock matches the pinned client's
request sequence.
