What & why

Before: extracting from an archive window (Extract archive, Extract selected, or dragging items out) opened a second window just for the progress bar. With Finder behind, one extraction meant three windows on screen.

Now: the progress bar shows at the bottom of the archive window, above the status bar, and no separate window opens. It is the same row the progress window shows, with the same Details (speed chart) and Cancel.

  • If you close the archive window while its extraction is still running, the extraction carries on, and the separate progress window comes back with its progress bar — as it does today.
  • Finder's actions (Extract Here, Compress…) have no archive window, so they keep using the separate progress window.
  • As in the progress window, an extraction that is over within 0.6 s shows nothing, a finished one stays 1.2 s, and a failed one stays until you close it with its ×.
  • While the bar is shown, the status bar no longer shows its own spinner and Cancel for the same extraction.

For review: every job still goes through ExtractionProgressCenter, so the quit warning still counts them all. A job now carries the id of the window that started it (ExtractionJob.shownIn); the center knows which windows are open (windowOpened / windowClosed), and the progress window shows only the jobs no open window shows (windowlessJobs). No new strings.

Part of #350.

How it was verified

  • Tests (ExtractionProgressTests): a window's jobs stay in that window and the progress window gets the rest; a job still running when its window closes goes back to the progress window, while the finished ones go away with the window; a failed job stays until it is dismissed; a running job can't be dismissed; a window's extractions carry its id, Finder's don't.
  • CI, run locally: swift test --package-path Modules passes, all 657 tests; unsigned Release (MacPacker) and Release Store (MacPacker Store) builds, both universal, pass scripts/check-architectures.sh.
  • Tried in a Debug build: a large extraction from the window shows the bar at its bottom and no progress window; Details, Cancel and a failure's × work; closing the window mid-extraction brings the progress window back with the bar; Finder's Extract Here still uses the progress window.

Screenshots — before: an extraction from the archive window, with the separate progress window; after: the same extraction, with the bar at the bottom of the window.

Before — the archive window, and the separate progress window for the same extraction:

  • Verification evidence is included above
  • Changelog items written out above: 1.1.0 is released, so they wait for a new version block in Config/products/macpacker.json

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • New Features
    • Extraction progress appears in the archive window where the extraction started, with controls to cancel or dismiss jobs.
    • Failed extractions remain visible until dismissed; completed jobs briefly remain visible.
    • The separate progress window shows jobs not displayed in an open archive window, including ongoing jobs whose archive window has closed.
    • Archive windows display up to three progress rows at a time, with scrolling for additional jobs.

📝 Walkthrough

Extraction jobs now carry archive-window ownership. The progress center routes jobs to archive-window progress views or the progress window based on whether their associated window is open. Archive-window views provide job status, cancellation, and dismissal controls.

Changes: Archive Extraction Progress

Layer / File(s) Summary
Track extraction jobs by archive window
Modules/Sources/Core/ArchiveState.swift, Modules/Sources/Core/Extraction/ExtractionProgressCenter.swift, MacPacker/Features/ArchiveWindow/ArchiveWindowManager.swift, Modules/Tests/CoreTests/ExtractionProgressTests.swift
Archive windows receive UUIDs, and extraction jobs record their associated window. The progress center tracks open windows, selects jobs by window, and exposes jobs from closed or unassigned windows to the progress window. Tests cover job ownership, window closing, and dismissal.
Show progress in the archive window
MacPacker/Features/ArchiveContentViewer/ContentView.swift, MacPacker/Features/ExtractionProgress/WindowExtractionProgressView.swift, MacPacker/Features/ExtractionProgress/ExtractionProgressView.swift, MacPacker/Features/StatusBar/StatusBarView.swift, Config/products/macpacker.json
ContentView adds window-scoped progress. The view displays, cancels, and dismisses jobs. StatusBarView suppresses busy controls when the window has an unfinished extraction. The changelog records the feature.
Show jobs in the progress window
MacPacker/Features/ExtractionProgress/ExtractionProgressView.swift, MacPacker/Features/ExtractionProgress/ExtractionProgressWindowController.swift
The progress window uses the filtered windowless job list. Its controller observes job and open-window changes and waits for an unfinished windowless job before showing.

Before: a bar appeared once its extraction had run 0.6 s, but the wait
started over whenever another extraction in the same window began.
Extractions started less than 0.6 s apart could keep an earlier one's
bar, and its Cancel, hidden.

Now: each bar is timed from its own extraction's start
(ExtractionJob.startedAt), so one starting later never holds back one
that is already running.
Before: this pull request added its changelog items to the 1.1.0 block
of Config/products/macpacker.json. 1.1.0 was released on 19 October, so
that block takes no new items.

Now: macpacker.json is as on main. The full items are in the pull
request description, for a new version block, as AGENTS.md asks.
