Summary

  • Keep static capability guidance in the workflow tool description instead of appending a tutorial on every turn.
  • Announce session-mode changes after the real user message; reuse unchanged state and preserve per-turn opt-in.
  • Reconcile mode reminders after context removal, compaction, branch changes, or an in-flight toggle without accumulating fallback entries in stored history.

Validation

  • 142 workflow, prompt, capability, and command-help tests passed.
  • 70 welcome, footer, and interactive UI tests passed.
  • Provider-boundary tests cover message ordering, reminder counts, compaction, and streaming revocation.
  • Repository checks: pnpm check.

Keep capability guidance in the workflow tool description instead of appending a tutorial to every user turn. Announce session-mode transitions after real user input and reuse the last runtime-authored state in the active context. Preserve per-turn opt-in and reconcile missing or changed mode state before provider requests.

Cover provider-visible message order, unchanged turns, mode toggles, compaction, restricted profiles, and streaming revocation.

CI note: the failing test is apps/cli/test/runtime-context-overrides.test.ts:51. The baseline main commit bd42141 also fails the same assertion with the same extra [retry] enabled = true config content: https://github.com/stepfun-ai/Step-Code/actions/runs/38110403288/job/114384626812 . PR run: https://github.com/stepfun-ai/Step-Code/actions/runs/38129560646/job/114440867816 . This failure predates the reminder changes.

Explain unavailable workflow tools for per-turn requests and make standing consent conditional on the current tool profile. Cover restricted per-turn requests and changing tool availability without repeated state notices.
Skip the native retry setter when automatic permission mode finds retry already enabled. This prevents startup from adding a redundant retry section to config.toml and preserves runtime-only CLI overrides.
