> If you have existing tests in QTest and want to migrate to Testomat.io, you can easily import them using the CSV Import feature.
Export your tests in QTest to a file and import that file into Testomat.io. Your project will keep the same structure, as it was. Each test will keep its steps and expected results.

## How to Import Tests from QTest to Testomat.io
## Export QTest file

1. If you're creating a brand new project, the **Import from Spreadsheet** button will be available under the Test tab.
1. Open your QTest project.
2. Export your test cases as a **CSV** file.
3. Save it on your computer.## Import your Qase file

![image Import from Spreadsheet button](./images/import_from_spreadsheet_button.png)
Start importing your tests to Testomat.io:

2. If you're working in an existing project, open it in Testomat.io.
3. Click on the **Imports** tab.
4. Click the Import from CSV button.
1. Open your project and go to the **Tests** tab.
2. Click the (`…`) menu.
3. Choose **Import from other TMS**.

![image Import from CSV button](./images/import_from_csv_button.png)
![Tests tab with the extra menu](./images/att1_436.png)

5. From the dropdown menu, choose **QTest**.
6. Select the XLS file containing your exported QTest tests.
7. Click the **Create** button to complete the import.
In the **Imports** window:

![image Import from QTest XLS](./images/qTest_xls.png)
1. Click **Import**.
2. Choose **Import from CSV**. A sidebar opens on the right.
3. Choose **QTest** from the dropdown.
4. Click **Choose file**, select your exported CSV.
5. Click **Create**.

## Example Files For Import
![image Import from Spreadsheet button](./images/att2_436_qtest.png)

Below is a sample of the supported format:
Testomat.io reads the file, and your tests appear on the **Tests** page.

[QTest](https://testomatio-artifacts.ams3.cdn.digitaloceanspaces.com/documentation/qtest.xls)
## For BDD scenarios

![image Import from QTest XLS](./images/qtest_sample.png)
QTest is one of only two sources that can be converted on the way in. If your project is a BDD project, an **Import as BDD** checkbox appears in the sidebar. Tick it, and every row becomes a scenario:

- Precondition becomes **Given**
- Step becomes **When**
- Expected Result becomes **Then**

![Export from QTest, upload the file, then choose whether to import as BDD](./images/qtest-import-flow.png)

Your tests are saved as feature files. Leave the checkbox clear and they arrive as classic test cases instead. Full details are in [Import from CSV/XLSX](https://docs.testomat.io/project/import-export/import/import-tests-from-csv-xlsx).

:::note

Not sure your export looks right? Download the [sample file](https://testomatio-artifacts.ams3.cdn.digitaloceanspaces.com/documentation/qtest.xls) and compare the first row with yours.

:::

## If this doesn't work

* **The import fails.** Check that the first row of your file holds column names.
* **Your folders are flat.** Make sure you picked **QTest** in the dropdown, not another format.
* **The BDD checkbox is missing.** It only appears in BDD projects. Check your project type first.
* **Something is still off.** Contact [support](https://docs.testomat.io/support) with your file attached.

## Next steps

* [Import from CSV/XLSX](https://docs.testomat.io/project/import-export/import/import-tests-from-csv-xlsx) - the column reference and every other supported format.
* [BDD Test Case Editor](https://docs.testomat.io/project/tests/bdd-test-case-editor) - work with the scenarios once they are imported.
* [Labels and Custom Fields](https://docs.testomat.io/advanced/tags-labels/labels-and-custom-fields) - organize your imported tests by priority, type, or any QTest field.

> If you have existing tests in TestRail and wish to migrate to Testomat.io, this guide will walk you through the process of importing your tests into Testomat.io.
There are three ways to bring your tests from TestRail into Testomat.io. Pick one by the size of your project and whether you need attachments. [Migration from TestRail](https://docs.testomat.io/tutorials/migration-from-testrail) walks through the whole move step by step.

Currently, Testomat.io supports three methods for exporting tests from TestRail
| Method | Best for | Attachments |
| --- | --- | --- |
| **CSV file** | Simple import | No |
| **Built-in UI tool** | Up to 1000 tests | No |
| **Migration script** | Projects over 1000 tests | Yes |

- Import via CSV
- Built-in UI tool (via API)
- API migration script
## Start the import process

## How to Import Tests from CSV
The importing beggins on the **Imports** window. Thus, you need to go there first.

> Use CSV Import for quick imports without attachments. It’s ideal for straightforward migrations, especially when you don’t need to include test attachments or extra metadata.
1. Open your project and go to the **Tests** tab.
2. Click the (`…`) menu and choose **Import from other TMS**.
3. Click **Import**, then choose **Import From TestRail**.

1. Navigate to your project in Testomat.io.
2. Click on the **Imports** tab.
3. Select the **Import From TestRail** button.

![image Import from TestRail button](./images/import_from_testrail_button.png)
From here, you have three options. Please, choose the best for your project:
- Import Tests from CSV.
- Import via TestRail API.
- Import with the migration script.

4. Click on the **Import tests from CSV file** link.
## Import from CSV

Next, on the **Imports** window:

5. From the dropdown menu, choose **TestRail**.
6. Select the CSV file containing your exported TestRail tests.
7. Click the **Create** button to complete the import.

## Import via TestRail API

This method pulls your tests straight from TestRail through its API, so there is no file to export.

## Import TestRail Project via Build-in UI Tool (via API)
:::note

>If you have a small or medium-sized TestRail project (up to 1000 tests) that you'd like to import into Testomat.io, you can easily use our intuitive built-in UI tool, which imports tests via the API.
Before you start, turn on the API in TestRail:

1. Navigate to your project in Testomat.io.
2. Click on the **Imports** tab.
3. Select the **Import From TestRail** button.
4. Enter your valid TestRail credentials in the provided fields.
5. Click the **Import Tests** button to begin the import process.
1. Go to **Administration**
2. Click **Site Settings**.
3. Toggle **API**.

![image Import from Testrail via API](./images/import_testrail_project_via_API.png)
:::

> Make sure that you have enabled API in the administration area in TestRail under Administration > Site Settings > API.
Next, in the **Imports** tab in Testomat.io:

## Import TestRail Project via API Migration Script
1. Enter your TestRail API credentials.
2. Click **Import Tests**.

>Use the API Migration Script when migrating large TestRail projects (more than 1000 tests) that include attachments or require more customization than the built-in UI tool can handle. This method is ideal for transferring extensive datasets, ensuring that all test cases, including attachments, are accurately imported into Testomat.io.
![Import from Testrail via API](./images/import-from-testrail.png)

1. Navigate to your project in Testomat.io.
2. Click on the **Imports** tab.
3. Select the **Import From TestRail** button.
4. Click on the **Import Locally** link to access the [migration script instructions](https://github.com/testomatio/migrate-testrail).
Your tests are pulled across and appear on the **Tests** page.

## Import with the migration script

![image Import from Testrail via API](./images/testrail_migration_script_link.png)
This option suits for projects over 1000 tests, or when you need to attach files to your tests from TestRail.

1. Click **Import Locally**.
2. Follow the [migration script instructions](https://github.com/testomatio/migrate-testrail).

![image Import from Testrail via API](./images/testrail_migration_script_link.png)

## If this doesn't work

* **The UI tool cannot connect.** Check that the API is enabled in TestRail.
* **The CSV import fails.** Check that the first row of your file holds column names.
* **Attachments are missing.** CSV and the UI tool do not carry attachments. Use the migration script instead.
