works/andsystems/as a whole. https://textrefs.org/reg/Citation system
Many. This issue is a candidate list, not a change to any one record.
What is wrong or missing?
The registry holds twelve works and ten citation systems. The ROADMAP plans to "grow the
registry with more canonical examples across theology, classics, philosophy, law, and other
citation traditions."
This issue archives a survey of candidates for that growth. It replaces two working documents
that were sitting untracked in this repository and are now deleted. It exists so the material
is reviewable and linkable rather than sitting in someone's working tree.
Read the tables as leads, not as findings. Both source documents were LLM-generated, and
their sourcing is uneven:
URL scheme, and a Reddit thread for CBETA. Those are not usable.
Verification since has already overturned two of the survey's headline recommendations, both
of which looked obviously right on paper:
edition Scaife hosts is cited by book and chapter, and Scaife silently returns the last
chunk of a work for any passage it cannot parse. A resolver built from the survey's advice
would have sent every Republic reference to Book X, at HTTP 200.
fitness as a resolver. Bergen addresses Nachlass sigla, never published propositions or
sections.
That is the standing lesson for everything below: a resolver returning HTTP 200 is not
evidence. Always test an invalid locator as a control.
Suggested correction or new value
Work the candidates through the child issues. Order follows the survey's three waves.
alternative_labelsonworks/*.yamlNot yet opened as issues. First-wave reference spaces from the second document, which it
describes as near-automatically importable because a deterministic relation already exists
between canonical locator and online passage: SHEBANQ/ETCBC for the Hebrew Bible, Sefaria for
rabbinic literature, Chinese Text Project beyond the two works already using it, and the SAT
Daizōkyō database for the Taishō canon. The survey's own closing suggestion was to build a
harvest table of 100–300 work candidates with discipline, citation system, authority, resolver,
example reference and example resolved URL. That remains a reasonable next step, and it is
still unstarted.
Third wave, for discovery only rather than as resolvers: GRETIL and SARIT for Indic material.
Evidence and sources
Both tables are reproduced as written, with only the column headers and the discipline names
translated. Cell contents are the survey's own words and are unverified. The class column is
the survey's judgement:

book + chapter + verseGenesis 1:1,Berakhot 14b.2, Kommentar-Refs etc.MN 1,SN 12.23, eigene normierte IDs + PTS mappingsD.41.2.3pr.The second document draws an explicit distinction worth keeping: A does not mean "a good
scholarly website." It means machine-addressable passage resolution was found or is
documented. B means the work and its internal citation structure are well established and
online, but the HTTP resolver is less formalised.
It also separates two things the registry should keep separate, and which TextRefs already
models separately: the scholarly standing of the canonical reference versus the governance
of the resolver provider. SuttaCentral is its example — technically excellent, and
explicit that it has no institutional affiliation.
Rights or licence note
Nothing here enters the registry as data. Licence and access must be established per resolver
when each candidate is actually implemented; several are academic sites with no explicit
licence, which is a
license_url:-only case at best.
