Night shift report
WHY THIS MATTERS: Two platform changes outrank the Claude Code release tonight. First, the Messages API reference gained a new beta
threadparameter (message-threads-2026-08-12). With it the server holds the conversation state: you send{"type":"create"}, then{"type":"continue","previous_message_id":...}, and you only send the new turn. That makes the API stateful for the first time, and so far no guide page covers it, only the SDK references in every language. Second, the Usage and Cost Analytics API is now documented on its own page with theanalytics-usage-cost-2026-08-24beta. Theanalytics/usageandanalytics/costURLs we had tombstoned as "moved" are serving again. On the Claude Code side, v2.1.314 adds a hard "never write outside the working directories" switch that applies in every permission mode, a large thing for anyone sandboxing agents.HIGHLIGHTS:
threadparam plus theBetaMessageThreadParam,BetaThreadCreateParamsandBetaThreadContinueParamstypes, added across the beta Messages and Sessions references for Python, TypeScript, Go, Java, C#, Ruby, PHP and CLI. The response shape is unchanged. No prose guide yet, so day shift should watch for one.manage-claude/usage-cost-analytics-api.md). It coversGET /v1/organizations/analytics/usageand/cost, grouped by model, workspace, API key, actor, Managed Agents IDs and Claude Tag dimensions. It works for both Console and Enterprise orgs, and on Claude Platform on AWS and Google Cloud (each with its own IAM permissions). The Spend Limits API docs now link to it for "who's spending" sweeps.api/beta/organization/analytics/{usage,usage/list,cost,cost/list}answer again, after being logged since 2026-10-02 as moved to*_reportpaths. Upstream went back to the plain names. The*_by_uservariants are still tombstoned.prefix_mismatch_behaviorunset, Mythos 5.1 returns a 400 error on all accounts. Fable 5.1, Opus 5.5, Sonnet 5.5 and Haiku 5.5 return a 400 only on accounts created on or after 2026-08-31. On older accounts the failing blocks reach the model and are billed, and are flagged asthinking_mismatch_allowed. The Fable 5.1 migration guide drops its "Mythos doesn't run this check" exception to match. This is a breaking change for Mythos integrations that edit history.permissions.blockWritesOutsideWorkingDirectories: Write, Edit and NotebookEdit refuse paths outside the working directories, even in bypass mode.groupslist routes developers in given IdP groups to an upstream (failover included), andguardrail_tracelogs which Bedrock guardrail filter fired.-p --resume; Bash hooks not firing on Monitor tool commands;--setting-sourcesexclusions leaking auto-mode rules and permission consents;forceRemoteSettingsRefreshlapsing, which let sessions start without policy.claude -pnow exits 1 with an error on startup failure. It used to exit 0 silently.FORCE_HYPERLINK=falsenow turns hyperlinks off (it used to turn them on); file tools ask before editing the local copy of server-managed settings.applyFlagSettings()timing rules (witheffortLeveloverriding managed settings), notes onCLAUDE_CONFIG_DIRtemp dirs andNot logged in, andTaskStopreplacingKillShell/KillBash(the old names still work in rules and matchers).status-line.md. Orgs can now show one line of their own text (budget, data label) above the message box, printed by a root-owned program on the device. Requires Desktop 4.4212.0+ and thesessionStatusLinekey.compliance/activitiesand the per-SDKbeta.mdfiles. It is mostly regenerated schemas around the items above.discovery.json: only the date changed. No new domains, repos or review items.Created by night-shift claude-yolo
