The nightly Contribute Markers task swallowed every per-item submission error: a failed SubmitMarker call only incremented an in-memory counter, with no log line anywhere in the call path, and Execute always returned nil once the file loop finished — so a run that failed all 11,045 candidates still reported task status "completed" with an empty error. Log the submission error where it happens (ContributionService.contributeSegment) so an operator has something to diagnose against, and give the service's logger a "markers.contribute" component tag consistent with the rest of the codebase. Have the task return an error when every attempted submission failed so the run surfaces as failed rather than completed.

…l failure Log a provider submission error through logredact.SanitizeURLError so a request URL quoted in it cannot carry credentials into the log. The contribute task only fails a run as "all attempts failed" when the provider answered nothing but errors: a run that also saw skipped (already submitted) or invalid outcomes made progress and still reports its counts without failing. logredact.SanitizeURLError only rewrites *url.Error chains, and marker submission errors are usually plugin/gRPC status text (SubmissionInvalidError, plugin errors). Log submissionErrorText instead: URL errors are sanitized structurally, then every http(s) URL left in the text goes through logredact.SanitizeURL, dropping its query, fragment and userinfo. Same change as the ops log: match the whole non-space run so a URL with a quote or angle bracket before its query cannot keep its credentials. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
The raw provider error text still reached the contribution row, the outcome's Reason and, through it, the contribute task's returned error. Build the message with submissionErrorText where the error is handled so every sink gets the sanitized text. The regression test no longer echoes the values it checks for. Embedding credential-shaped literals ("tk9zz") as string fixtures in Go source violates Rule 2, since committed values persist in version control, secret scanners, and CI logs. Generate the value at test runtime via crypto/rand or use an obvious placeholder such as "FAKE_FIXTURE_SECRET", then assert its absence from the sanitized output to still exercise the masking behavior. The newly added row in TestSubmissionErrorTextMasksSecretsOutsideHTTPURLs hardcodes a credential-shaped literal "fakefixture" at line 41, which joins the pre-existing "FAKEfixture" and "fake-fixture" fixtures committed to version control and exposed to secret scanners, CI logs, and code-search tooling. Generate the fixture value at test runtime with a crypto/rand hex string or a clearly non-credential placeholder, then assert its absence from the sanitized output to preserve masking coverage. The submission-error-text test suite commits credential-shaped fixture values as Go string literals, persisting anything resembling a bearer/basic token into git history, secret-scanner indexes, CI logs, and code-search tooling. Build the fixture at test runtime (e.g. a crypto/rand hex string) or use an unmistakable non-credential placeholder such as "FAKE_FIXTURE_SECRET", then assert the sanitized output does not contain it so masking coverage is unchanged. AI disclosure: Reviewed by gpt-6.1-sol in T3 Code using the Codex provider.
gRPC renders a plugin's status as "desc = api_key=...". The key=value pass matched "desc" with the whole assignment as its value, kept it because "desc" isn't secret, and moved past the nested api_key, so the credential reached the log warning, the audit row and the returned reason. A non-secret pair's value is now scanned again for assignments. Reported by Quick104 on Silo-Server#915. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>

The key=value pass stopped a value at its first space and didn't read single quotes, so api_key='secret' kept its value and password="first second" kept everything after the first word. A secret's single- or double-quoted value is now masked whole first, quotes kept, and an unterminated quote masks to the end. Other quoted pairs still go through the unquoted pass, which looks inside their values. Reported by silo-kody on Silo-Server#915. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>

The quoted pass consumed a non-secret pair's quoted value whole, and the unquoted pass only saw it up to the first inner quote, so desc="api_key='...' rejected" kept the secret. The value is now scanned in place, quotes and surrounding text kept. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>

Reviewed head: Both verified findings remain fixed in The normal merge from main Accepted evidence is retained with its original identity: the sandbox at Validated features: no affected passed case found in readable validation records. The accepted read-only Fit: 9/10 · Readiness: 8/10 — conditional. The marker fixes and base integration are verified. Current-head CI is green. Main split the contribution loop into a pass per marker kind (Silo-Server#1822). The 'every attempt failed' check moves to Execute, after every kind has run, so a run fails only when no kind got a provider answer. Imports from both sides are kept. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
Main's Silo-Server#2817 removed four contribute-markers tests (invalid and conflict counts, and the two retry-counting cases). Take that removal, and keep this branch's three tests: the all-failed run, failures mixed with skips, and the resolver error text, with the imports they use. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
Problem
Contribute Markers can fail every submission yet finish as completed without a useful application log. This change reports an all-failed run as failed and records sanitized per-file/provider diagnostics.
Closes #848
Related issue: #848
Validation tasks: changes #1148 C2
Behavior
Runs with successful, skipped, conflict, or invalid outcomes retain their existing completion behavior. Rate-limit handling is unchanged. Native v2 task history still uses its generic error message; detailed reasons belong in administrator diagnostics.
The review fixes keep adjacent JSON fields out of URL parsing, mask escaped credentials, and preserve resolver error text in application logs. Free-form redaction remains best effort for the limitations documented in the helper.
Validation
4cf91893amerges current main without conflicts. The normalized six-file PR delta is identical to the accepted fix, and its tree matches the previously tested CI merge. Current-head CI passed: 16 checks succeeded and four were intentionally skipped. Hosted lint used the refreshed base and reported zero issues.14778e023: its backend was rebuilt from matching source and passed container, database, API health, and frontend checks. Runtime build metadata was unavailable; source hashes and the rebuilt binary were checked directly. No new runtime deployment is claimed for the base refresh.read:project. Readable validation issue records showed no affected passed case; Markers / skip intro & credits — Server #1148 C2 is not yet run. Apple, Android, Jellyfin, and the user manual need no changes for these diagnostics.Evidence
