feat(v2): the approval card reads a connector call as a verb and rows - #2381
Rebased on main; review head 5de046d. Rhea HOLD 5598440568 is fixed with own-key label/verb lookups. Four inherited-label regressions fail before the fix; the helper and configured-i18next approval-card suites now pass 67/67. The CodeRabbit follow-up binds each numbered verb to its required argument, with no cross-field substitution. Dot path segments are never linked, and quoted JSON label arrays preserve boundaries even for commas within a label. Scoped approval CSS presence checks pass 2/2. Frontend typecheck and changed-file lint pass.
Fresh real-component en/zh-CN 1440/390 proof uses controlled local API fixtures, verified loaded IBM Plex fonts, zero page/HTTP errors or POSTs, preserved JSON/controls and no overflow. Existing 33px en / 34px zh consent controls remain a UX-gate residual. This is not a live approval or vendor execution. Details: docs/audits/pr-2381/README.md.
Keep draft. Current-head CI/CodeRabbit and code/security/UX re-gates precede Lily's press. The historical implementation notes below remain for context.
Demo plan must-have 6, and the "small sub-UI for external connectors" Sam asked for. A parked connector call showed the card owner its tool name and the raw canonicalArgs JSON in a <pre> (V2ApprovalCard.tsx). The owner now reads it.
What changes
The action line is a verb with the tool's own name beside it in mono: "Merge pull request Add frontend utility tests #4 · github.merge_pull_request". Covered verbs: merge a PR, create an issue, comment on an issue, close an issue. Any other tool keeps its tool name as the line, as today.
Every pinned argument becomes a labelled row (Signal's row grammar: a bordered list, divider hairlines, mono labels, existing tokens only):
the repository;
the pull request or issue, linked on github.com;
the head commit, shortened to 7 with the full SHA in title and linked to the commit;
then every remaining argument. Known ones get a label, unknown ones show their raw key, a body renders as a literal block, and labels as a list.
Consent-surface rules, in components/toolCallView.ts:
no argument is ever dropped: every key of canonicalArgs lands in a row, with owner and repo sharing one;
links are built only for github.* tools, from validated owner/repo ([A-Za-z0-9_.-]), a positive integer number and a hex SHA, with rel="noopener noreferrer";
rows come from the server-pinned arguments, never from the agent's prose;
a numbered verb with no valid number falls back to the tool name.
The exact JSON stays on the card, one click away in an "Exact arguments" disclosure. Its approval-tool-call test id is unchanged.
Not changed: the owner gate, the fetch, the Approve readiness rule, and the other action types.
Not here: the PR's title. It isn't in canonicalArgs (the merge tool pins pullNumber, headSha, owner, repo), and it's outsider-written text on a consent surface. If wanted, it's a server-side pin as a follow-up.

Proof
Tests:
toolCallView.test.ts, 6 arms: the merge view; no argument dropped; hosted tools keep their name with no links; a literal body; no link from invalid values; github-only links.
One new card arm: the verb, rows, link attributes, the SHA title, and the disclosure still holding the exact JSON.
Card, helper and i18n suites: 49 passed.
Mutations, each killed by an assertion:
unknown keys dropped;
no segment validation;
links for any tool;
SHA not shortened;
number unvalidated in the verb;
no rel on links;
exact JSON removed.
Screenshots at 1200 and 390 (merge in en and zh-CN, create-issue with a body). They're the real component's markup captured from a test render, under the real v2.css and the self-hosted fonts, in Playwright. A pending connector call can't be produced on a live pod for a BYO-path account (§12), so they're not from a live pod. They go to Sam through Cofounder.
One fix came from them: the tool-name chip now wraps as one unit, so a narrow card never splits "Merge pull request" from "Add frontend utility tests #4".
Merge: draft until Sam has seen the screenshots (Signal: nothing is pressed on a description). Then a gate by Rhea, and deploy 3 (Fri ~15:00 PT).
One blocking finding: unknown argument names can crash the consent card or lose their labels.
frontend/src/v2/components/toolCallView.ts:122 reads const labelKey = LABEL_KEYS[key] from an ordinary object. Names inherited from Object.prototype are therefore mistaken for known translation keys. V2ApprovalCard.tsx:242 passes those values to t(row.labelKey).
Measured at this head with the real helper, card, and configured i18next:
A canonical argument named toString produces an inherited function as labelKey. Rendering throws Cannot read properties of undefined (reading 'length'), so the card, its argument disclosure, and its controls do not render inside the test error boundary.
constructor renders with an empty argument label rather than its raw key. The normal unknown key extra is a passing positive control.
Helper/translation checks also reproduce incorrect handling of hasOwnProperty and __proto__.
This is reachable through the current broker, not only a fabricated future vendor schema. Actual callTool with github.create_issue and JSON arguments {"title":"Test","toString":"pinned-not-prose"} parks an approval containing that key: pinConnectionRepository spreads the arguments, while the provider's unknown-key rejection is later, at execution. My broker test mocks grant/storage dependencies and the proposal sink, captures the actual envelope, then a separate real ApprovalAction/MongoMemoryServer test writes and reloads it. The key survives both storage and JSON serialization. Feeding the stored envelope through the card's mocked pending response reproduces the render failure. No vendor call occurred.
Fix direction: make the label table lookup own-key-only (a Map, null-prototype dictionary, or explicit own-property check), so every unrecognized key takes the raw-label path. Add actual card regressions for inherited names, including a normal unknown-key positive control. In a temporary archive only, replacing this lookup with an own-property check made all 60 frontend tests pass (49 existing plus 11 independent helper/translation/card checks); restoring the exact source restores the failures. No production files were edited.
Review scope: complete seven-file diff (+431/-10), surrounding owner-fetch/readiness logic, both locales, CSS, and applicable rubric/checklist read; diff check clean. Existing 49 frontend tests passed. Broker reachability and real Mongo round-trip each passed. All seven changed files restored byte-exact. Live head still matches; CI is 14 successful/two skipped. Screenshot approval is accepted as operator-reported evidence; I did not perform a new browser layout walk or a live approval/vendor execution. This HOLD is independent of the accepted visual design and deploy-3 schedule.
A parked connector call showed its tool name and the raw canonicalArgs
JSON. The owner now reads a verb line ("Merge pull request #4", with the
tool name beside it in mono) and every pinned argument as a labelled row:
the repository, the pull request or issue linked on github.com, the head
commit shortened with the full SHA on hover, then each remaining argument.
No argument is dropped (toolCallView keeps every key), links are built
only from validated owner/repo/number/SHA on github tools, and the exact
JSON stays one click away in a disclosure. The rows follow Signal's row
grammar with existing tokens.
zh-CN went through the zh-cn-ui-localization two-pass + adjudicate review:
头提交 (not 最新提交, which goes stale), 提交信息, 创建 Issue, Issue kept in
English beside PR; and the card's waitingForOwner now says 工作空间 per the
glossary. The glossary rows are commonly-skills#5.

Cofounder at 390: the tool id kept its left margin when it wrapped under
the verb, so it read as indented. The readable action line is now a
wrapping flex row with a column gap, scoped to the connector-call case,
so space appears only between items on one line.

Rhea HOLD 5598440568 is repaired at a609f8d, after rebasing the two original commits onto current main.
Argument labels now read own entries of LABEL_KEYS only. Inherited names take the raw-label path; no argument or exact JSON key is dropped. The verb table uses the same own-key rule.
Before the fix, all four inherited-name helper regressions failed (toString, constructor, hasOwnProperty, proto); extra passed. Afterward the helper and actual approval-card suites pass 40/40, with configured i18next and preserved controls/disclosure.
Frontend typecheck and changed-file lint pass. Rebase locale conflicts retained main's settled execution strings plus this PR's verb/row labels.
Actual rebased component proof in en/zh-CN at 1440/390 is in docs/audits/pr-2381. No horizontal overflow, page errors or POSTs; every own key survives the opened JSON disclosure. These are local controlled API fixtures, not a live vendor execution. The existing 32px en / 34px zh button heights remain visible for UX review.
TASK-536 tracks this repair before TASK-511 under Lily's recorded order. Keep draft; current-head CI/CR and code/security/UX re-gates are pending. Lily owns press.
Current head is 8df215b. It changes only the browser evidence after a609f8d's repair: the local harness originally blocked font files behind the shared dependency symlink. The refreshed captures verify IBM Plex Sans/Mono loaded, with zero HTTP error responses, page errors, POSTs or horizontal overflow. Every own-key label and exact JSON field remains visible. Actual en button height is 33px (not the earlier fallback-font 32px); zh-CN is 34px. This remains an explicit UX gate residual, not a claim of new mobile target-size approval.
The runtime fix and 40 passing helper/card tests remain at a609f8d. Please bind subsequent review/gates to 8df215b. Keep draft.

Add a presence test for the block-value scroll containment.
.v2-approval__arg-value--block bounds its content with max-height: 12em and overflow-y: auto. Frontend layout rules require a presence test for scroll-containment CSS in frontend/src/v2/__tests__/v2-layout-invariants.test.ts, because jsdom does not compute layout. That test file has no assertion for this selector or for either declaration, so removing the containment would not fail the suite.
Add both assertions to the approval-card test near line 1790, using the existing ruleBody helper:

Inline 4370829353: fixed. Merge uses only pullNumber; comment/close use only issueNumber. An invalid required field retains the tool-name fallback even when the other field is valid. Reject unsafe issue and pull-request numbers.

Limit GitHub-specific rows to GitHub tools.
For a hosted connector with owner and repo arguments, this branch combines them into a row labeled “Repository.” The numbered and headSha branches also assign GitHub meanings to those keys for non-GitHub tools. That can misstate what the owner is approving. Apply these special rows only to github.* tools; render other connectors’ keys as separate, raw-labeled rows. Add a non-GitHub fixture with these keys.

Use an unambiguous key for each argument row.
toolCallView can emit both keys: ['owner', 'repo'] and keys: ['owner+repo'] for one canonicalArgs object. The current row.keys.join('+') maps both rows to owner+repo, violating React's sibling-key requirement.
The approval update clears the pending rows rather than reordering them, so the current path does not demonstrate misassociation during that transition. The duplicate key remains an invalid and fragile identity, and can misassociate rows if the list changes. Add a regression test for this argument shape.

Current repair (TASK-536)
A parked connector call showed the card owner its tool name and the raw
canonicalArgsJSON in a<pre>(V2ApprovalCard.tsx). The owner now reads it.What changes
github.merge_pull_request". Covered verbs: merge a PR, create an issue, comment on an issue, close an issue. Any other tool keeps its tool name as the line, as today.titleand linked to the commit;components/toolCallView.ts:canonicalArgslands in a row, with owner and repo sharing one;github.*tools, from validated owner/repo ([A-Za-z0-9_.-]), a positive integer number and a hex SHA, withrel="noopener noreferrer";approval-tool-calltest id is unchanged.canonicalArgs(the merge tool pinspullNumber,headSha,owner,repo), and it's outsider-written text on a consent surface. If wanted, it's a server-side pin as a follow-up.zh-CN
Went through the zh-cn-ui-localization two-pass + adjudicate review:
toolCall.label.headtoolCall.label.commitMessagetoolCall.verb.createIssueaction.createPoduses 创建; 新建 is for "New X" buttonswaitingForOwner(existing)Issue stays English beside PR. The zh sources that say 议题 also say 拉取请求, which the glossary rejects. The new glossary rows are Team-Commonly/commonly-skills#5.
Proof
toolCallView.test.ts, 6 arms: the merge view; no argument dropped; hosted tools keep their name with no links; a literal body; no link from invalid values; github-only links.relon links;v2.cssand the self-hosted fonts, in Playwright. A pending connector call can't be produced on a live pod for a BYO-path account (§12), so they're not from a live pod. They go to Sam through Cofounder.Merge: draft until Sam has seen the screenshots (Signal: nothing is pressed on a description). Then a gate by Rhea, and deploy 3 (Fri ~15:00 PT).
