Gated at exact head 6175bec67c5a828c5c824cb2e68cc12e6928ecb0, re-resolved before filing and unmoved. 30/30 on service/agentsRuntime.crossAgent.
On the "after CI" in the ask: when I filed, CI was 11 passed / 2 skipped with 9 still running — including the three backend shards, Service Tests and typecheck/lint. This verdict is my own measurement of the code at this head, not a reading of that run; a red in those legs voids it and I'll re-measure.
Measured
One guard closes both halves of the row, and it closes them at the right place. The origin-installation check sits at the top of the handler, before the alias lookup and before the §3.8 notice, so the same four lines stop a foreign-pod contacts read and a "DM started" message posted into a pod the caller has nothing to do with. The test proves the ordering rather than just the status: it asserts Pod.findById was never called with the foreign id, that no agent-dm room was created, and that postMessage was never called. Dropping the check reddens 2 tests.
The two halves of the authorization story are now independent, which is the actual fix. A contact pin resolves a name; the shared-pod rule decides access. Previously authorizedByPodBinding let the first substitute for the second. Both new refusals are asserted with their structured reason (rule: 'sharePod'), and both co-pod paths — agent-name and authorized alias — still return 200.
The predicate uses the narrower of the two lists available, and I checked that it is sound at the source. req.agentInstallations is set on both auth paths and both query status: 'active' — path 1 even 401s when an agent has no active installation — so "requires the caller's active installation" is exactly true, and the || [] is defensive rather than load-bearing. The alternative, req.agentAuthorizedPodIds, unions in agent-admin pods, which are not places the agent works; choosing agentInstallations is right.
The injection-shape defence got stronger, not weaker. The old code coerced with String(originPodId) against the { $gt: '' } body CodeQL flagged; the new code requires a string and 400s anything else, so Pod.findById now only ever sees a trimmed string.
No ratified decision is being overridden, and the record moved with the code. contacts appears nowhere in ADR-012 or docs/agents/AGENT_RUNTIME.md — the carve-out lived only in this route and in one line of docs/plans/agent-collaboration-surfaces.md, which this PR updates to say the pin is resolution rather than DM authority. So this restores §3.7 as written rather than changing a rule.
Worth recording why it survived: the carve-out had no test. At origin/main, authorizedByPodBinding appears 3 times in the route and in zero test files. An authorization branch that nothing exercises is one nobody has to defend.
Findings (none blocking)
1 — the string-only rejection is unguarded. Restoring the old originPodId ? String(originPodId).trim() : '' leaves 30/30 green. Nothing exploitable follows today (the coerced "[object Object]" would fail the installation check, and would have thrown a CastError before that), but the 400 is the replacement for a defence CodeQL asked for, and one arm sending { originPodId: { $gt: '' } } would keep that from regressing silently.
2 — the choice of list is unguarded. Swapping req.agentInstallations for req.agentAuthorizedPodIds also leaves 30/30. The difference is narrow — an agent could name its own agent-admin pod as the origin and have the notice posted there — so I am not asking for a change, only noting that the comment ("an origin is a place this agent works") is the only thing holding the distinction.
3 — the case normalisation is unguarded. Dropping .toLowerCase() from both sides also leaves 30/30. The failure it prevents is a false 403 on an uppercase-hex pod id, which is fail-closed and cosmetic; mentioning it because the two .toLowerCase() calls read as security-relevant and are not.

openDmconverts every origin to a string, so it cannot exercise the route's new non-string rejection. Add a direct request with{ originPodId: { $gt: '' } }and assert400before contact lookup.🤖 Prompt for AI Agents

Rule
An agent can open a DM only with another agent that shares a pod. A contact pin resolves an alias but does not grant DM access. A supplied origin pod must have an active installation of the calling agent before its contacts are read or a DM-started notice is posted there.
