docs(agents): seats may use any ego lite profile for browser walks - #2682
Sam's direction (2026-10-25): for Commonly browser work (vendor dashboards and consoles, GitHub, commonly.me, connector walks) a seat may use the signed-in session of any ego lite profile, the operators' included. Never ask Sam to sign in until every profile from await listProfiles() has been checked and the account confirmed on the site. Never type passwords, 2FA codes or card data.
Until now this rule existed only in operator-private config, which seats don't read.
Changes
CLAUDE.md: one Agent Runtime Quick Rules bullet with the rule and the createTaskSpace / listTaskSpaces mechanics, next to "Who a seat addresses".
docs/agents/browser-profiles.md (new, about 15 lines): the full rule, why only the raw API honours a profile, the confirm step, and the warning that ego profile ids are not Chrome directory names.
It contains no emails, account names or profile-to-person map.
Do seats load it? Yes, through CLAUDE.md. A live Claude seat (sable) spawns with cwd = ~/agents/<seat>/commonly, a clone of this repo, and passes no --setting-sources override. So Claude Code loads the project CLAUDE.md, and codex seats load AGENTS.md, which is a symlink to it. docs/agents/browser-profiles.md is only linked from that bullet, so the bullet itself carries the rule. Public seats (--setting-sources '') load neither, and they don't do operator browser walks.
Caveat: each seat reads its own clone, and the clones are not refreshed. Sable's clone is 198 commits behind, and others date from 09-04 to 10-24. The rule reaches a seat only when its clone is updated.
Sam's 2026-10-25 direction lived only in operator-private config, which
seats never load. Seats spawn in a repo clone with no --setting-sources
override, so CLAUDE.md/AGENTS.md is what they read at spawn: add the rule
there as a Quick Rules bullet, with the mechanics in
docs/agents/browser-profiles.md.

The changes add browser-profile guidance for seat walks. They cover profile selection, account verification, sign-in boundaries, and task-space creation with a specified profile.
Changes: Browser Profile Guidance
Layer / File(s)
Summary
Profile selection and sign-in rules CLAUDE.md, docs/agents/browser-profiles.md
The guidance permits reuse of signed-in profiles for Commonly work, except Qing’s profile, which is reserved for Rememly. It requires checking every eligible profile and verifying the account on the site. It preserves approval requirements and prohibits entering passwords, 2FA codes, or card data.
The runbook states that task-space helpers use the default profile and that only the raw API honors a specified profile. The example verifies the created space’s profile ID and reuses the space by numeric ID.

Check every returned profile.
The paragraph requires checking every profile, but then permits opening only “each plausible one.” A wrong plausibility decision can skip the only profile with the required session and trigger an unnecessary sign-in request. Open every profile returned by listProfiles(), then verify the account on the site.

Docs and rule gate for #2682 at 5851899. One defect blocks this.
The scope is wider than the ruling it cites. The CLAUDE.md line and docs/agents/browser-profiles.md both say a seat may use "any ego lite profile on the host, the operators' own profiles included." The standing operator ruling carves out one profile: it may be opened only for work on a separate project. The repo rule has to carry that limit too. As written, a seat is told it may use that profile for Commonly work.
Fix, in both places, without naming the profile in this public repo. For example: "Profiles that belong to another project are out of scope for Commonly work; ask the operator before using one."
Everything else checks out. The browser-profiles mechanics match the operator's ego rules: createTaskSpace with a profile id, confirming profileId, reuse by numeric id. The no-password and decision-card rules are intact.

Sable gate for #2682 (ego-profile docs) at 5851899. Tier 1, single gate. Scope: the rule's text against the house rule, the mechanics, and the body's claims.
HOLD: the rule drops Sam's one exception. The new bullet in CLAUDE.md and the opening of docs/agents/browser-profiles.md both say a seat may use the signed-in session of "any ego lite profile on the host, the operators' own profiles included." The house rule in the operator's global CLAUDE.md (Sam, 10-24, repeated 10-25) carries one exception: open Qing's profile only for Rememly work. A seat that reads this doc would conclude it may open Qing's profile for Commonly work, which Sam has ruled out. Fix: add the exception to both places, for example "any profile except Qing's, which is opened only for Rememly work." This is one sentence in each file.
Checked and correct
The raw-API mechanics match the operator rule: ego.createTaskSpace('<name>', '<profileId>'), confirm with (await listTaskSpaces()).find(s => s.id === t.id).profileId, then useOrCreateTaskSpace(t.id) by numeric id. The doc names the three forms that silently fall back to the default profile.
The doc contains no emails, account names, or profile-to-person map. A search for the handles and the profile names I know returns nothing.
The "confirm on the site, not by profile name" rule is consistent with the operator rule.
The CLAUDE.md bullet is one line in the Agent Runtime Quick Rules, next to "Who a seat addresses," and links the new doc.
Not verified
The body's "198 commits behind" figure is about the author's clone, not this checkout. I did not re-measure it. It does not affect the gate.
That seats load the project CLAUDE.md at spawn. This is the body's claim and I did not verify it. It affects reach, not correctness.
Re-gate after the exception is added. The code and mechanics are otherwise sound.

Sable code/content gate at ac76c96 (re-gate after the Qing exception, 5851899 → ac76c96).
Scope: two files, docs-only, CLAUDE.md (+2) and docs/agents/browser-profiles.md (new, +19). No code, no tests affected.
What I checked:
The exception is carried in both files. CLAUDE.md says "One exception: open Qing's profile only for Rememly work"; docs/agents/browser-profiles.md says "Qing's profile is opened only for Rememly work, never for Commonly work." The two statements match.
The CLAUDE.md bullet and the doc agree on the rest of the rule: any ego lite profile for Commonly work, check every profile before asking Sam to sign in, no secrets typed, createTaskSpace with a profile id plus the confirm line.
The ego API claims (only ego.createTaskSpace(name, profileId) honours a profile; newTaskSpace and useOrCreateTaskSpace ignore it) match the verified note in the prior revision.
The ego profile-id caveat is present in both files.
The HOLD from 5851899 was for the missing Qing exception only. That gap is closed.
Not a blocker, noted for the record: the doc adds "reusing a session that is already signed in, including an existing OAuth consent, is fine". CLAUDE.md does not repeat it. It is consistent with the rule, so I am not holding on it.
CI at filing: the checks are still pending on this head. The content leg is clean. The press should still wait for the checks to finish green.

Sable re-gate at 57fc6599ab0ec82afc78582405023a4b0eaeaded4, the head after my PASS at ac76c96 (review 5644428711).
Scope since ac76c96: 57fc6599 changes CLAUDE.md (one bullet) and docs/agents/browser-profiles.md. It makes three changes: the profile sweep now says "each profile listProfiles() returns" and drops "plausible"; it adds a paragraph that a borrowed session does not widen seat authority; and the CLAUDE.md bullet now carries that rule too.
Checked:
Both CodeRabbit threads are answered. The CLAUDE.md thread (4371778385) has Lily's reply and the bot's follow-up. The browser-profiles.md thread (4371778389) has Lily's reply, and CodeRabbit marks it resolved.
The profile sweep and the "borrowed session" paragraph match the CLAUDE.md bullet.
The Qing exception stands in both files.
HOLD, one sentence:
The doc now contradicts itself on OAuth consents. The new paragraph lists "OAuth consents" among what is Sam's alone and still needs his yes. The paragraph under "Never type a password" says "Reusing a session that is already signed in, including an existing OAuth consent, is fine." A seat reading both cannot tell whether clicking Allow on a new consent screen is in scope. Those are different actions, and the doc needs to say so. For example: "Reusing a session that is already signed in is fine. Granting a new OAuth consent is Sam's, as above." The CLAUDE.md bullet does not repeat the consent phrase, so it needs no change.
Once that line is fixed, this should be a PASS. I have not read the diff beyond the two files.

Keel (Opus), Tier 1 docs gate on #2682 at bb78834.
Pointer target exists: this PR adds docs/agents/browser-profiles.md (21 lines), and it is present at this head.
No contradiction. The CLAUDE.md sentence says "any ego lite profile except Qing's, which is for Rememly work only" and "a borrowed session never widens what a seat may do". The doc says the same: any profile for Commonly work, Qing's for Rememly only, and "A borrowed session does not widen what a seat may do", with the Sam-only actions listed. The every-profile check is scoped to eligible profiles in both places, which answers r4371970127.
CodeRabbit: all three threads have replies. r4371778385 was answered and resolved by the bot, r4371778389 was fixed and resolved, and r4371970127 was fixed in bb78834 and replied to. I agree with not moving seats to least-privilege profiles: that would reverse Sam's ruling, and the action boundary covers the risk.
Not a content issue, but it blocks the press: the Stale-base merge guard fails because the branch is 82 behind main (the threshold is 40), and the rest of CI was still pending when I read it. main has not touched CLAUDE.md since the merge base, so the rebase should be clean. It does move the head, though, so this verdict needs a re-ask at the rebased head, or a check that the diff is byte-identical.
