fix(registry): project daemon-bound seats' connection in the roster (TASK-432) - #2859
TASK-432: Settings showed "Connection status unavailable" for a running wrapper seat.
The Settings control section needs connection on the seat's roster row. The roster attached it only when the install label was wrapper or host: 'byo'. Manage-settings already treats any seat bound to a daemon machine as wrapper. A running daemon-managed seat whose install label was something else therefore got no connection, and the UI fell through to "unavailable".
This PR applies the same machine binding in the roster. The seat now gets its liveness from the machine heartbeat and its runtime key, the same source the BYO card uses. A daemon-bound seat with no signal reads never ("Not connected yet"), not a missing row.
Verification
npx jest __tests__/unit/routes/registry.pod-agents-activity.test.js: 12/12 pass.
Two new tests cover the reported case and the no-signal case. With the fix reverted, both fail.
…TASK-432)
A seat bound to a daemon machine is treated as a wrapper by manage-settings,
but the roster only attached `connection` when the install label was
`wrapper` or `host: 'byo'`. A running daemon-managed seat whose label was
something else carried no connection, so Settings showed "Connection status
unavailable". Use the same machine binding in the roster, so the seat gets
its live signal from the machine heartbeat and the runtime key.
Tests: a daemon-bound seat with a live machine and an active key projects
connected; a daemon-bound seat with no signal projects never, not missing.
With the fix reverted, both fail; with it, the roster suite passes 12/12.

Walkthrough
The pod-agent roster now derives connection status for daemon-bound seats, even when their installation runtime label is not wrapper. It projects those seats as wrapper and uses the prior runtime type as the adapter when needed. Tests cover connected and never-connected states.

Summary
Connection derivation and coverage backend/routes/registry/pod-agents.ts, backend/__tests__/unit/routes/registry.pod-agents-activity.test.js
Seats with botMetadata.machineId now qualify for connection derivation. The roster passes runtimeType: 'wrapper' for those seats and uses the prior runtime type as the adapter when needed. Tests cover a connected seat with a string lastSeenAt and a never-connected seat with lastSeenAt: null.
Team-Commonly/commonly#2517: Added deriveAgentConnection and the roster credential and machine data flow that this change extends to daemon-bound seats.
Team-Commonly/commonly#2577: Expanded roster connection derivation to additional runtime types; this change also qualifies daemon-bound seats.
Team-Commonly/commonly#2795: Resolves shared seat runtime identity before roster payload creation; this change projects daemon-bound seats as wrapper in that payload path.
Merge Risk: Low · up to c3e8f
A narrow class of daemon-bound seats with retained webhook configuration still shows connection status as unavailable instead of reporting its actual state.

Gate on #2859 at 61db2d3 (TASK-432). Source plus a local run. CI was still running when I checked.
What I ran
Fresh npm ci in a worktree at the head, Node 22: registry.pod-agents-activity.test.js 12/12.
Mutant: removed || daemonBound from hasRuntimeConnection. Both new tests fail (2 failed, 10 passed). Restored, 12/12 again.
What I checked
botMetadata.machineId is written only by the agent-binding route (backend/routes/agentBinding.ts, the adopt and bind paths). So the new condition selects machine-bound seats and nothing else in the current code.
The condition sits inside the existing guard, so a seat with no user, no connection signal, or a webhookUrl still returns the payload unchanged.
runtimeType: daemonBound ? 'wrapper' : runtimeType only changes the derivation input for bound seats. The unbound path is the same expression as before.
Non-blocking
A webhook-runtime seat that is also machine-bound, with no webhookUrl, would now be derived as a wrapper. No such seat is in the tests, and I don't know of one in production. If one exists, the derivation would read the machine's credentials and not the webhook's.
The front-end render is outside this diff. Per Dart's note, the live walk comes after deploy.
I gated this from the diff, with no fixture. The front end is unchanged and the change is a backend roster projection. A live walk follows the deploy.
What now works. A daemon-bound seat gets connection, so the Settings Control section shows "Connected" or "Not connected yet" instead of "Connection status unavailable." The copy matches what the BYO card shows.
The defect: the seat gets half the wrapper projection.connection is derived as wrapper, but payload.runtime.runtimeType still reads the legacy harness label (claude-code in both new tests). Two Settings readers key on that field, not on connection:
V2AgentControlSection.tsx:20: canRegenerateMachineKey = runtimeType === 'wrapper' && connected. A connected daemon-bound seat shows "Connected" with no Regenerate action, which every other machine seat has.
V2AgentControlSection.tsx:27: the Reconnect link adds &mode=machine only for wrapper. A stale or revoked daemon-bound seat now shows Reconnect for the first time, and that link opens /v2/agents/byo in listener mode. That page also reads runtime.runtimeType from this roster (V2AgentBYO.tsx:282). The user lands on the listener-token form for an agent their computer's daemon manages, and gets the wrong instructions.
Before this PR, neither path could be reached because the section read "unavailable." This PR exposes both. V2AgentProfile.tsx:407 builds the same link from the same field.
To clear the hold: project the daemon-bound seat as wrapper in the runtime.runtimeType it returns, the way manage-settings already does, or have both readers use the same machine-binding signal. Add one test that asserts the runtime type the roster returns for the daemon-bound case. When the head moves, I'll re-gate the Control section from the diff (connected shows Regenerate; stale shows Reconnect with mode=machine).
…ASK-432)
The UX gate held #2859: the roster gave a daemon-bound seat a `wrapper`
connection, but kept the harness label in runtime.runtimeType. Settings keys
the machine-key action and the Reconnect link on that field, so the seat got
neither. Project runtime.runtimeType as `wrapper` for daemon-bound seats; the
adapter label is left as it was. The test now asserts the projected type.
With the projection removed the test fails; with it, the suite passes 12/12.

I gated this from the diff, with no fixture: the change is a backend roster projection, and the front end is unchanged. A live walk follows the deploy.
The Control section is fixed. A daemon-bound seat now reaches Settings as runtime.runtimeType: 'wrapper':
When it is connected, it shows Regenerate (V2AgentControlSection.tsx:20).
When it is stale or revoked, Reconnect opens /v2/agents/byo?…&reconnect=1&mode=machine (:27). The BYO page's own roster lookup now finds wrapper too (V2AgentBYO.tsx:282), and so do the Your Team Answer link (V2YourTeamPage.tsx:390) and the profile Reconnect link (V2AgentProfile.tsx:407).
That clears the two items from my last hold.
New defect: the chat runtime tag disappears for the seats this PR fixes.useV2PodDetail.ts:579 reads this same roster. V2Thread then builds each agent's mono tag after the message time with runtimeChipLabel(agent.runtime) (V2Thread.tsx:1260).
For a daemon-bound seat with no runtime.adapter, such as your test fixture ({ runtimeType: 'claude-code' }), the tag used to come from RUNTIME_TYPE_CHIP['claude-code'] and read claude. Now the type is wrapper, which has no entry in RUNTIME_TYPE_CHIP (runtimeChip.ts:12), and the adapter is empty. The tag returns null, so it disappears from every message that seat posts. wrappedCli can't stand in for it, because sanitizeRuntimeConfig strips it from the response (helpers.ts:208).
The adapter label stays correct only for seats that already carry runtime.adapter. The seats with legacy labels are the ones this PR exists for, and they are the most likely to lack one. I inferred this from the code and did not render it.
To clear the hold: when you project to wrapper, keep the harness as the adapter. For example, runtime: { ...payload.runtime, runtimeType: 'wrapper', adapter: payload.runtime?.adapter || payload.runtime?.runtimeType }, which makes the tag resolve to ADAPTER_CHIP['claude-code'] = claude. Then assert runtime.adapter in the daemon-bound test. If you'd rather the chip map carry wrapper, that is a front-end change and needs its own render. When the head moves, I'll re-gate from the diff.
…ts (TASK-432)
Projecting runtimeType as `wrapper` dropped the harness name the chat tag
reads. Move the harness into `adapter` (keeping an existing adapter when
present), and assert it in the daemon-bound test.

Agent-Model: claude/claude-haiku-5-5/default
Delta vs a0754c3: pod-agents.ts now sets adapter: payload.runtime.adapter || payload.runtime.runtimeType alongside runtimeType: 'wrapper' on a daemon-bound seat; the test asserts runtime.adapter === 'claude-code'.
Chat tag (my a0754c3 hold): runtimeChipLabel reads adapter before runtimeType, so the fixture seat resolves claude-code → claude through ADAPTER_CHIP. An unmapped adapter returns its own name (e.g. webhook, openclaw), so no daemon-bound seat loses its tag. An existing runtime.adapter is kept.
Control section: unchanged from a0754c3. runtimeType === 'wrapper' still gates Regenerate (V2AgentControlSection.tsx:20) and mode=machine on Reconnect (:27, V2AgentBYO.tsx:282, V2AgentProfile.tsx:407, V2YourTeamPage.tsx:390).
Not rendered: this follows from the code. I did not take a 1440/390 capture.

Re-gate of #2859 at dc59622. This supersedes my PASS at 61db2d3 for the chat-tag line. Source plus a local run. CI was still pending when I checked.
Delta since 61db2d3: for a daemon-bound seat, the roster projects runtime.runtimeType as wrapper and sets runtime.adapter to the existing adapter, or else the old runtimeType. The test asserts runtimeType = wrapper and adapter = claude-code. The change is limited to the seatPayload in pod-agents.ts.
What I ran
Fresh npm ci in a worktree at the head, Node 22: registry.pod-agents-activity.test.js 12/12.
Mutant: adapter drops the fallback to runtimeType, so adapter is only payload.runtime.adapter. The daemon-bound test fails (1 failed, 11 passed). Restored, clean.
Checked
The frontend readers of runtimeType === 'wrapper' (V2AgentSettingsPage, V2AgentControlSection, V2AgentBYO) are the Settings and reconnect paths the PR means to key on.
The readers that name a harness (V2AgentPolicy, V2RuntimeControls, V2AgentRuntimeGrants) read adapter before runtimeType, so they keep naming claude.
I did not find the chat-tag component in this grep. Its rendering is what the live walk after deploy has to confirm.
Non-blocking:payload?.runtime may be undefined, in which case the spread creates a runtime object with only runtimeType and adapter. The projection still reads correctly. The earlier webhook-with-machine-id edge from 61db2d3 still applies.

Keep connection derivation for daemon-bound seats with a webhook URL.
When a daemon-bound seat retains config.runtime.webhookUrl, the condition at backend/routes/registry/pod-agents.ts:404-405 returns seatPayload before deriveAgentConnection runs. Settings then receives no connection row.

… the seat (TASK-432)
The daemon-bound claude-code test used a fresh runtime-key lastUsedAt, so it
would still pass if the route classified the seat as claude-code instead of
wrapper. Aging the key past the 5-minute window makes the machine heartbeat the
only source that can produce connected.

Answering the CodeRabbit thread on registry.pod-agents-activity.test.js:236 (discussion_r4386344452): fixed in c3e8ff7. The runtime key is now aged 10 minutes, past the 5-minute window, and the machine heartbeat stays current, so only machine liveness can make this seat connected. A route that classified the seat as claude-code would now fail the test. Suite 12/12 locally.
The delta from dc59622 to c3e8ff7 is one file, registry.pod-agents-activity.test.js, +2/−1. The runtime key's lastUsedAt is now 10 minutes old instead of new Date(), and a comment says why. No projection, frontend or copy changed, so the chat-tag reading from my dc59622 gate carries.
Measured at c3e8ff7 (Node 22, fresh npm ci in the worktree):
The suite passes 12/12.
Positive control: I also aged the machine's lastSeenAt by 10 minutes. The daemon-bound case then fails with Expected: "connected" / Received: "stale". So the case now proves that machine liveness alone makes the seat connected, which is what the CodeRabbit thread asked for. The edit was reverted and the tree is clean.

Gate review (Sable, tests) at c3e8ff7. The delta since dc59622 is test-only: the connected fixture ages the runtime key's lastUsedAt by 10 minutes.
12/12 pass in registry.pod-agents-activity.test.js.
Mutation: the connection derivation uses the install label instead of wrapper (runtimeType: daemonBound ? 'wrapper' : runtimeType → runtimeType). The aged test fails. The unaged version at dc59622 passes, so the aging is what makes the test catch this.
Mutation: the daemon-bound clause is dropped from hasRuntimeConnection. 2 failures.
Mutation: machineLastSeenAt is passed as null. 2 failures, so only live machine liveness can produce connected.
Read against deriveAgentConnection (services/agentConnectionStateService.ts): for a wrapper, freshness comes from machineLastSeenAt alone, and the runtime key's lastUsedAt does not feed it. The aged key therefore does not change the result of the correct code. It does close the path a mislabelled seat would take.
