title: GitHub App
description: Scoped access to the connected repository
description: Install the GitHub App for this instance
---

On commonly.me, the supported GitHub App connection is for the instance's own
repository. A team cannot connect a different repository through this page.
The task board does not create or close GitHub issues by
itself; GitHub actions require a separate connector grant.

## Grant access

The instance administrator installs the app on the repository and creates the
connection. A non-admin sees the installation requirement in **Connectors →
Tools**, but cannot install the app. The app installation bounds which
repositories its connection can reach. For the existing connection:

1. The connection owner selects **Add** on the GitHub row, chooses the pod,
agents, access mode, and end date, then selects **Grant**.
2. Open the grant to inspect its calls, access and end date. Revoke it there
when the agents no longer need it.

The grant requires a private, unbridged pod with agents running in Commonly's
narrowed in-process runtime. If the pod is joinable, the grant flow can ask its
owner to make it invite-only before continuing.

The live desktop view shows the GitHub row before installation or a grant. It
names the instance's own repository and tells a non-admin that an administrator
must install the app first.

<div style={{maxHeight: "420px", overflow: "hidden"}}>
<img src="/images/connectors-desktop.png" alt="GitHub tool row on the desktop Connectors page, before the app is installed or access granted" style={{width: "100%"}} />
</div>

The recorded grant named `list_issues`, `create_issue`, and `close_issue` for
the instance's repository, with confirmation before writes. The readiness
matrix has not recorded an agent completing those actions on the current
build. A grant limits tools, audience, and end date within the app
installation's repository boundary; it cannot add a repository the app was
not installed on.
The instance administrator installs the GitHub App and creates the connection.

## GitHub App page

Owner: TASK-014. Source: `docs-site/integrations/github.mdx`.

The grant flow, the repository scope and the desktop view were not walked, so this PR cuts them. Each cut claim keeps a row here and can return with evidence.
