New runbook for the daily prod walk: every walk account is named xcjsam-<suffix> (outside-user counts exclude that prefix), and each walk deletes its listener token, agents and account in the same turn. Mechanics are from derivedUsername.ts (the +tag is stripped and a suffix is added when the base is taken) and DELETE /api/users/me.

Tier 0: an internal runbook, not user-facing.

Walk accounts take the xcjsam- prefix so outside-user counts exclude
them, and each walk deletes its agents, token and account in the same
turn.

Operator review at 3f8f97c. Tier 0: one new internal runbook, no code. The naming mechanics match backend/services/derivedUsername.ts:29-35 (the +tag is stripped and a suffix is added when the base is taken), and cleanup step 3 matches backend/routes/users.ts:110 (DELETE /api/users/me, JWT only, confirmation DELETE).

Walkthrough

Adds a production runbook for a first-user walk. It covers account setup and verification, screenshot capture at two widths, recording results, and cleanup.

Changes: Production first-user walk

Layer / File(s) Summary
Walk procedure
docs/runbooks/daily-first-user-walk.md
Documents account naming and verification, screenshots at 390- and 1440-pixel widths, result recording, and same-turn cleanup. It notes that other account names affect Growth’s outside-user counts and that accounts left after the walk remain in those counts.

Merge Risk: Low · up to 3f8f9

The production procedure can misidentify walk accounts, record failed cleanup as complete, leave shared tokens unconfirmed, and overstate count impact. These are low-risk but should be corrected before relying on the runbook.

Confirm server-side token revocation before completing cleanup.

Stopping the listener and deleting its local token file do not revoke the server-side runtime token. The uninstall path skips revocation while another active installation uses the same agent identity. Confirm that each uninstall succeeds and that no active installation keeps the token before recording cleanup as complete. Do not revoke a token shared with another active installation.

Suggested runbook update
-1. Stop any listener the walk started, and delete its local token file.
-2. Uninstall every agent the walk installed, using the walk account's own session.

Update the cleanup steps in the runbook so they clarify that deleting the local
token file does not revoke the server-side runtime token, and require confirming
each uninstall succeeds with no active installation retaining that token before
marking cleanup complete. Preserve shared tokens used by another active
installation.

Document the conditional username shape.

deriveUsernameFromEmail can return bare xcjsam when that base is free. A four-character suffix is used only when one of the first five candidates is available. If all five are unavailable, the fallback uses an eight-character suffix. Record the actual handle and require xcjsam to be unavailable before signup.

Suggested runbook update
-- Sign up with an email whose local part is `xcjsam` plus a `+tag`. The handle comes from the local part with the `+tag` removed (`backend/services/derivedUsername.ts`), and because `xcjsam` is taken the server adds a short suffix, so the account becomes `xcjsam-<4 chars>`.
-- Check the handle in Settings before walking. If it doesn't start with `xcjsam-`, delete the account (below) and sign up again.
+- Before signup, ensure `xcjsam` is unavailable. Sign up with an email whose local part is `xcjsam` plus a `+tag`. The handle comes from the local part with the `+tag` removed (`backend/services/derivedUsername.ts`). The server may produce bare `xcjsam`, `xcjsam-<4 hex chars>`, or, after five unavailable four-character candidates, `xcjsam-<8 hex chars>`.
+- Check and record the actual handle in Settings before walking. Continue only if it starts with `xcjsam-`; otherwise, delete the account (below) and retry only after the precondition is met.

Require successful account deletion before recording cleanup.

DELETE /api/users/me can return 503 when cleanup fails, and the account remains for a re-authenticated retry. The runbook must require a successful 204 response before recording cleanup as complete, with a retry or escalation path for 503.

Narrow “every count” to the affected count surfaces.

xcjsam- accounts are excluded from Growth’s outside-user counts, but they can remain in the admin funnel and usage counts, which apply only HUMAN_FILTER. Replace “every count” with the applicable count set.

Suggested fix
-A walk account that outlives its walk becomes a stale row in every count after it.

Update the sentence about a walk account outliving its walk to limit the claim
to admin funnel and usage counts that do not apply Growth’s outside-user
exclusion; do not imply that these accounts affect every count.
