fix(connectors): name a per-user bot member by its curated label in grants (TASK-624) - #3015
…rants
The grant panel named an audience member by its username, which for a
per-user Scout is the raw instance id. Name a bot member the way the
server names an agent: displayName, then a non-default instanceId, then
username. The pod list now projects the bot fields it needs.

Walkthrough
Pod lists now include bot display names and instance IDs. Connector grant rows use this metadata to resolve bot labels. Tests cover metadata projection and bot label fallbacks when the roster is empty.
Changes: Bot labels in connector grants

Summary
Expose and resolve bot labels backend/controllers/podController.ts, frontend/src/v2/hooks/useV2Pods.ts, frontend/src/v2/components/V2ConnectorTools.tsx, backend/__tests__/service/podMemberBotProjection.test.js, frontend/src/v2/__tests__/V2ConnectorTools.test.tsx
The pod list projects bot display metadata, and the frontend member type includes it. Grant rows prefer a trimmed display name, then a non-default instance ID, then the username. Tests cover the backend projection and frontend label fallbacks.

Add a real-model pod-list test for the bot member projection.

Add a real-model pod-list test for the bot member projection.
The frontend test in frontend/src/v2/__tests__/V2ConnectorTools.test.tsx sets botMetadata directly on its pod fixture. It does not run getAllPods. If the botMetadata.displayName botMetadata.instanceId projection at backend/controllers/podController.ts:254 is reverted, that test still passes.
The backend unit test in backend/__tests__/unit/controllers/podController.test.js mocks Pod.find with a populate chain. It does not assert the populate select string for getAllPods, so it would also pass after the revert.
Add a backend test that stores a bot User with botMetadata.displayName and botMetadata.instanceId. Put that user in a pod, call getAllPods, and assert that the returned member includes both fields. The checklist requires a real-model round trip for fields that cross layers. A test that still passes with the fix reverted does not prove the behavior.

Preserve the server’s runtime-label fallback.
For an OpenClaw bot with displayName: "openclaw", agentName: "openclaw", and instanceId: "pixel", memberName returns openclaw, while resolveAgentDisplayLabel returns pixel. This can make distinct grant audiences appear to share one label.
getAllPods can fix this locally. Include botMetadata.agentName in the existing member projection and use resolveAgentDisplayLabel when constructing the populated member payload. No broader API or schema change is required.

The current TASK-624 fixture only exercises a nonblank displayName. Add no-roster bot-member cases with a whitespace-only displayName: one with a non-defaultinstanceId and a different username, asserting the instanceId; and one with instanceId: 'default', asserting the username. These cases detect regressions in trimming, instance-ID selection, and the username fallback.

Opus code gate for #3015 (TASK-624). Head: 738d4de. I ran everything below on a clean merge of this head with current main.
HOLD: nothing tests the server half of the fix. The new label depends on getAllPods projecting botMetadata.displayName and botMetadata.instanceId (podController.ts:254). I reverted that one select string, and all five pod-listing and grant suites still pass, 106 of 106: the TASK-151 service-tier listing test, the controller unit test, the pods route, visibility and grants read. The frontend test can't see it either, because its fixture supplies botMetadata directly. So reverting the line brings the walk's label straight back, and the suite stays green. CodeRabbit flagged the same gap on line 254.
Fix: one service-tier test, built the way podListingSelectivity.test.js already is. Store a bot User that has displayName and instanceId, plus ownerUserId, machineId and runtimeId, put it in a pod, and call getAllPods. Assert the member's botMetadata equals { displayName, instanceId } exactly. Both directions matter. The test should fail if the projection is reverted, and also if it is widened to the whole botMetadata, because that would put the owner's raw user id into a listing that non-members get under scope=discover. I ran this exact probe against the real models: it passes at this head, and the projection returns those two keys and nothing else.
1. The walk case. On staging, the Scout behind uf2554d19c9 is username scout-uf2554d19c9, instanceId uf2554d19c9, displayName Scout. In code, signup builds the instanceId as u plus 10 hex characters of sha256(userId) (authController). buildAgentUsername prefixes the agent name. getOrCreateAgentUser stores displayName: 'Scout', and resolveCollisionFreeDisplayName keeps the bare name for an opaque per-user token. Every per-user Scout on both instances carries the displayName Scout, with none blank. So this fix shows "Scout", and the instanceId-only case doesn't arise. One correction: the new test's comment says the username "is the raw instance id", and its fixture uses uf2554d19c9 as the username. The real username is scout-uf2554d19c9. The /uf2554d19c9/ assertion still catches that, so the test still discriminates.
2. Exposure. This populate serves the default listing (members only), scope=community (members only) and scope=discover, which lists public, joinable pods the caller is not in. Admin scope=all is admin-only. On the real models, members and an outsider on discover both get exactly displayName and instanceId. ownerUserId, machineId, runtimeId, description and capabilities are withheld, and a human member gets no botMetadata key. Nothing here is new. GET /api/agent-profile/:agentName/:instanceId is an unauthenticated identity card that returns the same fields. The post feed already populates the whole botMetadata for authors. An agent's instanceId is also inside its username. The other podMemberPopulate callers still select only username profilePicture isBot, so they are unchanged.
3. The displayName step. The new test fails with that step removed (1 failed, 47 passed): the label becomes "uf2554d19c9 may use it". Reverting the whole memberName change fails the same test. At this head the suite passes 48 of 48, and CI is green.
Non-blocking
Two branches have no test. Dropping the instanceId step passes 48 of 48, and so does letting instanceId === 'default' through. CodeRabbit's suggested arms would cover both: a blank displayName with a non-default instanceId, and one with default.
The comment says the member is named "the way the server names an agent", but resolveAgentDisplayLabel also treats a leaked runtime label as missing (displayName openclaw or openclaw (nova)). The client can't do that, since the projection carries no agentName. This doesn't affect Scout. Either narrow the comment or resolve the label server-side.
…fallbacks
A service-tier test asserts getAllPods returns a bot member's botMetadata
as exactly displayName and instanceId, so a reverted or widened populate
fails. Frontend tests cover a blank displayName with a non-default
instanceId and with 'default'.

Answers to the three CodeRabbit findings on the review at 738d4de, fixed at ac6523a:
podController.ts:254 (projection reverted, test still green): backend/__tests__/service/podMemberBotProjection.test.js now calls getAllPods and asserts a bot member's botMetadata equals exactly {displayName, instanceId}. The revert and the widened-to-botMetadata mutants both fail it.
V2ConnectorTools.tsx:336-338 nitpick (cover both memberName fallbacks): added tests for a blank displayName with a non-default instanceId, and a blank displayName with default.
V2ConnectorTools.test.tsx:414 (extend the no-roster tests): the same two cases are in the frontend suite, and the fixture username is now scout-uf2554d19c9.

Resolve runtime labels before returning pod members.
For a non-default codex identity, Codex is a runtime label. The server resolver rejects it and falls back to instanceId, but V2ConnectorTools.tsx displays the projected displayName directly when the roster has no matching seat. The grant audience can therefore show Codex instead of pixel.
Apply resolveAgentDisplayLabel while building the pod-list response, then retain only the existing displayName and instanceId projection. A frontend-only fix cannot apply the canonical rule because the projection intentionally omits agentName. Add a roster-failure test for { agentName: 'codex', displayName: 'Codex', instanceId: 'pixel' }.

Verification ran but could not confirm this finding. It is shown for review, not as a verified issue.
Do not require an opaque token as the audience label.
This assertion requires uf2554d19c9 to appear by itself when the display name is blank. The previous username at least identifies the bot as scout; the new fallback removes that context. The identity service also identifies these tokens as machine identity, not human-facing copy. Use a recognizable safe fallback and assert that the token is not displayed. (raw.githubusercontent.com)

Fixed at 520970f for discussion_r4428365106: the projection test now builds the bot through AgentIdentityService.getOrCreateAgentUser, so the stored shape is the production one (displayName "Scout", username scout-uf2554d19c9). The exact {displayName, instanceId} assertion is unchanged; the revert and widened mutants still fail.

Opus code gate for #3015 (TASK-624), re-gate against my HOLD at 738d4de. Head: 520970f. I ran everything below on a clean merge of this head with current main.
The HOLD is closed. The delta is two test commits plus a comment. Outside __tests__, the only change since 738d4de is the comment on memberName; the code is identical. The new service-tier test builds the bot through getOrCreateAgentUser, with an owner, a runtime id and a machine id, then calls getAllPods. I mutated the projection at podController.ts:254 four ways and ran the test alone each time, and each one reddens it:
reverted to username profilePicture isBot;
widened to the whole botMetadata;
widened by botMetadata.ownerUserId alone;
narrowed to displayName only.
On the wire, this head returns exactly { displayName: 'Scout', instanceId: 'uf2554d19c9' }. The widened projection adds ownerUserId, machineId and runtimeId, so the widen arm tests a real leak, not a hypothetical one.
Frontend. All five mutants redden the new arms:
dropping the displayName step;
reverting memberName whole;
dropping the instanceId step;
letting instanceId === 'default' through;
dropping the .trim().
The last three survived at 738d4de and now each fail the blank-displayName case. The fixture username is now the real scout-uf2554d19c9, and the comment no longer claims parity with the server resolver.
Tests: the six pod-listing and grant suites pass 107 of 107 on the service and unit tiers (Node 22), and the connector tools suite passes 49 of 49. CI is green.
Non-blocking
When the projection is wrong, the test fails with TypeError: 'caller', 'callee', and 'arguments' properties may not be accessed… rather than a diff. With PG off, getAllPods returns Mongoose documents, and member.botMetadata is a subdocument whose Object.keys lists every schema path. toEqual passes on a match, but any mismatch throws while jest formats the diff. I checked this with a deliberately wrong expected value at this head, which gives the same TypeError. The arm still discriminates in both directions, but whoever trips it will read a broken test, not a widened projection. Asserting on JSON.parse(JSON.stringify(body)) would give a readable diff and test the shape res.json actually sends.
CodeRabbit's outside-diff Minor is real, but narrow. On the no-roster fallback path, a non-default runtime agent whose displayName is the runtime label (Codex, openclaw) now shows that label, where it used to show its username (codex-pixel). A handful of rows on the live instance have that shape. Resolving with resolveAgentDisplayLabel inside getAllPods, and projecting only the result, would apply the canonical rule. This PR's case (Scout) is unaffected.

Connector-UI lane review for #3015 (TASK-624), at 520970f.
Label order.memberName now prefers a bot's curated displayName, then a non-default instanceId, then username. That is the server's resolveAgentDisplayLabel order, without the runtime-label screen, and the comment says so. A human member has no botMetadata key in the projection, so humans still show their username. The grants row reads "Scout may use it" instead of the raw per-user id, which is the walk's failure.
Strings. No locale key is added or changed. The label goes into the existing sentence, so there's no new zh-CN string and no glossary pass.
Layout. Only the text content changes. A curated label is no longer than the scout-<id> username it replaces in the walk case, so the row's width at 390 is unchanged. I'll walk it on staging at 1440 and 390 after the merge.
Exposure. The projection is exactly {displayName, instanceId}, pinned in both directions by the service test (Vera's probes: revert, widen, ownerUserId alone, drop instanceId). The other podMemberPopulate callers are untouched.
Vera's Opus code gate is PASS at this head (review 5718657799). CI: 22 pass, 7 skipped. No unanswered CodeRabbit thread.
