What

This is a follow-up to #3060 (TASK-333). It adds one test arm and changes no product code.

#3060 merged at 6afc00a as 6f8af2f. Otto's PASS at that head noted a test gap that didn't block the merge. In revokeTaskGrants, each per-grant write repeats the read's guard ({ ...filter, grantId }). Narrowing that write's filter to { grantId } still passed every test. The reason: no test changed a grant's state between the close reading its candidates and writing to them.

The new arm in roomGrantRecord.test.js makes a refused mint's guarded revocation land in that window. It asserts that:

  • the grant keeps the reject's revokedAt;
  • the close writes no grant.revoked line.

Proof

All runs are at this head, on main's product tree.

  • The 5 grant suites pass 56/56: roomGrantRecord, roomGrantService, roomGrantService.connectionRemoval, roomGrantTaskBinding, and tasksApi.taskGrantClose.
  • I mutated roomGrantService.ts:370 from { ...filter, grantId } to { grantId }. roomGrantRecord then has 1 failure out of 12, and the failure is the new arm. I restored the file afterwards and confirmed it by shasum.
  • The diff against main is one file, +20 lines, all in the test.

…nd write (TASK-333)

Otto's gate at 6afc00a found a surviving mutant: narrowing the per-grant
write's filter to { grantId } passed every test. The window is a refused
mint's revocation landing after the close has read its candidates. Without
the revokedAt:null guard, the close overwrites that revocation and names a
grant it didn't revoke.

The new arm runs the reject's write just before the close's write. It
asserts that the grant keeps the reject's revokedAt and that no
grant.revoked line is written. The { grantId } mutant fails it, and only
it. Test-only.

Walkthrough

Adds a race-condition test for task-close grant revocation. The test verifies that an earlier revocation timestamp remains unchanged and that task close does not record a grant.revoked event for the grant.

Test the interleaved revocation
backend/__tests__/unit/services/roomGrantRecord.test.js
The test revokes a grant after task close reads its candidate grants but before its revocation write. It checks that the earlier revokedAt timestamp remains and no grant.revoked record is written.

Nitpick Assert that the refused-mint race arm logs no close error.

Assert that the refused-mint race arm logs no close error.

The grant.revoked absence check also passes when the close fails before it emits a record. onTaskClosed catches every error from revokeTaskGrants and only logs it. A close that throws before emitRecord leaves both assertions satisfied. Spy on console.error and assert that it is not called. The sibling test that expects a logged write failure already uses this pattern.

🧪 Suggested test assertion
   const spy = jest.spyOn(model, 'findOneAndUpdate').mockImplementationOnce(async (...args) => {
     await model.updateOne(
       { grantId: grant.grantId, revokedAt: null },
       { $set: { revokedAt: rejectedAt, revocationReason: 'task.done' } },
     );
     return realFindOneAndUpdate(...args);
   });
+  const logged = jest.spyOn(console, 'error').mockImplementation(() => {});
   await close();
   expect(spy).toHaveBeenCalledTimes(1);
   spy.mockRestore();
+  expect(logged).not.toHaveBeenCalled();
+  logged.mockRestore();
   expect((await model.findOne({ grantId: grant.grantId }).lean()).revokedAt).toEqual(rejectedAt);

In the refused-mint race test, verify that `close()` completes without logging a
caught revocation error: spy on `console.error` before calling `close()`, assert
it was not called, and restore the spy alongside the existing `findOneAndUpdate`
spy. Keep the test’s existing grant-state assertions unchanged.

onTaskClosed catches and logs every revokeTaskGrants error, so an empty
grant.revoked record also follows a close that threw before emitting.
The arm now asserts console.error stayed silent. A throw inserted just
before emitRecord reddens this arm; it passed at 65a3583.

GATE PASS at 2674397 (test-only, roomGrantRecord.test.js +24)

The arm puts the refused mint's guarded write (same filter shape as markMintedGrantRejected) between revokeTaskGrants' candidate read and its per-grant findOneAndUpdate. It then asserts the grant keeps the reject's revokedAt, no grant.revoked line is written, and onTaskClosed logged nothing.

Verified locally at this head:

  • Suite: 12/12.
  • Mutant 1, per-grant filter narrowed to { grantId }: only this arm fails (1 failed, 11 passed).
  • Mutant 2, throw before emitRecord when grantIds is empty: only this arm fails, because of the new console.error assertion.
  • No file outside backend/tests changes against main.

Non-blocking: mutant 2 also passes "a close with no live bound grant writes no grant.revoked", since that arm doesn't assert a clean close. The spy-leak concern I raised earlier is moot because backend jest.config sets restoreMocks: true.
