feat(mcp): commonly_get_ui_card_catalogue returns the card tuple, grammar and examples (TASK-606) - #3112
TASK-606 (D145, catalogue discovery for agents). Adds commonly_get_ui_card_catalogue, a read tool that returns the card revision tuple (catalogId, catalogRev, catalogHash), the envelope shape, the component grammar and three worked examples. Served from the package, no network call, no auth.
commonly_post_message keeps the tuple inline in its payload description, because an existing test requires agents to get the tuple without a lookup. The description now also points at the new tool for the grammar and examples.
Why the copy
commonly-mcp ships to npm and cannot import backend TypeScript, so commonly-mcp/src/ui-card-catalogue.json is a copy of backend/config/uiCardCatalogueRevision.json and uiCardCatalogue.json, plus the examples.
Tests
commonly-mcp/__tests__/ui-card-catalogue.test.mjs: tuple and grammar equal the backend files; envelope and three examples present; no fetch call; post description points at the tool.
backend/__tests__/unit/services/uiCardCatalogueSnapshot.test.js: the copy equals the backend files, and each example passes validateAgentCardPayload.
commonly-mcp/__tests__/tools.test.mjs: tool count 31 to 32.
Local: MCP 73/73, backend snapshot 5/5 and validator 95/95 in the same run.

The native hosted-tool equivalent named in the design note. Follow-up.
…mmar and examples (TASK-606)
Agents copied a catalogue hash from the post tool description and guessed
the grammar. The new read tool serves the revision tuple, the envelope,
the component grammar and three worked examples from a package copy of
the server catalogue. The post tool still names the tuple and now points
at the new tool for the grammar.
Tests: the copy equals backend/config (MCP and backend), and each example
passes validateAgentCardPayload.

Walkthrough
The MCP package now includes a revisioned UI card catalogue and a tool that returns its grammar, envelope shape, and examples. Tests check the catalogue against backend configuration and validate its examples.

Fill the envelope template with the real tuple values.
catalogRev is the number 1 in the top-level result and in the backend. The envelope template shows '<catalogRev>' as a string. validateAgentCardPayload compares envelope.catalogRev !== revision.catalogRev with strict equality. An agent that substitutes "1" as a string gets a 400.
Use the real revision values in the envelope. Keep only source as a placeholder. The agent then copies a payload that the validator accepts.

Keep the post-message tuple synchronized with the catalogue revision.
The current backend tuple and the literal tuple match, so this is not a current stale-hash defect. However, payload.description remains independent of UI_CARD_CATALOGUE.revision, and the test only checks for sha256:. A future revision update can leave the description stale without failing a test.

Read: the tool registry change, the catalogue copy, both test files, and the backend snapshot test.
Checked:
The tool is static: no fetch, no auth, same pattern as commonly_get_started. A test asserts no fetch call.
The copy is the only runtime source; its revision and grammar are asserted equal to backend/config in both the MCP and backend tests, so drift fails CI.
Each of the three examples is accepted by validateAgentCardPayload in the backend test, which uses the real lang-core parser.
The post tool keeps the tuple inline, as an existing test requires, and now points at the new tool for grammar and examples.
Tool count is 32 and updated in tools.test.mjs.
Known gaps, not blocking:
The native hosted-tool equivalent is not in this PR.
If the server catalogue moves ahead of an npm publish, this tool serves the older tuple. The description says so, and a 400 naming the catalogue is the signal.
Version bump is deferred to press, per the row.
Tests: commonly-mcp 73/73; backend uiCardCatalogueSnapshot 5/5 with uiCardValidation in the same run.

Emit a numeric catalogRev in the envelope template.
The catalogue result exposes numeric catalogRev: 1, but the envelope template contains the string '<catalogRev>'. An agent that copies this template into commonly_post_message can send a card that the backend rejects with invalid_ui_card.

Derive the card tuple from UI_CARD_CATALOGUE.revision.
The catalogue tool reads the tuple from UI_CARD_CATALOGUE.revision, but the post-tool description uses independent literals. A future catalogue update can leave the description stale while the current tests still pass: the catalogue test checks only for sha256:, and the other full-tuple test also hardcodes its expected values. Callers following stale guidance can receive 400 invalid_ui_card.

Self-review of #3112 at this head. It replaces the earlier GATE review, whose first line had a wrong full SHA. The review content is unchanged: the tool's static tuple, the catalogue copy checked against backend/config in both test suites, the three examples checked by validateAgentCardPayload, and the post tool pointing at the new tool.
Subagent review of #3112 (TASK-606) at this head, run on the diff at origin/main...HEAD (Sonnet, read-only).
Result: no blockers. The backend snapshot test passes 5/5 and the commonly-mcp suite passes with the VM-modules flag. The grammar copy equals backend/config. The package files list ships the JSON copy.
Findings and how each was handled:
The inline catalogue hash in the post payload description was not checked against the backend. Fixed in 882c5dc: the test now asserts the description contains the backend catalogHash.
The no-network test spies on fetch, which is a weak proof if request() changes transport. Left as is: the tool does not call request(), and the test documents intent.
Example validity is proven in the backend test, not in the MCP test. Documented in the test header.
A bare npx jest does not parse the .mjs tests. Pre-existing, not from this PR.
Security: the tool serves only static, repo-committed JSON with no user input. No trust issue.
