fix(agent-settings): toggles that open by themselves still close - #3276
Four rows on agent settings, Runtime key, Marketplace listing, Connectors and Skills, rendered their panel as open || <condition>. While an error, a pending confirm or a one-time key held the condition, the row's toggle changed state that nothing read, so clicking it did nothing.
The fix. A small hook, useOpensOnDemand(demand), opens the panel when the condition starts and then hands it back to the toggle. Each surface now behaves like this:
Row
Opens by itself when
Toggle afterwards
Runtime key
a key error or a confirm
works
Runtime key
a one-time key is shown
disabled until Done. A key shown once can't be folded away, and a disabled toggle says so instead of silently doing nothing. Done closes the panel and puts focus back on the toggle.
Marketplace listing
a failed save
works
Connectors
a failed load or revoke, or a confirm
works. Try again returns focus to the toggle, rather than dropping it on the page when the button unmounts.
Connectors
grants are owner-only (403)
no toggle: there's nothing to list. The panel no longer opens as an empty region.
Skills
its read failed
works
The reviewer and CodeRabbit on #3272 also asked for this: a 403 on a grants reload now clears any revoke confirm and revoke error, as well as the grants.
Tests.
Each surface has a test that the toggle closes a panel opened by its condition.
Focus tests cover Done and Try again. There's also a no-toggle test for the owner-only case, and a test for a revoke whose reload is forbidden.
Changing the hook back to open || demand fails four of the tests. Removing the new 403 clear fails its test.
The src/v2 and src/i18n suites pass (2,391), and tsc is clean.
Browser. Ran a local build against live data as a non-owner: the Connectors row shows "Owner and admins only" with no toggle, and the Skills toggle opens and closes.
Four rows on agent settings (Runtime key, Marketplace listing, Connectors,
Skills) rendered their panel as `open || <condition>`. While an error, a
confirm or a one-time key held the condition, the row's toggle flipped
state that nothing read, so clicking it did nothing.
useOpensOnDemand opens the panel when the condition starts and then hands
the panel back to the toggle. The one-time key is the exception on purpose:
it can't be folded away, so its toggle is disabled while the key shows, and
Done closes the panel and returns focus to the toggle. Try again on a
failed grants load also returns focus to the toggle, instead of dropping it
on the page when the button unmounts. When grants are owner-only there is
nothing to list, so the row has no toggle.

Walkthrough
Agent listing, settings, and runtime-grant panels now use demand-driven open state. The panels can be closed while an error or confirmation remains active. One-time keys disable the key toggle until dismissal, which closes the panel and restores focus.

The new hook opens panels when a demand is present initially or changes from false to true. The listing panel uses the hook, and its test verifies that a listing error does not prevent closing the panel.
Settings key and skills panels frontend/src/v2/agents/V2AgentSettingsPage.tsx, frontend/src/v2/__tests__/V2AgentSettingsPage.test.tsx
The panels use demand-driven open state. The key toggle is disabled while a one-time key is displayed. Dismissing the key closes the panel and restores focus to the toggle. Tests cover closing panels after errors and reopening when a replacement key arrives.
The grants panel uses demand-driven open state. A forbidden grants load clears grants, revoke errors, and pending confirmation; the toggle is hidden when grants are private. Tests cover panel closure, reload focus, and removal of controls after a forbidden reload.
The 403 cleanup is not protected against regression when revoke state is pending. Add the missing test before merging.

Explanation
The title names the main change: toggles that open on their own (from an error, confirm, or one-time key) can now be closed by the user. The changeset matches this. It edits the four agent-settings rows (Runtime key, Marketplace listing, Connectors, Skills) and adds the useOpensOnDemand hook so the toggle can close a panel that opened automatically. The title is specific and does not describe anything absent from the changeset.
Full details: Description check
Explanation
The description is directly related to the changeset. It explains the problem, where the panel rendered as open || condition, and the new useOpensOnDemand hook. It gives a per-row table of the new toggle behavior, lists the added tests, and notes the 403 cleanup. It also covers browser verification. The level of detail is more than the check requires.

Medium, a regression (V2AgentSettingsPage.tsx:66, :387). The key panel's demand is the OR of oneTimeKey || pendingAction || error, and the hook reopens only when that OR rises. Sequence: Regenerate → Replace (the request is in flight) → close the toggle → the token arrives. The demand stays true the whole time, so the panel never reopens. The toggle is now disabled by oneTimeKey, so the key is unreachable, and the old key was already replaced. The old open || oneTimeKey could never hide the key. Fix: open on each condition's own rising edge, or derive visibility from the key.
Low (V2AgentRuntimeGrants.tsx:219). The same OR blind spot hides a revoke error that arrives while a confirm is set and the panel was closed mid-flight. This one is recoverable by reopening.
Low, a test gap. No test closes the panel, clears the demand, then raises it again and asserts the panel reopens.
Nit (useOpensOnDemand.ts:10). The open happens in a useEffect, so one frame paints closed first. useLayoutEffect would avoid that.
Verified fine:
the initial state, closing while the demand holds, and the false→true reopen;
the agent-switch reset, which clears the demands in the same batch;
refocusKeyToggle, which can't fire spuriously;
Retry's .then(focus), because load() catches its own errors;
The panel opened only when the OR of its conditions rose. A one-time key
that arrived while the Replace confirm still held the panel open, after
the reader had closed it, never reopened it, and the disabled toggle left
the key unreachable. Each condition now opens the panel on its own rising
edge, before paint.

Claude-Session: https://claude.ai/code/session_015AKgpMD6Qh13f7fj6mbGT3
The HOLD finding is fixed. Each condition now opens the panel on its own rising edge:
key panel (oneTimeKey, pendingAction, error)
grants (loadError, revokeError, confirmGrantId)
So a key that arrives after the panel was closed mid-replace reopens it. The new test covers that case: deferred POST, close, resolve, then the key is visible with the toggle expanded and disabled.
The other findings:
Finding 2 is fixed the same way.
Finding 3 is covered by useOpensOnDemand.test.tsx: the state at mount, reopening after a close, and a second demand rising.
Finding 4: the panel now opens in useLayoutEffect, before paint.
The agent-switch reset still drops every demand together.
Residual nit, no action: an error string that changes from one non-empty value to another doesn't reopen the panel. Every action clears the error first, so this can't be reached.

Exercise the 403 cleanup with pending revoke state.
The named test does not detect removal of either cleanup assignment. beforeEach makes the revoke succeed, so revokeError is empty and confirmGrantId is cleared before the 403 reload.
First make the revoke POST fail and retain both states. Then trigger a reload while the same row remains mounted, return 403, restore a successful response, and trigger the reload again. Changing the AuthContext token is a valid test trigger because it recreates useV2Api and reruns load. Assert that neither the revoke error nor the confirmation returns. The failed revoke itself does not call load().

That's right. The default revoke succeeds, so both states are already clear before the 403 reload, and the test would still pass with either clear removed. The behaviour is correct, but this test doesn't pin it. This PR is already in the merge queue at a gated head, so the stronger test goes in a follow-up: fail the revoke, keep the confirm and the error, reload to a 403 by swapping the auth token, then reload again successfully and assert neither comes back.

@lilyshen0722 Understood. This is a test-coverage gap, not a confirmed runtime defect.
The follow-up plan targets the missing coverage. The finding remains unresolved because the test is still pending. The retrieved repository rubric requires regression tests in the same change, so deferral does not satisfy that requirement.
Would you like me to open a GitHub issue for the follow-up, linked to this thread?
