The Preview needs a reproducible path for authors to build extensions independently of the Elsa checkout. This adds a sample generator for a widget and activity-property tab, packaged in an RCL and consumed by a host through NuGet references. It reuses the public SDK/UI/auth/API contexts and includes scoped CSS, read-only behavior, feature enablement and immutable asset versioning guidance.

The integration check generates outside the repository, installs four packed npm artifacts, builds the RCL on net8/net9/net10, packs it, restores a package-only host, and checks contributions, saved custom properties, read-only mode, immutable caching and server feature removal in Chromium. CI runs it after packing the Preview libraries. Template files are project data and add no projects to the root solution or release inventory.

Validation: 128 unit tests; lint; module boundary guard (244 files); external generated-module build/pack/browser check passes with a local 18-package Preview feed. The generated host builds with zero warnings/errors. Registry publication remains #8858; the default registry install requires those packages to be published.

Addresses #8852, part of #8859. Stacked on #8945. This PR does not close the epic or publish packages.

📝 Walkthrough

The pull request adds a React Studio module template and generator, documents third-party module authoring, and adds an end-to-end check that builds and exercises a packaged module using local packages.

Changes: React Studio module authoring

Layer / File(s) Summary
Module template
studio/react/samples/module-template/...
The templates define a host and a multi-targeted module package. The sample client registers a dashboard widget and an activity-properties tab with read-only handling.
Module generation
studio/react/scripts/create-module.mjs, studio/react/src/.../module-template.test.ts
The generator validates names, namespaces, output directories, and semantic versions. It copies templates with token replacement. Tests cover invalid inputs, file preservation, and valid generation.
Packaged module validation
studio/react/package.json, studio/react/scripts/test-module-template.mjs, .github/workflows/...
The test script generates and builds a module from local packages, launches its host, checks browser behavior, and verifies feature removal. The package script and workflow run the test.
Module authoring documentation
studio/react/docs/module-authoring.md, studio/react/README.md, studio/docs/specs/react-studio-preview/plan.md
The documentation covers generation, host setup, contributions, packaging, compatibility, asset handling, and integration evidence.

RetriggerView in GreptileConfidence Score: 5/5

[Low impact] No merge-blocking findings remain; the reported passing test results have not been independently verified in this assessment.

Summary

Adds a standalone module generator with a dashboard widget, an activity notes tab, and a package-only host.

  • Authors can generate a standalone React Studio module and package it for a host.
  • The sample module adds a forecast widget and an editable activity note tab.
  • Authors and CI can follow and check the package-only module path.

Review limits: the previously reviewed commit has a different merge base with the target branch, so the full PR remains the review scope. No numbered previous threads were supplied. The prior review reported that GitHub access was unavailable and that tests and browser checks were not run; this assessment does not independently verify the reported passing checks.

User-authorized self-review for #8859.

APPROVE + HIGH @ 87f97bf

Reviewed the public module generator, CSS/slot/versioning/packaging guide and actual generated-package consumption. Canonical output checks reject the template itself and descendants, including symlink aliases, before writing; all 27 generator tests pass.

The final adaptation source passes 227 unit, 28 hosting and 49 browser tests, lint/types, module-boundary and localization checks, and builds for net8/net9/net10. The final six findings and subsequent expression-alias/index and cached-culture findings were fixed with regression coverage before this merge.

At merge time, current-head CI is green, Greptile is 5/5 on this exact head, and the exhaustive stack thread audit records zero unresolved findings. This is an author self-review under the task owner's explicit standing self-review/self-merge authority, not an independent approval. Use the standard head-matched merge into main without changing protection or using an admin bypass.
