First step of the UI/UX redesign. The direction is "Salle des machines": a dense, legible tool, with meaningful colors and light and dark themes.

What changes

  • Themes: light, dark, or follow the system.

    • The choice is made per user from the account menu, stored in a cookie and applied during SSR, so there is no flash.
    • Every color is now a CSS variable.
  • Colors with meaning:

    • green for upload and seeders;
    • amber for download and leechers;
    • violet for freeleech, the only accent.

    white/black utilities now act as contrast inks that flip with the theme, so existing controls stay legible in light mode until each page is restyled.

  • Fonts: IBM Plex Sans and Plex Mono, used for numbers only, are self-hosted. The CSP (font-src 'self') blocked Google Fonts, so Inter had never loaded and the app was using system fonts.

  • Navigation:

    • a sidebar grouped by intent: Browse, Community, My account, Staff;
    • a top bar with the search, a transfer meter (upload/download split in seed/leech colors, plus the ratio; it turns violet during a freeleech), a freeleech pill and the account menu;
    • the account menu holds a passkey copy button, points, theme and language.
  • Command palette: ⌘K / Ctrl+K or /. It searches torrents live and jumps to pages, with full keyboard support. Enter on a query opens the torrent list filtered by it.

  • Accessibility: a mobile drawer, a skip link, visible focus rings and reduced motion are respected.

  • Fixes:

    • dialog overlays stay dark in light mode;
    • some icons had zero width because an inline class overrode the icon's inline-block (registration warnings, Torznab help).

Pages keep their current layout for now. They are restyled in the next steps:

  • dashboard;
  • torrents;
  • shop, bounties, forum and profile;
  • admin;
  • favicon and README screenshots.

Test plan

  • npx vitest run, npm run build (fonts bundled)
  • Checked in the browser:
    • sidebar, top bar, transfer meter and account menu;
    • command palette (search and keyboard);
    • light and dark themes;
    • the theme persists across navigation and reloads
  • Not verified: mobile width (≤ 1024 px drawer). I could not resize the browser window here.

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • New Features
    • Added a responsive sidebar with role-aware navigation, a user menu, and a command palette for finding pages and torrents.
    • Added a transfer meter showing upload and download totals and ratio, plus a refresh control.
    • Added light, dark, and system theme options across the app, including authentication pages.
    • Added a skip link and keyboard shortcuts for opening search.
  • Style
    • Updated the interface with theme-aware colors, IBM Plex typography, and improved focus, selection, and reduced-motion styling.

- theme tokens as CSS variables: light, dark, or follow the system, chosen
  per user (cookie, applied during SSR so there is no flash)
- meaningful colors: green for upload/seed, amber for download/leech,
  violet for freeleech; contrast inks keep existing controls legible in
  both themes
- self-hosted IBM Plex Sans and Mono (Google Fonts was blocked by the CSP,
  so the app silently fell back to system fonts)
- app shell: grouped sidebar (browse, community, account, staff), top bar
  with a transfer meter, freeleech pill and account menu (passkey copy,
  points, theme, language)
- command palette (Cmd/Ctrl+K or /): search torrents and jump to pages
- mobile navigation drawer, skip link, visible focus, reduced motion
- dialog overlays stay dark in both themes; fix icons collapsed to zero
  width by an inline class

📝 Walkthrough

Walkthrough

The app adds light, system, and dark theme preferences, updates shared styling, and replaces the default navigation and account controls with a responsive shell that includes search and transfer statistics.

Changes

Application shell and theme

Layer / File(s) Summary
Theme preferences and shared styling
app/composables/useTheme.ts, app/app.vue, app/assets/css/main.css, tailwind.config.ts, package.json, app/components/ThemeSwitcher.vue, i18n/locales/en/app.json, i18n/locales/fr/app.json, tests/theme.test.ts
Theme preferences are stored in a cookie and applied to the document. Shared theme tokens, IBM Plex fonts, base styles, translated theme controls, and tests for supported preference values are added.
Theme tokens in existing controls
app/components/EditTorrentModal.vue, app/components/UploadTorrentModal.vue, app/components/admin/*, app/components/admin/TorznabRateLimiting.vue, app/components/admin/TorznabUsers.vue, app/pages/auth/register.vue, app/pages/forum/index.vue, app/pages/torrents/[hash].vue
Existing modal overlays and selected text colors use the shared scrim and paper tokens. Warning and info icons use adjusted inline alignment.
Shell navigation and account controls
app/components/shell/AppSidebar.vue, app/components/shell/CommandPalette.vue, app/components/shell/TransferMeter.vue, app/components/shell/UserMenu.vue
New shell components provide role-aware navigation, command-palette search, transfer statistics, and account controls.
Default layout integration
app/layouts/default.vue
The default layout uses the new shell components and adds a freeleech pill and skip link. Announcement dismissal remains session-scoped, and branding, polling, stats refresh, and logout remain wired in the layout.

Review comments at @app/components/shell/AppSidebar.vue:
- Around line 12-14: Update the drawer visibility classes in AppSidebar’s
open-state binding so a closed mobile drawer is invisible and unfocusable while
remaining visible at the lg breakpoint; keep the open drawer visible. Replace
the aside’s action-oriented shell.menu.open accessible name with the appropriate
navigation landmark label.

Review comments at @app/components/shell/CommandPalette.vue:
- Around line 186-194: Update the `watch(open, ...)` handler to save
`document.activeElement` when the palette opens and restore focus to that
element when it closes. Preserve the existing input-focus behavior on open, and
do not add focus trapping.
- Around line 155-169: Update the debounced query watcher and open-state watcher
in the command palette to track request generations and ignore responses from
superseded requests, while retaining the current-query check. Increment the
generation on palette open and close, clear loading when a short query resets
results and during lifecycle resets, and only let the current request update
results or loading state.

Review comments at @app/components/shell/UserMenu.vue:
- Around line 133-138: Update copyPasskey to catch failures around the full
clipboard operation, including when navigator.clipboard is unavailable, and
return without changing copied.value on failure; show the copied state and start
its reset timer only after writeText succeeds.

Review comments at @app/composables/useTheme.ts:
- Around line 10-15: Validate the cookie value in useTheme before exposing it as
the theme preference. Normalize values outside the supported themes ('system',
'light', and 'dark') to 'system', while preserving writes of valid selections to
the cookie.

Review comments at @tailwind.config.ts:
- Around line 44-47: Update the Panic buttons using bg-error or bg-success to
use text-black instead of text-white, preserving their existing background and
other classes. Locate the affected button class lists by their bg-error and
bg-success utilities.

- closed mobile drawer is invisible so its links leave the tab order;
  the sidebar gets a landmark label instead of an action label
- command palette drops late search answers and resets on close, and
  returns focus to the element that opened it
- passkey copy only shows Copied when the clipboard write succeeds
- account switch clears the previous balance and avatar
- theme cookie is validated, unknown values fall back to system
- fixed colors: paper (white) for text on colored fills and uploaded
  logos, scrim for shadows, so they do not flip with the theme
