Item 338 verified landed via #851; stale branch skipped, no merge to avoid duplicate PR

Opened by opencode on flared:51bb8de6c33b for item #338 via agentflare.

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • New Features
    • Added an optional AI-assisted routing mode that can recommend task-specific models and rerank skills. Existing behavior remains the fallback when the service is disabled, unavailable, or returns an unusable result.
    • Added a typed decision check with a CLI command to test connectivity and review logged results.
    • Added opt-in, observational comparisons between AI recommendations and existing decisions; these do not change the decisions applied.
    • Added model detection from available agent context and session credentials for decision-service requests.
  • Privacy
    • Decision logs store a short input fingerprint and length rather than the input text.

📝 Walkthrough

Walkthrough

The change adds a typed decision client for Jev, credential lookup, and shadow reporting. It adds Jev integrations for optimization routing, skill reranking, and SDD judge comparison. Hook routing contexts also receive a detected agent model.

Changes

Typed Jev decisions and integrations

Layer / File(s) Summary
Decision types, providers, and client
src/decide/types.rs, src/decide/provider.rs, src/decide/client.rs, src/decide/mod.rs, src/vault.rs, src/dev_vars.rs, src/main.rs
Adds typed decision questions and responses, provider request construction and parsing, layered credential lookup, and APIs to execute decisions.
Shadow log and report command
src/decide/shadow.rs, src/cli/decide.rs, src/cli/mod.rs
Adds JSONL decision logging, log rotation, per-site summaries, and decide ping and decide report commands.
Agent model detection and routing context
src/agent_model.rs, src/hook.rs, src/main.rs
Detects a model from hook input, transcript, or Claude configuration. Hook routing contexts use the detected model.
Jev optimization router
src/optimize/jev_router.rs, src/optimize/mod.rs, src/optimize/runtime.rs
Adds Jev classification for eligible prompts, confidence-based nudges, keyword fallback, and shadow records. The runtime maps the jev router name to JevRouter.
Jev skill reranking
src/skill_rerank.rs, src/hook.rs, src/main.rs
Adds optional shadow and apply modes for skill reranking. Hook skill discovery fetches candidates for reranking and provides a baseline.
SDD judge shadow comparison
src/work_item_pipeline/judge_shadow.rs, src/work_item_pipeline/judge_shadow_tests.rs, src/work_item_pipeline.rs
Adds an opt-in detached comparison between the SDD judge action and Jev. The comparison logs outcomes without changing the pipeline’s applied action.

With skill reranking set to apply, the injected skills can exclude better matches or lose skills from the original top three. The shadow judge reports can be skewed. All of these features are opt-in, but fix the reranker selection before relying on apply mode.

841-841: 🚀 Performance & Scalability | 🔵 Trivial | ⚡ Quick win

Detect the model only when the active router uses it.

prompt_submit calls crate::agent_model::detect for every prompt. For each call, detect parses the hook JSON again. It can also open the transcript and read up to 256 KiB of its tail, then fall back to reading ~/.claude/settings.json. Only JevRouter reads current_model. KeywordRouter and LengthBasedRouter ignore it. The default router therefore pays this I/O cost on every turn, inside the hook's latency budget, and gets no benefit. Detect the model lazily, or only when AGENTFLARE_ROUTER=jev.

♻️ Possible approach
-            current_model: crate::agent_model::detect(agent, &input),
+            current_model: (std::env::var("AGENTFLARE_ROUTER").as_deref() == Ok("jev"))
+                .then(|| crate::agent_model::detect(agent, &input))
+                .flatten(),

Preserve baseline skills when Jev is unsure.

If the expanded candidates omit a baseline skill, this filter cannot keep that skill. The test at Lines 275–303 demonstrates such a candidate set. In apply mode, all-0.5 answers then inject skill0,skill1 instead of the original skill0,skill1,skill2. Keep baseline skills that have no Jev answer when constructing uncertain picks.

Select high-confidence skills by Jev probability.

If more than keep candidates pass KEEP_AT, .take(keep) selects the first candidates in the existing ranking. For example, probabilities [0.65, 0.65, 0.65, 0.99] exclude the fourth skill. Rank qualifying candidates by Jev probability before limiting the picks; use the existing ranking to break ties or handle uncertain answers.

Record only accepted judge decisions.

If the judge selects InsertTask without task_model_tier, this call starts a comparison before the loop rejects and retries that decision. The same ordering records a FixRound that exceeds MAX_FIX_ROUNDS. These rows count rejected attempts in the agreement report. Validate these actions before spawning the comparison, or spawn only after the loop accepts the decision.

Include the plan length in the shadow state.

If task 20 is current, a 21-task plan and a 22-task plan can produce the same state: plan contains only tasks 0–19, and current_task contains task 20 in both cases. Jev cannot distinguish the final task from a task with more work remaining. Add the current index and total task count so the complete_pipeline comparison remains meaningful for plans above 20 tasks.

Closing as superseded, third copy of the same branch (see #854, #858). #851 was squash-merged at 06:27Z with the review fixes (54c79c1); these are the same seven commits, conflicting with master. The generating-side fix is merged as #861 (agentflare item #712); the other workstation (flared:51bb8de6c33b) still needs the new build and its stale task/701 branch reset.
