Reading this chart top to bottom shows the engagement funnel — for example, only 17 out of 83 broadcast contacts responded the same day, which is a same-day response rate you could use to gauge broadcast effectiveness. This chart does reflect the Time filter, but note it is not time-grain-bucketed like the trend charts — it's a single snapshot of totals for the selected date range.

## Messages Overview
This tab answers "how many messages are moving through my chatbot, and what type are they?"

<img width="" height="" alt="Messages Overview tab" src="/img/data-analytics/data-analytics_messages_overview.png" />

1. **Messages Exchanged** summarizes total message volume for the selected time range, split by type:

| Inbound | Template Outbound | Service Outbound |
|---|---|---|
| 3,862 | 1,342 | 19,131 |

- **Inbound** — messages received from contacts.
- **Template Outbound** — HSM/template messages sent outside the 24-hour conversation window, typically used for broadcasts, reminders, and re-engagement campaigns.
- **Service Outbound** — regular messages sent to a contact within an active 24-hour conversation window.

The card also shows the date since which this data has been tracked (e.g., "Data available since 29 Mar") — this is a fixed tracking start date and doesn't change with your selected Time filter.

2. Starting 1st October 2026, Meta charges for service messages. A notice below the Messages Exchanged table shows your estimated additional cost for the Service Outbound messages sent in the selected time range, calculated using WhatsApp's per-message rate for the relevant country (for example, ~USD 0.0014/message for Indian numbers). Select **WhatsApp Business Platform Rates** in the notice to check rates for other countries.

3. **The Message Composition** stacked bar chart breaks down total messages per time bucket (based on your Time Grain setting) into the same three categories — Service Outbound, Inbound, and Template Outbound.

Each color in the legend can be toggled — selecting a legend item isolates or hides that category, and the **All** / **Inv** (invert) buttons next to the legend let you quickly select all series or invert your current selection. Below the chart is a range-slider/brush control that lets you zoom into a narrower slice of the timeline without changing the global Time filter.

Tall bars dominated by Service Outbound usually reflect heavy contact-initiated conversation traffic, while a spike in Template Outbound points to a broadcast or campaign sent that week.

## Message Errors
This tab answers "are messages actually getting delivered, and where are the failures?"
