Summary

Adds offline regression coverage for issue [#6469](#6469), focusing on Responses request parsing, serialization, continuation structure, call-ID linkage, malformed input handling, and documented current-dev behavior.

Changes

  • Add tests/responses/responses-continuation-offline-regression.test.ts.
  • Register the regression test in scripts/test-layout/layout.json.
  • Update tests/fixtures/test-layout-expected.json.

The tests use offline fixtures and an injected fake-process seam. They do not make live subscription or native app-server calls. This is test-only coverage; it does not authorize a production migration or choose a production transport.

Test plan

  • bun test tests/responses/responses-continuation-offline-regression.test.ts — PASS: 18 tests passed, 0 failed; 115 expect() calls.
  • bun test tests/test-layout-tooling.test.ts — PASS: 25 tests passed, 0 failed; 565 expect() calls.
  • git diff --check upstream/dev...HEAD — no errors reported.
  • Full test suite — not run as part of this validation.
  • Review findings — awaiting review; no claim that all findings are resolved.
  • Ready for review — remains a draft pending repository requirements.

Reproducibility

  • Current implementation commit: 7c06412fc25cb6048d5678e05f342d945b9e065d
  • Base dev commit: 9b31677c4704215e8f3db1c321a38b36b40062a9
  • Bun: 1.4.3

This PR is a draft for maintainer review. The tests do not establish that a production migration or transport change is approved.

Review readiness checklist

This PR stays in draft until every box below is ticked. Tick all four boxes once the requirements are met:

  • Required local validation passed; commands, results, and any full-suite exception are documented.

  • I pushed my PR to a recent dev commit (at most 10 behind; a maintainer may still ask for the exact tip before merge).

  • I resolved all correct Codex and CodeRabbit findings.

  • My PR is ready for review.

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • Tests
    • Expanded coverage for Responses request parsing and response serialization, including preservation and matching of call IDs.
    • Added checks for function-call outputs and edge cases involving unknown, duplicate, missing, or mismatched IDs.
    • Updated test-layout mappings to include the new Responses regression tests.

📝 Walkthrough

The pull request adds offline tests for Responses call-ID serialization and parsing. The tests cover matching, unknown, duplicate, missing, and mismatched IDs. The new test file is assigned to the responses shard and added to the expected test-layout fixture.

Changes: Responses Call-ID Linkage

Layer / File(s) Summary
Call-ID linkage regression coverage
tests/responses/responses-call-id-linkage.test.ts, scripts/test-layout/layout.json, tests/fixtures/test-layout-expected.json
The tests check serialization and parsing of linked tool calls and outputs, including unknown, duplicate, missing, and mismatched IDs. The test-layout mapping and expected fixture assign the test file to the responses shard.

Thanks @adirwt852-cloud. The file passes (18 tests) and its layout registration is correct, but most of it should not go into the suite as written:

  • The claude-cli assertions in sections D, F and G pin the absence of schema forwarding (verifies current dev fails to forward final-output JSON Schema to Claude CLI). That is the gap [Feature]: Claude subscription provider — JSON-schema output and Responses tool round trips #6469 asks to close, so these tests would fail the day the feature lands. The gap belongs in the issue, not in passing tests.
  • G's first test asserts that a constant equals itself. The header's provenance block (local checkout SHAs, "verified present" next to "not present in this clone", branch main) describes one machine's checkout rather than the code, and it will read wrong for everyone else.
  • Several cases repeat existing coverage: --tools "" (tests/providers/claude-cli-adapter.test.ts:205), parsing an expanded function_call_output with its tool metadata (tests/responses/responses-state.test.ts:479), and non-JSON replay arguments (tests/responses/responses-parser.test.ts:1009). The zod checks only exercise zod.
  • rememberResponseState(..., { force: true }) writes to the process-wide response store and never cleans up.

The part dev lacks is the call_id linkage coverage in sections B and C (unknown, duplicate, missing and mismatched ids). If you trim the file to those cases under a name like responses-call-id-linkage.test.ts, with the two layout entries updated, I'm glad to take it.
