Summary

Fix the HTTP 400 “Model does not support this protocol” for opencode-go/gemini-4-argon-contributor. Closes #7097.

  • Send Gemini's native JSON/SSE request wire to Go's documented model endpoint with Bearer authentication, stable session affinity, tool continuations and thought-signature replay. Clamp xhigh to Gemini's supported high thinking level.
  • Keep the existing opencode-go preset's historical URL pinning and registry ownership. Saved custom URLs and /inference/go/v1 normalize to https://opencode.ai/zen/go/v1; omitted/empty static model lists still inherit only kimi-k2.7-code unless the default is explicitly overridden. Restore the original catalog fixtures, vision-migration contract and upload-recovery test byte-for-byte from origin/dev.
  • Apply the shared exact-model table after pinning, including Qwen3.7 Plus/3.8 Max/3.8 Flash on Messages and GPT 6 Luna on Responses. Pure policy, Fast policy and protocol summaries use the same pinned Go destination. Unknown models retain Chat; explicit Responses opt-outs remain authoritative.
  • A differently named custom openai-chat provider keeps its configured URL, key destination and Chat wire. The inference alias remains for destination metadata and session affinity on renamed rows; it does not change preset URL pinning or grant cross-adapter transport ownership.

Continue @souljorje's implementation on the original contributor branch, retaining their commits and coauthor credit. No rebase or force push.

Verification

Final code head: 0061da263a2e76c5d06daf75a6760360404c301e. Bun 1.4.3.

  • bun run typecheck, bun run structure:check, bun run privacy:scan, git diff --check — passed.
  • bun test <file> in a separate process for each of 111 selected files — 3,529 passed, 0 failed, 0 skipped. This includes all 74 test files returned by rg -l opencode-go tests, all 32 test filenames containing protocol, and the additional regression/guard files below (deduplicated).
  • All 338 tests in tests/codex-integration/codex-catalog.test.ts passed. That file is byte-for-byte identical to origin/dev and remains at 7,974 lines, with zero net growth.
  • Gemini JSON/SSE, selected-key Bearer auth, thought signatures, xhigh clamping, custom-name isolation, Qwen Messages, Luna Responses, session affinity, destination policy and the core/Lab boundary passed. Layout and file-size guards: 36 passed, 0 failed.
  • Regression proof: an isolated preload setting opencode-go.preserveCustomDestination = true makes 6 of the 8 new static-catalog cases fail; the final unmutated code passes all 8. No runtime source mutation was used for this check.
  • cd docs-site && bun install --frozen-lockfile && bun run build — passed; 577 pages / 81,200 internal links.
  • Full-suite scope exception: this bounded lane runs amid concurrent worktrees; the full suite and unfiltered import-connected selection would expand into unrelated subsystems. Ran every requested Go/protocol test plus the explicit boundary/layout guards instead. Broader Ubuntu coverage remains with new-head CI; cross-platform validation remains with the orchestrator. Neither broader suite is claimed passing.
  • CI: the fork head is confirmed as 0061da2; initial checks show resolve-prandlabelqueued and CodeRabbit pending.gh pr checks --required reports no required checks yet, so required Ubuntu CI is not claimed passing. Prior-head CI is not evidence for this head. No live upstream API test or fresh independent security review is claimed; final-head security/review acceptance remains with the orchestrator/maintainers.

The selected set is reproducible with the following selector; each selected file was run separately with bun test <file> to isolate state and bound memory:

{
  rg -l opencode-go tests | rg '\.test\.ts$'
rg --files tests | rg '(^|/)[^/]*protocol[^/]*\.test\.ts$'
  printf '%s\n' \
    tests/adapters/google/google-adapter.test.ts \
    tests/lab/core-lab-boundary.test.ts \
    tests/providers/registry-transport-alias.test.ts \
    tests/routing/resolved-model-policy-consumers.test.ts \
    tests/routing/destination-policy-resolved.test.ts \
    tests/test-layout.test.ts \
    tests/test-layout-tooling.test.ts \
    tests/ci-workflows/file-size-ratchet.test.ts
} | sort -u | while IFS= read -r file; do bun test "$file" || exit; done

Checklist

  • Scope stays focused and avoids unrelated cleanup.
  • Docs or release notes were updated when needed.
  • Security-sensitive changes were reviewed for secrets, auth, and unsafe defaults.

Review readiness checklist

  • Required local validation passed; commands, results, and any full-suite exception are documented.
  • I pushed my PR to a recent dev commit (at most 10 behind; a maintainer may still ask for the exact tip before merge).
  • I resolved all correct Codex and CodeRabbit findings.
  • My PR is ready for review.

📝 Walkthrough

The exact OpenCode Go Gemini model now uses a destination-scoped Google wire route and Go-specific endpoint. Eligible requests use Bearer authentication and session affinity. Tests cover streaming and tool-result continuation. Same-named custom destinations retain their configured routing.

Changes: OpenCode Go Gemini transport

Layer / File(s) Summary
Exact-model wire selection

Registry matching recognizes declared destination aliases for opted-in fixed-key providers. Resolved policy and routing preserve configured destinations. The migration test checks that a same-named custom destination remains unchanged.
Google transport and protocol coverage
src/adapters/google.ts, src/providers/opencode-go-transport.ts, tests/providers/opencode-go-gemini-wire.test.ts, tests/providers/opencode-go-model-protocols.test.ts, docs-site/src/content/docs/guides/providers.md, structure/providers/google.md, structure/transports/inventory.md, scripts/test-layout/layout.json, tests/fixtures/test-layout-expected.json
Eligible Google requests use the Go inference endpoint and Bearer authorization. Other Google requests retain the AI Studio endpoint and API-key header. Matching Google providers receive session affinity. Tests cover tool-result continuation and model-specific protocol dispatch.

Use a Go-specific message when the Go key is missing.

When goEndpoint is set and apiKey is blank, Line 1213 reports an AI Studio error. That message misidentifies the selected OpenCode Go route. Use a Go-specific message for this branch and keep the AI Studio message for the fallback.

@coderabbitai Fixed the missing-key diagnostic from your review in c6b0c12. The Go branch now reports OpenCode Go requires a non-empty API key; AI Studio retains its existing message. Both messages are covered by the existing regression tests. The Gemini, Google adapter and sibling Go suites passed (142 tests), along with typecheck, structure checks and privacy scanning.

The documentation check still reports 78.57% after doc comments were added in c4b13f8 and 5a29d3e. Please refresh coverage for the current head and list the exact files and function names still counted as undocumented so I can address the remaining warning precisely.

@souljorje Thanks for fixing the diagnostic. I verified the conditional message in src/adapters/google.ts, Line 1213. Go now reports OpenCode Go requires a non-empty API key. AI Studio retains its existing message.

Documentation coverage at c6b0c129

The published report already references the current head. It still reports 78.57% coverage, with 14 functions analyzed across 10 files and 1 unsupported file skipped.

However, the report exposes only the aggregate result. It does not expose the per-function coverage records. GitHub also provides no separate check output with those records. I cannot reliably identify the three entries counted as undocumented from that percentage alone.

I confirmed that the added documentation is present:

File Function Declaration
src/adapters/google.ts createGoogleAdapter Line 869
src/adapters/google.ts createGoogleAdapter.buildRequest Line 951
src/types/opencode-go.ts openCodeGoGeminiEndpoint Line 26
src/protocols/provider-summary.ts candidateModelIds → add Line 59
tests/providers/opencode-go-gemini-wire.test.ts endpointWithUserInfo Line 21
tests/providers/opencode-go-gemini-wire.test.ts go Line 29
tests/providers/opencode-go-gemini-wire.test.ts send Line 134

The exact uncovered-function list remains unverified. I would not add more comments based on guessed function names.

I’m requesting a fresh review of the current head to refresh the coverage check. The unchanged percentage after c4b13f8 and 5a29d3e, and the missing per-function details, are the specific issues to recheck. If the refreshed report still omits those details, please retry the coverage request; this inspection cannot establish the checker’s exact uncovered entries.

The inherited-default tests used a custom host while asserting historical
name-only registry ownership. Go now deliberately preserves custom destinations,
so those rows cannot inherit Go defaults. The protocol table never expanded the
static roster, and changing runtime ownership back would break that boundary.

Use the canonical Go endpoint without weakening any catalog assertions. Cover
both canonical endpoints and custom rows with and without explicit defaults for
omitted and empty model lists, including authoritative outcomes and zero fetches.

Validation: 960 catalog/Codex tests across 24 files, 529 protocol regressions,
36 layout/size guards; typecheck, structure and privacy checks passed. No full
suite per task scope. Mutating destination preservation makes four new tests fail.

Co-authored-by: Georgiy Bukharov <souljorje@gmail.com>
Keep opencode-go's existing registry ownership and canonical URL pinning.
Remove the custom-destination opt-in and its transport/policy support,
and restore the original catalog, vision migration and recovery fixtures.

Use the pinned canonical destination when capturing native Go model policies
from saved rows, including protocol summaries. Keep the inference alias for
renamed destination metadata and affinity without preserving preset URLs.
Cover custom-name isolation, Gemini JSON/SSE/auth/signatures/effort, Qwen
Messages and Luna Responses, and correct the user and architecture docs.

Validation: 3,529 tests passed across 111 files (all 74 Go-containing files,
all 32 protocol-named files, and additional boundary/layout guards); all 338
catalog tests passed. Typecheck, structure, privacy and docs build passed.
The catalog file is byte-identical to origin/dev with no line growth.
An isolated preservation-flag mutation fails 6/8 static catalog cases.
The full suite was left to CI for this bounded concurrent-worktree lane.
