…tools for OpenAI delegate Zed's OpenAI Responses decoder rejects the developer role and Codex's built-in web_search tool, so Codex requests through zed/gpt-* failed with HTTP 400. Keep the delegate's destination set to Zed so OpenAI-private Responses fields are stripped as well.

⚠️ Unverified finding
Verification ran but could not confirm this finding. It is shown for review, not as a verified issue.Normalize the
developerrole for items without an explicittype.Line 309 requires
item.type === "message". Lines 278-301 already default a missingtypeto"message"and a missingroleto"user". Those defaults are local to the earlier.map()and apply only wheninputis a string or an array. Adeveloperitem that reaches this point hastype: "message"after that normalization, so the guard holds in the current flow. The guard still depends on the earlier block staying in place. Move the role mapping into the earlier.map()to keep one normalization pass. This prevents drift if the earlier block changes.Lines 305-313 and 278-301 both rewrite
providerRequest.input. Two passes over the same array increase the risk of inconsistent edits.

Normalize tool_choice when the Zed filter removes every tool.
A Responses request with only web_search and tool_choice: "required" can reach this branch unchanged. The filter removes web_search, but it leaves "required". Zed then receives a required choice with no available tools, which violates the selector contract and can cause the request to fail.
Set tool_choice to "none" when filtering removes all tools.

Add test cases for the filter edge cases.
The test covers one web_search tool and one function tool. It does not cover a custom tool, an input where every tool is dropped, or a tool_choice that references a dropped tool. Add focused cases for these paths. Tests for these cases would protect the filter at src/adapters/zed.ts lines 314-319.

Reviewed the complete three-file diff at b0de8d5. The developer-role and private-field fixes address the reported compatibility path, but the new tool filtering needs to preserve a coherent tool-choice contract. The owner is carrying this work with a selection-policy follow-up in #7216; that carry is still open. No local runtime test, live Zed request or security scan was run in this pass.

[P2] Reconcile tool_choice when dropping built-in tools
For a request with tools: [{type: "web_search"}] and tool_choice: {type: "web_search"}, this filter emits tools: [] while leaving the delegate's forced tool choice unchanged. With tool_choice: "required", removing the only tool similarly makes the request impossible to satisfy. The new regression covers only an automatic choice with a surviving function, so it misses these cases. Validate/reconcile forced and allowed-tools choices against the retained declarations, and return an explicit unsupported-selection refusal where the original choice cannot be honored; do not silently broaden a forced request. Add built-in-only, mixed allowed-tools and retained-function/custom cases.
