Summary

Carries five CLI proposals onto dev, preserving each source author's commit attribution:

No source PR is excluded. The consent path now propagates its committed config-change receipt to the carried restart logic; unchanged and validation-only operations report no change. Generated skill references retain all fields, derive counts from declarations (345 capabilities), and combine mutation/JSON-mode labels within the existing chapter budget. New tests are registered in both layout maps; no size cap was raised and no GUI/locales catalog changed.

Verification

Refresh head: b4d6376cc11eb3c64fcc7f60813eef29dae4e885 (tree 7e7c71321b6689c12d7e7acaa0dcd164b23bd809), merging origin/dev at 7a4286052fe7a4f26c5691ecc380b91262508a6c into codex/prr-l4 without rebase or force-push.

  • Local tests, typechecks, builds and lint were NOT RUN, as required by the coordinator. Only the allowed skill-surface generator and pure structure-index renderer ran locally. Static inspection confirms that the merged layout and expected fixture preserve every entry from both heads, all file-size caps are respected, and both the file-size and import-cycle baselines are unchanged. Generated capability total is derived: 345, including the carried CLI commands; the generated integration help also names dev's gentle-shell target.
  • Conflicts resolved in scripts/test-layout/layout.json, tests/fixtures/test-layout-expected.json, and generated skills/ocx/references/01_surface_integrations.md. The docs merged automatically, retaining the carried custom-provider workflow and dev's compaction changes. Source retains dev's cycle-breaking readCodexCatalogPath import from codex/paths.
  • lidge focused run R2-L4-b4d6376-focus, exact refresh head, Bun 1.4.3: TYPECHECK_EXIT=0, TEST_EXIT=0; 639 pass / 5 skip / 0 fail across 29 files in 48 seconds. Covers carried usage/log/restart/consent/update behavior, capability/registry/dispatch, Gentle Shell, generated skills, import-cycle ratchet, both layout guards, and structure SSOT. Evidence: lidge:~/ocx-lane/logs/R2-L4-b4d6376-focus.summary and sibling .log/.log.typecheck files.
  • lidge full run, same exact head and Bun: TYPECHECK_EXIT=0, TEST_EXIT=1; 49,272 pass / 147 skip / 29 fail, aggregating wrapper invocations. Launched with ssh lidge '~/bin/ocx-lane-launch.sh 2 b4d6376cc11eb3c64fcc7f60813eef29dae4e885 R2-L4-b4d6376'; 1,429 seconds includes 955 seconds waiting for the per-user test lock. Evidence: lidge:~/ocx-lane/logs/R2-L4-b4d6376.summary and sibling logs. This is not a clean full-suite pass.
  • Required comparison ran after both full runs completed: ssh lidge '~/bin/ocx-lane-cmp.sh R2-L4-b4d6376 dev-7a42860'. Baseline exact head 7a4286052fe7a4f26c5691ecc380b91262508a6c: TYPECHECK_EXIT=0, TEST_EXIT=1; 49,138 pass / 146 skip / 30 fail. Comparison output: 0 new failure names; 1 baseline failure now passing/absent; no missing wrapper invocation names, with 26 wrapper completions on each side. The helper itself exits 1 because its final conditional sees an empty missing-invocations list; the figures above are its printed comparison, not an exit-zero certification.
  • Current-head hosted gates job failed its GUI tests: 3,428 pass / 4 fail, all four in gui/tests/models-keep-native-v1-placement.test.ts. The test and its source inputs are identical to dev; this PR has no GUI diff. All four hosted test shards, docs build, structure gate, API usage, Docker smoke, keyring, npm-global, storage policy, catalog async contracts, Linux service and React checks passed. The aggregate ci check is red because of the GUI gate; no all-green claim is made.
  • Validation infrastructure recovery: confirmed every wrapper was sleeping before setup, no Git process or open lock holder existed, then removed the empty stale lidge:~/ocx-lane/locks/git directory. No helper scripts or other repository worktrees were edited.

Custom-provider consent and npm registry/installation-provenance boundaries still require the coordinator's explicit security review before integration. The full comparison adds no failure names; the baseline failures and red hosted GUI gate remain integration judgments for the coordinator. This lane does not merge or close source PRs.

Checklist

  • Scope stays focused and avoids unrelated cleanup.
  • Docs or release notes were updated when needed.
  • Security-sensitive changes were reviewed for secrets, auth, and unsafe defaults. Coordinator review remains required for consent and installation/registry boundaries.

📝 Walkthrough

This pull request adds Codex CLI update planning, custom-provider routing consent, request-history commands, and usage comparison. It also reports committed configuration changes to sync restart handling and updates command references, generated skill documentation, and tests.

Changes: Codex CLI update planning

Layer / File(s) Summary
Candidate attestation and update planning
src/codex/cli-install-provenance.ts, src/codex/cli-update-plan.ts, src/cli/codex-cli-update.ts, src/codex/app-server-processes.ts, src/update/npm-invocation.mjs, tests/codex-integration/*, tests/cli/*, docs-site/src/content/docs/*, structure/*
check can attest a POSIX environment candidate when it matches the runtime resolver’s canonical selection. plan validates official-registry version and integrity evidence, checks process state, and reports a read-only update decision. Tests cover candidate provenance, registry validation, temporary npm isolation, and process-scan outcomes.

Custom Codex provider routing

Layer / File(s) Summary
Consent, routing, and restoration
src/codex/provider-routing.ts, src/cli/codex-provider.ts, src/codex/inject.ts, src/codex/inject/restore.ts, src/codex/inject/routing-classify.ts, src/codex/sync.ts, src/cli/dispatch.ts, tests/codex-integration/codex-provider-routing.test.ts, tests/service/shutdown-launcher.test.ts, docs-site/src/content/docs/guides/codex-integration.md, structure/codex-provider-routing.md
The consent commands approve or revoke URL-only routing for an eligible provider in a selected Codex home. Injection and restoration update provider URLs and retain recovery data. Routing classification recognizes approved managed URLs.
CLI and capability references
src/cli/help.ts, src/cli/registry.ts, src/cli/capabilities-base.ts, skills/ocx/references/*, structure/INDEX.md, structure/manifest.json
The CLI help and references document provider consent commands, their scope, and routing constraints.

Request history and usage comparison

Layer / File(s) Summary
History retrieval and usage comparison
src/cli/log-history.ts, src/cli/usage-compare.ts, src/cli/observe.ts, src/cli/capabilities-observe-system.ts, src/cli/observe-stream.ts, tests/cli/cli-log-history.test.ts, tests/cli/cli-usage-compare.test.ts, tests/cli/cli-capability-operation-workflows.test.ts
logs history pages indexed request history, and logs get retrieves a canonical row by request ID. usage compare reads the selected window and the preceding equal-length window, then reports totals and changes.

Configuration changes and sync restarts

Layer / File(s) Summary
Configuration-change reporting and restart gating
src/codex/inject.ts, src/codex/sync.ts, src/cli/dispatch.ts, src/cli/index.ts, tests/codex-integration/codex-inject-*.test.ts, tests/codex-integration/codex-sync-api.test.ts, tests/cli/cli-dispatch.test.ts
Successful injection and sync results can report a committed configuration-byte change. With an explicit restart request, dispatch permits a restart after a successful configuration change even when catalog and cache bytes are unchanged. Shutdown restoration no longer depends on the absence of an external provider.

CLI reference generation and supporting updates

Layer / File(s) Summary
Capability references and supporting updates
scripts/generate-ocx-skill-surface.ts, skills/ocx/references/*, skills/ocx/references/01_management_surface.md, structure/*, tests/ci-workflows/skill-ocx-generated.test.ts, scripts/test-layout/layout.json, tests/fixtures/test-layout-expected.json
Generated capability references place JSON mode beside state-changing status. Indexes add command entries and update capability counts. Test shard mappings include the added CLI and integration tests.

P2 Badge Pin both usage reads to one connection

If a connected client is re-enrolled or switches Hubs between these two sequential reads, each readUsage call independently captures and validates its own connection, so the first result can come from Hub/key A and the second from Hub/key B while both checks pass. The same issue can occur when local runtime discovery resolves a different proxy between requests. Capture one connection/token or runtime target for the entire comparison and revalidate that identity after both reads before calculating deltas.

P2 Badge Match history filters against failover attempts

For a request that failed over, these summaries promise that --provider and --model match attempt identities, but queryRequestHistory filters only the indexed provider and model columns, which extractRow populates exclusively from entry.provider and entry.model; it never searches entry.attempts. Consequently, filtering for a provider or model used only by a failover attempt silently omits that request. Either index/query attempt identities or narrow the advertised behavior.

P2 Badge Keep comparison windows equal across DST transitions

In a timezone observing daylight-saving changes, subtracting calendar days with setDate can shift the epoch by 23 or 25 hours. When the current or previous window crosses that transition, the two supposedly equal windows have different elapsed durations, skewing totals and percentage changes; the existing test only uses UTC and misses this. Derive the previous bounds so their elapsed length matches the current window, or explicitly define and label this as a wall-clock rather than equal-duration comparison.

🌐 Web query:

official GitHub Flavored Markdown table specification escaped pipe code span

💡 Result:

Official GFM specification: https://github.github.com/gfm/#tables-extension-

It explicitly says to escape a pipe in a table cell **even inside inline spans such as code spans**. Example:

```md
| Code |
| --- |
| `\|` |
```

That renders a code span containing `|`. See **§4.10, Example 200**. ([github.github.com](https://github.github.com/gfm/?ref=scriptorium))

Citations:

Escape the pipes in the table cell to preserve the two-column table.

GFM treats unescaped pipes as table delimiters, including inside code spans. This row therefore has five cells instead of two. Escape each pipe.

The zh-cn and zh-tw pages omit the version-match condition for managed: true.

The English source and the code both require two conditions for managed: true. The manifest must prove ownership. A reported candidate version must also match the manifest version (src/codex/cli-install-provenance.ts Lines 824-844). The Chinese translations state only the ownership condition. The other translations, including fr, ja, ko, ru and tr, include both conditions.

Preserve equal elapsed duration across DST transitions.

Date#setDate preserves local wall-clock time, so priorNow can be 23 or 25 elapsed hours from now. On a local day containing a DST transition, rangeWindow("today", priorNow) can therefore produce a previous window whose elapsed duration differs from the current window by one hour.

The source and documentation promise a “previous equal window”. Use elapsed duration for the today comparison and add a DST-boundary test. The affected example is the transition day itself, not necessarily the day after it.

Update the comparison-window logic around `rangeWindow` so `today` uses the
current window’s elapsed duration to create the immediately preceding
equal-duration window, rather than shifting the local date with `Date#setDate`.
Keep the existing prior-date calculation for other ranges and add a test

Name the URL that revocation restores.

src/codex/provider-routing.ts:152-171 restores the saved original URL when the current URL is still managed; it does not restore the proxy URL. Replace “restore its managed URL” with “restore its original URL if unchanged” so the guide describes the behavior precisely.

As per path instructions, “Check that user-facing docs stay in sync with actual CLI/API behavior.”

🟡 Minor · Re-check provider consent under the write lock. · provider-routing.ts:154-168

src/codex/provider-routing.ts:154-168
🩺 Stability & Availability | 🟡 Minor | ⚡ Quick win

Re-check provider consent under the write lock.

approvedCodexProviders() runs before inWriteSection. If another process revokes the provider before the callback reads the record, record.providers[id] is undefined, and saved.managedUrls throws. The CLI catches the exception and returns exit code 1, so the command reports a runtime error even though the concurrent revocation already completed.

🟡 Minor · Allow encoded slashes in request-history IDs. · log-history.ts:158-171

src/cli/log-history.ts:158-171
🗄️ Data Integrity & Integration | 🟡 Minor | ⚡ Quick win

Allow encoded slashes in request-history IDs.

logs get req/1 sends /api/request-history/req%2F1. The management route decodes this to req/1, then returns 404 before calling the exact canonical-row lookup. Since request history supports req/1 as a valid ID, the CLI cannot fetch that row.

Update the management route to accept encoded slashes and pass the decoded ID to requestHistoryRowById. Keep encodeURIComponent(requestId) at the CLI boundary.

🗄️ Data Integrity & Integration | 🟡 Minor | ⚡ Quick win

Preserve one connected client identity across both reads.

handleUsageCompareCommand reads the current and previous windows separately. Each readUsage call validates only the connection used for that call. If the client reconnects as another owner between the calls, both reads can succeed, but the command calculates the comparison from different owners.

Capture the initial connected identity and require both reads to match it, including its token fingerprint.

Approved custom Codex provider injection now rechecks the persisted integration intent under the Codex/config locks, so it can no longer undo integration OFF. Approval-record inspection, stale native-journal cleanup and URL publication share one write section, which fixes an unlocked read that #7222 added. The shared Codex config write lock now records the destination inode after acquiring the lock. Before, a writer that replaced the file just ahead of acquisition left a stale witness, and concurrent syncs failed. ocx usage compare binds both windows to one connection, usage owner, destination and credential fingerprint, and aborts with a retry message when they differ.
