295-296: 🚀 Performance & Scalability | 🔵 Trivial | 🏗️ Heavy liftReduce duplicate export scans without weakening verification.
describeDatasetExportand the download each callprepareDatasetExport, which hashes every retained archive. The download hashes each archive again while streaming. The normal index-then-download flow therefore reads each archive three times, and each pass holds the serializedreadlane.Do not add an index-only mode that returns stored hashes after size validation. The index and MCP contracts require verification of current RAW bytes. Instead, pass a short-lived, single-use prepared result from the index request to its download. Bind it to the dataset and index, discard it after use or expiry, and reprepare when it is unavailable. Keep the stream-time hash check so changes after preparation are rejected.
This reduces the normal flow to two archive reads without serving stale verification.

Do not delete the input when it is the extraction destination.
If path is not a directory and resolves to join(outputDirectory, 'bundle'), line 34 removes the input archive. extractBundle then fails with a missing-file error. Reject this case before line 34.

Reject candidate ids that collide with output paths.
The id regex accepts ., .., work, bundle, ranking.json, ranking.md, run.json and parity.json. cli.ts lines 50-53 use the id as a directory name under outputDirectory. These are the consequences:
..writestuning.jsonandvalidation.jsoninto the parent of the output directory..writes the reports into the output directory root.workreports are written intowork/.cli.tsline 61 then deletes them.ranking.jsonandrun.jsoncreate a directory with that name. ThewriteFilecalls on lines 55 and 58 then fail withEISDIR, after all replays are complete.
Reject these ids in the schema.

Stop in-flight replays when one work item fails.
When work throws, failed only stops the other slots from taking new items. Children that are already running continue. runWaveformChild gets no signal, and each child has a 3,600,000 ms budget. Promise.all rejects right away, but the CLI process stays alive until every running Python worker ends. Pass an AbortController signal to runWaveformChild and abort it on the first failure.

Make expanded candidate ids unique and valid.
label removes - and every other character except letters, digits and .. The values -1 and 1 therefore produce the same id. .slice(0, 80) can also cut two long combinations to the same id. The fallback path.split('.').at(-1) can add characters that candidateSchema rejects. The sweep path does not run candidateFileSchema, so none of these cases is detected.
Duplicate ids have these effects in cli.ts and rankCandidates:
- The second candidate's
<id>/<split>.jsonoverwrites the first one's. - Both candidates merge into one ranking row.
- The
pickfunction inrankCandidatesreturns only the first matching report.
Validate the result with candidateFileSchema.

Close the retained-artifact handle on read failure.
hashRetainedArtifact closes handle only after the for await loop finishes normally. If the read stream throws (for example, on an I/O error), the file descriptor is never closed. Every failed export then leaks one descriptor in the coordinator process. Use try/finally, the same way datasetBundleChunks does.
