- Bind the validation metrics server to 127.0.0.1 unless --bind says otherwise - Exit with a short message when --extra is not valid JSON - State that the cardinality worked example has no KV-cache series
- Show the nav item and page when LMCache keys are detected or any engine is linked, so engines stay manageable after keys disappear
- Feed the cards a live 6h footprint query independent of the chart range

Requesting changes, mostly to turn the follow-ups into fixes. The security posture is clean and I want to be explicit about that: I specifically hunted for a secret leak, snippet injection, a broken OTLP endpoint, chart data corruption, and an unsafe validation script and found none (auth header never returned by the API, engine id charset-restricted, OTLP path correct and excluded from /api, charts handle dotted model names with no XSS sink, validate.py binds localhost and uses json.loads). The items below are the bar for approval.
-
Onboarding dead-end: a licensed user whose LMCache is not auto-detected and who has no engines yet cannot reach the Link-engine flow.
KvCacheGuardrendersKvCacheNotDetected(only Rescan/Docs), the sidebar entry is hidden in that state, and the only Link-engine button lives inside the page the guard will not render. Since linking an engine is the escape hatch when BetterDB cannot see the keys, please make that reachable from the not-detected state. -
The copied collector snippet always emits
Authorization: Bearer ${env:BETTERDB_OTEL_INGEST_TOKEN}, which makes the Collector fail to start on a token-less self-hosted Monitor unless the user removes the block. The docs note this but the in-app snippet does not. Please either omit the header when no token is expected or add an inline caveat in the snippet. -
Fold in the earlier items: give
liveHistorya distinct React Query key (it currently collides withhistoryin the default state and will warn in dev), and fix the docs claim about an editable scrape URL the Engines table does not expose.
- Add a Link an engine action to the not-detected view; the guard owns the dialog so the OTLP snippet survives the switch to the full page - Note in the collector snippet that the headers block must be removed when Monitor has no OTEL_INGEST_TOKEN - Give live history its own React Query key - Drop the docs claim that the engines table edits the scrape URL

- Render cards and charts when engines are linked but no snapshot exists; keep advisories and the model table gated on a snapshot - Show an empty TTL coverage when no LMCache keys were sampled - Add KvCache page and KvCacheCards specs
Reset the hit-rate threshold text when the connection changes or the sheet opens, so a stale value is never saved to another connection.

Thanks for this, the KV Cache page is coming together nicely. I'm requesting changes for a few issues I'd like fixed before merge.
Blocking
1. A late create response can close or hijack the link dialog (apps/web/src/components/pages/kv-cache/LinkEngineDialog.tsx:41)
The create mutation's onSuccess is set at the useMutation level, so it still runs after the dialog has been closed and reset() called. Scrape engine: save (the backend test scrape takes a few seconds), close the dialog, reopen it and start typing. The old request resolves, close(false) runs, and the new dialog closes and loses its input. OTLP: close during the pending create, reopen later, and the dialog jumps straight to the old engine's collector snippet. Pass the callbacks to mutate() and ignore results for a dialog session that has ended (or check an open/session ref).
2. The KV Cache sidebar entry is hidden when it's needed most (apps/web/src/components/layout/AppSidebar.tsx:35)
For licensed users the entry only shows when LMCache keys are detected or an engine is linked. A Pro user whose LMCache writes to another DB, or who only pushes metrics over OTLP, has hasLmcache=false and no engines. They never see the entry, so the "not detected" view with Rescan and "Link an engine" can only be reached by typing /kv-cache. This contradicts docs/kv-cache-monitoring.md. The entry is also missing while status loads and stays hidden for good if the status request errors. I'd show it for all licensed users.
3. The collector snippet breaks for some engine ids (apps/web/src/components/pages/kv-cache/collector-snippet.ts:23)
The engine id goes into the YAML as an unquoted scalar, and the DTO allows anything matching ^[A-Za-z0-9._-]{1,64}$. Ids like 0123, 1e3, 1.50 or null are parsed by the collector as numbers or null. The resulting attribute doesn't match byOtlpId, so every point is dropped as unknown_engine and the pasted snippet silently never works. Quote the value: value: '<id>'.
4. Scrape URL credentials are shown in plain text (apps/web/src/components/pages/kv-cache/KvCacheEngines.tsx:82)
The Target column renders engine.scrapeUrl verbatim, and IsUrl allows userinfo. http://user:s3cret@vllm:8000/metrics is shown to every viewer, including read-only members, and it's also in the /kv-cache/status response. The auth header field is masked, so this should be too. Ideally strip userinfo on the API side, or at least mask it in the UI.
Non-blocking
- Threshold input (
KvCacheSettingsSheet.tsx:94): saves only on blur. Enter does nothing, and closing the sheet with Escape can unmount it without a blur, so the edit is lost. Save on Enter, or switch to an explicit save. - Charts stop refreshing on presets (
apps/web/src/pages/KvCache.tsx:33): any picked range setsrefetchIntervaltofalse, but presets end atendOfDay(now). Keep polling while the range end is in the future. - Silent toggle failure (
KvCacheEngines.tsx:29): the enable/disable mutation has no error handling. A failed PATCH just snaps the switch back, and the user thinks the engine is off while it keeps scraping. A toast would do. - Duplicate fetches (
KvCache.tsx:56): with no range picked, historyandliveHistoryboth fetch the same 6-hour footprint history every 60s, andrecentmakes a separate samples call that could be derived from the existing buckets. - Dead API surface (
apps/web/src/api/kv-cache.ts:39):listEnginesandkvCacheKeys.enginesare never queried (engines come from/status), yetuseInvalidateEnginesinvalidates that key. TheengineId/modelsample params are never passed either. Remove them, or use the key helpers instead of the literal['kv-cache','samples',connectionId].
Housekeeping
Please remove the Co-Authored-By: Claude ... trailers from the commits before merge (8e50483, 5244dc9, 4e42397, 1a6681f, 81613c6, bab092a, 8dea763, 1132a25, ce2ef8f), so they don't end up in master history.
- Ignore link-engine create results from a closed dialog session - Show the KV Cache sidebar entry to every licensed user - Quote the engine id in the collector snippet YAML - Mask scrape URL credentials in API engine DTOs and the Engines table - Save the alert threshold on Enter and when the sheet closes - Keep polling charts while the picked range ends in the future - Show an error when enabling or disabling an engine fails - Reuse live footprint history for the default chart range - Drop unused listEngines, engines key and sample filter params

Medium Risk
Large new Pro UI and engine-linking flows touch credentials and external scrape targets, though auth headers stay server-side and URLs are masked; most backend logic ships in stacked PRs.
Overview
Adds a Pro-gated KV Cache experience in the web app: a
/kv-cacheroute behindKvCacheGuard(license check, LMCache detection vs linked engines, not-detected onboarding with rescan/link-engine), plus a sidebar nav item gated onFeature.KV_CACHE_MONITORING.The page wires new
kv-cacheAPI helpers and React Query keys/hooks to show footprint cards, advisories, charts, per-model usage, engine CRUD (scrape or OTLP with a copyable collector snippet), and per-connection alert settings; scrape URLs are masked in the UI and on the status API via sharedmaskUrlCredentials.Documentation expands for KV cache monitoring (detection, footprint, hit rate, alerts, metrics, OTLP
unknown_engine), and ascripts/kv-cache-validatePython harness exercises LMCache against Valkey for manual E2E checks. Broad component and API client tests cover guards, dialogs, and query invalidation behavior.Reviewed by Cursor Bugbot for commit 62b654f. Bugbot is set up for automated code reviews on this repo.
