- Compute the evictions delta per cluster node so an unreachable primary no longer reads as a counter reset - Stop scraping engines whose connection is gone and drop results that land after removal - Delete connection data only after pending sample writes settle
- Return a truncated flag when a samples query reaches 50,000 rows - Tell the user on the KV Cache page and in the docs
- Resolve scrape hosts through a guarded lookup at connect time so a changed DNS answer cannot reach a refused address - Map connect-time refusals to the blocked address scrape error

Most of this hardening is correct and I confirmed the parts that matter most: the pinnedFetch DNS-pinning is genuinely sound (the custom lookup is wired into the real http(s).request path, validates every resolved address, and redirects are not followed), and the per-node eviction delta is a real improvement. But the connection-removal change introduces a data-loss regression that I'd like fixed before merge.
The generation counter guards the stale snapshot write, but the deferred deleteKvCacheConnectionData it was meant to make safe is not generation-checked at all (kv-cache-footprint.service.ts:73-92). The delete is chained on the in-flight run plus removal listeners settling, and deleteKvCacheConnectionData unconditionally wipes snapshots, engine samples, kv_cache_engines, and kv_cache_settings for the id.
Concrete repro using the existing same-id reuse path: an auto-registered cluster member is retired, so it leaves the registry and onConnectionRemoved fires while a cluster collection is in-flight; settled now waits for the entire cluster scan plus the samples flush, parking the delete behind seconds of I/O. The node un-retires under the same id, re-enters the registry, and the next tick (or a Refresh) collects and saves fresh data. The old in-flight run finally settles and the parked delete fires, wiping the freshly-collected snapshots, the registered scrape engines, and the alert settings, with no re-trigger until the next 300s poll. Pre-PR the delete fired on the next microtask, so this PR widens a negligible window into a real one.
Fix: capture the generation in onConnectionRemoved and skip the delete if generationOf(id) has moved when it fires (or cancel the pending delete on re-registration). Note this interacts with the never-cleared generations map, so reason about both together. Minor, non-blocking: truncation slices raw rows before mergeBuckets, so the oldest retained bucket can be undercounted right at the 50k boundary.
- Skip the parked deleteKvCacheConnectionData when the removal generation has moved or the id is back in the registry, so a re-registered connection keeps its fresh data - Drop the removal generation once the delete fires with no run in flight, bounding the generations map - Drop the oldest timestamp when samples hit the row limit so the oldest returned bucket is never partially counted

When a removed connection is registered again before cleanup runs, announce a restore instead of skipping silently, and reload that connection's engines from storage so scrapes resume.
On restore, keep an engine linked during cleanup and delete the stored engine it supersedes by name or OTLP id instead of loading both.
- Decide which engines to reload synchronously, so a removal that lands during a delete cannot be undone by the rest of the restore - Skip a superseded delete once the connection is removed again or the engine is back in memory
Samples from a node with few matched keys no longer skew the per-model split as much as samples from a node holding most of the cache.
- Sample through call() in batches so agent connections work - Count glob hits toward the match budget; stop probing undetected connections after two empty pages - Ask CLIENT LIST only when too few keys matched; match the GLIDE lib-name field exactly - Keep readable nodes when one fails and mark the scan incomplete - Warn once per node when MEMORY USAGE returns nothing - Treat retired members as registered so retiring never wipes data - Reject a manual refresh while one runs, and for sentinel or disconnected connections - Floor KV_CACHE_MATCH_MAX_KEYS at the detection threshold
A retired cluster member keeps its KV data; this clears it once the connection itself is deleted.

Registry wipe races in-flight collection
Medium Severity
removeOne now deletes KV cache snapshots, samples, engines, and settings immediately, but the footprint run still decides whether to persist with a generation that is only bumped when the poller later notices the removal. A collection that is already mid-scan can save a snapshot after that wipe, and engine status writes can recreate rows, leaving orphans until the next tick or across a restart.

Fixed in 374bebb. I reverted the immediate wipe in removeOne. The footprint service now sweeps retired members on each poll, and when one disappears from the registry it goes through the normal onConnectionRemoved path. That path bumps the generation so in-flight saves get dropped, runs the removal listeners so engines unregister, and deletes only after the active run settles. Normal removals were already handled this way.

Lost detection forces a long probe
Medium Severity
detected is only an in-memory set and is cleared on every removal, including a retirement that later restores the connection. The next collection then probes two SCAN pages. If those pages have no glob hits, the run is treated as not detected and undetectedUntil blocks full scans for 30 minutes, so a connection that already had LMCache can go dark after restart, failback, or a brief retire/restore.

Fixed in 374bebb. Probing is now opt-in: the service only probes connections whose last snapshot came back undetected, and that state is cleared on removal. So a first run after a restart, failback or retire/restore always does a full scan.
- Revert the immediate KV wipe in removeOne (75d5ddb); it raced in-flight collections and engine writes - Sweep retired members each poll and run the guarded removal path once one is deleted from the registry - Probe only connections whose last snapshot was undetected, so a restart or retire/restore starts with a full scan
The sweep ran only while polling a connected connection, so a retired member deleted when nothing was connected kept its KV data.

- Tell snapshot listeners when some cluster nodes could not be read - Neither raise nor clear the evicting advisory from such a snapshot, since its memory ratio and eviction delta cover only part of the cluster
- Count deregistered members and failed role reads as unread nodes - Set scanComplete false and partial true when any planned node is unread - Expose readPrimaryScanNodes; primaryScanNodes keeps its contract

- A partial read with too few keys keeps the previous detection state and no longer starts the undetected back-off or probe scans - Count disconnected cluster members that still own slots as unread primaries, so the snapshot is partial with scanComplete false

Sample errors look like empty success
Medium Severity
sampleKey now swallows every MEMORY/TTL/EXISTS failure through settle, so a dropped connection during sampling still returns a successful node reading. The snapshot is not marked partial, byte estimates fall to zero, and a later complete-looking snapshot can clear eviction state.

Overview
This PR hardens KV cache monitoring around connection lifecycle, cluster partial reads, sample caps, and metrics scrape SSRF/DNS rebind protection.
Connection removal and restore: Footprint and engine registries now use removal generations, wait for in-flight collections and sample flushes before deleting stored data, and can restore engines when a connection is re-registered instead of wiping state. Scrapes skip engines whose connection is gone and drop results that finish after removal.
Cluster footprint and alerts: Snapshots carry a
partialflag when not every primary was read (unreachable nodes, offline cluster members with slots, unreadable roles). Eviction deltas are tracked per node (with restart handling) so a missing primary does not look like a counter reset. Eviction alerts keep the evicting state on partial snapshots instead of clearing prematurely. Footprint scanning adds a probe mode for undetected connections, weights per-model estimates by node key share, and samples keys viacallonly (agent-safe).Samples API and UI:
getSamplesreturnstruncated: truewhen a range exceeds 50k rows (keeping the newest portion); the KV Cache page and docs explain the cap.Scrape DNS pinning:
guardedLookup/pinnedFetchmove out of the shared outbound guard intopinned-fetch, so connect-time DNS is validated against blocked IPs; scrapes use manual redirects and no longer follow hops to refused addresses.Reviewed by Cursor Bugbot for commit 8dc5a82.
