TASK-267 — owner grant list for Tools

The Tools page previously queried grants from the first 20 pods and merged duplicates in the browser. A grant in pod 21 never appeared. This change adds GET /api/grants?connectionOwner=me and replaces that grant fan-out with one owner-scoped read. The page no longer caps its pod choices at 20.

The endpoint authenticates the human caller, finds only connections they own, and lists the grants on those connection IDs. It uses the same explicit grant projection as the existing per-pod read, including current effective audience and confinement status. Admin status does not expand the result. Revoked and expired grants remain visible with the same fields. The existing agent-roster and per-grant trail reads are unchanged; the single request applies to the grant list.

Tests cover both GitHub installation IDs and hosted connection row IDs, a grant in the 21st pod, a foreign connection returned by a defensive mock, an admin caller given a foreign connection by the test double, and the page's revoked/expired labels, single grant-list request, and the 21st pod as a new-grant target.

Verification at c03282152feab8e5613c72f622656690296164d9:

  • Backend grant-read suite: 24/24 passed on Node 22.
  • Frontend Tools and Connectors page suites: 122/122 passed.
  • Backend production TypeScript build check and frontend TypeScript check passed.
  • Targeted backend and frontend ESLint: zero errors. Full backend lint in this reused local dependency tree reports an unrelated unresolved @e2b/code-interpreter import in turnSandboxService.ts; CI will verify the clean install.

Gate: Vera PASS at the exact head (review 5613371910). CI is fully green at this head, including Test & Coverage, E2E, and real-DB Service Tests. Deploy slot: Sunday deploy 5. Keep draft for the deploy press.

Follow-up: the existing per-pod agent-roster reads remain eager. Removing the 20-pod cap means the largest measured account can issue 119 roster requests; lazy roster loading is a separate row. The grant list itself now takes one request.

Exact-head gate at c03282152feab8e5613c72f622656690296164d9, re-resolved live immediately before filing. The ask named aa0a4650, which is now two commits back: d17dfd2a added the 21st-pod frontend pin and c0328215 strengthened the admin arm's mock. Both are test-only — backend/routes/grants.ts and the whole frontend/ tree are byte-identical across the three heads — so the earlier measurements carried, and I re-ran the backend suite and both owner-fence mutations at this head rather than inheriting them. origin/main fetched in the same breath at 1b0b3da9, which is an ancestor: the base is not stale.

Property gated. GET /api/grants?connectionOwner=me returns only grants backed by a connection the caller owns, across every pod, with no admin bypass.

The four things you asked me to check

  • Owner filtering is two layers and both are now witnessed. Integration.find({ createdBy: userId }) and the in-memory connectionOwnerId(connection) === userId re-check. The admin mock at this head deliberately returns a foreign row for a non-owner caller, so each layer reddens independently: dropping the query predicate → 2 red; dropping the in-memory filter → 2 red. createdBy is required: true on the schema, so the config.linkedUserId fallback inside connectionOwnerId can never be the only owner signal and the query cannot miss a row the predicate would accept.
  • Both connection-id forms resolve. Dropping connection._id from connectionIdsOf reddens the hosted-row-id arm. A grant's connectionId can only ever be the row _id or the top-level installationId, because the mint resolves it through findConnection, which matches exactly those two — so the three-slot set is a superset, not a guess.
  • 21st pod. The cap is genuinely gone and the pin is not vacuous: re-capping podIds at 20 reddens the new frontend arm. Worth saying plainly — the old MAX_PODS = 20 also truncated the mint form's pod picker, so for anyone past 20 pods this fixes a bug, not just a fan-out.
  • Dead grants. revokedAt/revokedBy/expiresAt survive the projection and the exact field set is pinned; the frontend arm keeps the revoked and expired labels on the 21st pod's rows.

Also checked: 401 unauthenticated, 400 without connectionOwner=me, auth rather than dualAuth so no agent token reaches it, grantRateLimit applied, and no admin branch anywhere in the handler.

Measurements at this head

  • Backend grants.read 24/24. Frontend V2ConnectorTools + V2ConnectorsPage 122/122. Backend and frontend tsc --noEmit both clean.
  • Five mutations, one variable each, every one failing for its own reason, tree restored to 52f4cec7 after: query owner predicate → 2 red; in-memory owner filter → 2 red; connection._id dropped → 1 red; connectionOwner guard neutered → 1 red; podIds re-capped at 20 → 1 red.

Three notes, none of them a defect

  1. The listing and the removal path do not use the same predicate. revokeConnectionGrants matches the same three identifiers against connectionId or installationId; this route matches connectionId only. I measured the gap read-only against live data rather than arguing it: 0 grant rows exist, across 19 connections, with 0 rows whose config.installationId differs from the top-level slot and 0 identifier values shared across two owners. So nothing is hidden today and the cross-owner collision shape does not exist. It is still a third independent derivation of one identifier set (revokeConnectionGrants, installableInstallationService's select, and now connectionIdsOf); one exported definition would mean a future fourth caller cannot drift from removal's reach.
  2. grantedBy is derived differently here. Every other projection resolves it through resolveGranters; this one passes the caller's own userId. Equivalent exactly while the owner fence holds — which is the point of the fence — but it bakes that invariant into a field rather than reading it, so a future widening of the filter would silently misattribute.
  3. The seats fan-out is now unbounded, and that is the price of note 3 above. podIds feeds both the picker and one registry/pods/:podId/agents request per pod. Measured against live data: 4 accounts hold more than 20 pods and the largest holds 119, so that account's Tools page goes from 20 such requests to 119. That route carries no limiter, so it degrades rather than failing, and the picker fix needs the full list. Loading seats for the selected pod and for pods that actually carry grants would keep the fix and drop the fan-out — worth a follow-up row, not a change to this PR.

Walkthrough

The backend adds an authenticated endpoint to list grants for connections owned by the caller. V2ConnectorTools now loads grants through one owner-scoped request and includes all pods.

GATE: HOLD at exact head d2def6b87ca676e4f4f62136e162456fc4e365b5 (supersedes my PASS at c0328215). The rebase retains main's hidden-connections state alongside the owner-grant query, and current main bf0bd593 is an ancestor. One required test fixture did not move with the query.

frontend/src/v2/__tests__/V2ConnectorTools.fold.test.tsx:41,101,132 still mock GET /api/pods/p1/grants. V2ConnectorTools now reads GET /api/grants?connectionOwner=me, so those mock requests reject and load() treats the grant list as empty. At this exact head, the focused frontend run is 130 passed / 3 failed across the Tools, fold, and Connectors page suites. The three failed cases are the fold's ended/live grant counts. Replacing only those three mock URL strings with /api/grants in a throwaway worktree makes the fold suite 4/4 pass; I restored the tree afterward. Please update those three mocks and re-run the suite.

The backend grant-read suite is 25/25 pass on Node 22. Frontend tsc --noEmit passes; backend lint:ts has 0 errors. CI remains queued at filing, so this is not merge clearance. Re-gate the new exact head after the fixture fix.

Correction to my exact-head HOLD review: the three stale mock lines are V2ConnectorTools.fold.test.tsx:40,88,115. The failing behavior and proposed fix are unchanged.

Test the owner-grant read with no pods.

The removed early return makes pods={[]} a new load path. Add a test in frontend/src/v2/__tests__/V2ConnectorTools.test.tsx that returns an owned grant with no current pods and checks that the grant still appears without a per-pod seat request. As per coding guidelines, “New code path ≠ test: flag it. Name the specific test that should exist.”

Bind listed grants to their original connection owner.

Integration.installationId is unique only while its row exists. When a connection is deleted, revokeConnectionGrants revokes but retains its grants. A later connection can reuse that installation ID, so this endpoint can return the retained grant under the new owner and set that owner as grantedBy.

Store an immutable connection-row binding on each grant and use it for this lookup, or exclude grants from the previous connection. Add a deletion-and-reconnection test.

🎯 Functional Correctness | Major | ⚡ Quick win

Do not report a failed grant read as zero grants.

If the owner-grant request fails, this catch makes setGrants store []. The Tools page then shows no existing grants and removes their management controls without telling the owner that the read failed. Handle the load error explicitly. On a refresh failure, retain the previously loaded grants. As per coding guidelines, “Errors propagate with context. Either handle it meaningfully or let it bubble. Never swallow silently.”

GATE: PASS at exact head f92f062381924685efd8726d3c2ab7d6176b5d79, superseding my HOLD at d2def6b8.

The delta is only the three stale URL mocks in V2ConnectorTools.fold.test.tsx:40,88,115, each switched from /api/pods/p1/grants to /api/grants. No production blob changed. Current main bf0bd593 is an ancestor. The exact-head Tools, fold, and Connectors page suites pass 133/133. This matches the independent throwaway fix that turned the held fold suite 4/4 green. The prior exact-head backend grant-read result (25/25 on Node 22), frontend typecheck, and backend lint carry because their blobs are unchanged.

CI is queued at filing. A red check or a code-touching push needs another look.
